Darkest Dungeon is an acclaimed roguelike strategy RPG that's been around for about 10 years, and to mark that milestone, it's about to get some brand new DLC.
Developer Red Hook Studios has announced The Fire's Edge, set to release on PS4 and other platforms on 18th August, 2026.
It's the first new DLC pack for the game in over six years.
First and foremost, the DLC adds two new characters to the mix, namely The Duelist and The Runaway. Those who have played the sequel, Darkest Dungeon 2, may recognise these; they join the roster of the original game and bring with them the Burn mechanic.

As well as these characters, The Fire's Edge introduces three new districts as well as new Trinkets with unique mechanics. The DLC also features "new writing, events, and more surprises to come" according to the press release.
It's pretty cool to see the original Darkest Dungeon get this support as it approaches its 10th anniversary. With the sequel being quite different, I know the first game still has its fans, so I'm sure this will be very welcome news.
Funnily enough, this isn't the only game receiving DLC this late into a its life; The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to get a new expansion in 2027.
Anyway, are you excited about The Fire's Edge? Tell us in the comments section below.

Loving the resurgence for old games getting new DLC.
Sounds fun. I play some of DD1 on Vita. Too bad the Vita version isn't getting this update 😔
I just started playing DD1 for the first time this year and I love it, so I fully welcome new content for it.
I liked Darkest Dungeon, and the overall vibe of it, but the fact that the RNG genuinely seems to be more actively working against you, rather than being more fairly impartial just wore me down too much.
@Swandivetotheasphalt I really appreciate this trend, it breathes new life into games that often are well-beloved.
I played a lot of Darkest Dungeon on the Vita and a little on the PS4 (there were cross saves but I don’t think there was crossbuy). Brutal fun.
I enjoyed Darkest Dungeon a lot, was super ready to finish it, but couldn't get past the penultimate dungeon and got tired of having to start teams and build them up over and over. It's one of the few times I think they needed to patch a game to make it more manageable. I can't remember why it was so difficult, but it was the only part that felt unfair and not my fault for losing. Totally killed the game and essentially the series for me unfortunately. Sometimes after getting to 50+ hours, you just want to finish a title and move on. Putting an incredibly unfair dirty roadblock between the player and the end of a game is not the way.
It’s been some years since I lasted played this, at least 3, so I could be tempted to reinstall it for the new DLC. I should probably play the sequel first though.
I played Darkest Dungeon but its way to brutal for me cool game but not for me.
