If you're the owner of a PS5 Pro (well done for getting it before the price hike), you'll soon have another major game that supports its recently upgraded PSSR tech.
Known by most as PSSR 2, Sony updated the AI upscaling technology on PS5 Pro, and it makes a pretty substantial difference that brings it in line with similar tools found on PC.
In a post on the PS Blog, Ubisoft's Nicolas Lopez announces that Assassin's Creed Shadows, the already visually impressive open world RPG, will officially support the new and improved tech.
Alongside the next game update, support for PSSR 2 is being implemented on 7th April 2026.
Lopez explains the benefits it brings to the game, firstly going over the general improvements it makes to image quality, regardless of which visual mode you're using.
"These benefits apply across all PS5 Pro modes — Performance, Balanced, and Quality — which render at different internal resolutions with Dynamic Resolution Scaling. The new PSSR allows each mode to deliver higher visual fidelity, reducing the trade-offs between performance and image quality. Whether targeting higher frame rates or higher internal resolution, the final image remains sharper and more stable than before."
He also touches on how PSSR 2 is "particularly strong" with regards to dense foliage and other complex effects. Indeed, the below comparison shows a pretty clear jump in quality when looking at the grass:
"Integrating the upgraded PSSR into Assassin’s Creed Shadows was straightforward — the code changes were minimal, almost identical to the original PSSR integration," Lopez says. "Yet the upgrade brings a noticeable improvement in image quality across the board. It’s rare to get such a significant visual boost with so little tuning required."
Will you be testing out Assassin's Creed Shadows with the new PSSR? Tell us in the comments section below.

Now how about Avatar next please Ubi.
This one already looked leagues better on the Pro versus all the other consoles, so improving on that is no mean feat.
I've just started AssCred Unity because of high praise from Push square.
It really is as you say a great game no longer plagued by the problems at its birth. The inside of buildings are so god damn gorgeous.
One of the best looking games I've seen on console. I'm 150 hours in and nowhere close to even finishing the main story.
The only praise of this this game that I've seen was "but it's so gorgeous on PS Pro!" What about, you know, an actual game?
Will it make the gameplay any better though ? I loved most ac games 200 hrs in valhalla, over a 100 in black flag , something didn't sit right with me though with this title , I found it boring the mission structure was confusing , the side content was all exactly the same with no meaningful rewards , I found naoe just miserable with a lack of personality and yasuke bland , all those faces on that select screen you visit and they all have the same outcome,it was just very meh, crimson desert is a better ac game than ac
@Dalamar its a bit poo to be honest
@wildcat_kickz fair play. I always try to do everything in the AC games but there is soooooo much. I had to just stop and finish Valhalla because I was going mental. Think I mostly did Shadows story cause I had other games coming up. Loved it though!
This is great I can't wait to see certain middle distance complex situational stuff like not just foliage resolve better ...on portal; in particular was convinced avatar already delivered somewhat via the toggle and that was before it's recent patch but conversely if that wasn't PSSR2 even better because true potential has even yet to be delivered........
I started again after some time not playing it and upgrading to Ps5 pro and played it in Canon mode. Much better experience imo.
Oh and in immersive mode for authentic language.
@SuperSilverback To be fair, a lot of my time is building the hideout, haha.
Never picked this up last year, another to add to the back log!
@Dalamar The story/writing sucks, which is typical for AC games since Origins. Yasuke is pretty boring to play as, too. But playing as Naoe is awesome - much better character and movement is the best post-Syndicate and maybe even the series.
Night and day difference on the moving foliage. But it's still a good looking game regardless.
This was already a stunning looking game on base PS5. As the proud new owner of a PS5 Pro, I can’t wait to try this out on it.
