Fans of ActRaiser, it’s time to pay attention: Inti Creates has announced an all-new action strategy hybrid named – wait for it – Kingdom’s Return: Time-Eating Fruit and the Ancient Monster.
The main takeaway here is that the game blends city building with side-scrolling combat, drawing comparisons to Square Enix’s aforementioned Super Famicom effort.
Here’s how the press release introduces the concept:

“Kingdom’s Return: Time-Eating Fruit and the Ancient Monster is an action RPG where players must adventure to restore their fallen kingdom. Collect materials in 2D side-scrolling adventure stages, then use them in the strategy part to build your city as you see fit, and powering up your characters in the process!”
You’ll be able to choose from four different characters, each with slightly different gameplay styles: the Imperial favours close-range combat, the Alchemist relies on debuffs, the Wizard prefers to fight from long-distance, and the Zipangu is good at fast, flashy strikes.
The title’s due out on 26th April and at $14.99 it won’t exactly break the bank.
There’ll be a physical edition in Japan, along with a Limited Edition including an art book, CD soundtrack, and key chain. But there’s no word on whether this will release overseas.
This strikes us as a pretty delightful little adventure, and we’ve always enjoyed when city building strategy elements blend with action.
Despite the extremely busy 2026 release schedule, this might be one worth keeping an eye on.
