The World Ends with You's Tatsuya Kando Has Left Square Enix, Promises to Continue to Bring Smiles 1

After an impressive 29-year stint at Square Enix, The World Ends with You director Tatsuya Kando has left the Japanese company.

In addition to creating the aforementioned Nintendo DS game, which received a PS4 sequel in NEO: The World Ends With You, Kando also worked on franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

“This is a personal matter, but as of 31st May, I have left Square Enix,” he wrote on X (or Twitter).

“The support from everyone who played the games has been incredibly encouraging, and it served as a driving force that pushed me forward in development every day. I’m deeply grateful. Thank you so much!

“Going forward, I will continue doing my best to create enjoyable content that brings smiles to everyone’s faces.”

We wouldn’t be massively shocked if Kando established a new studio and set to work on a spiritual successor to The World Ends with You. Either way, it doesn’t sound like he’s done developing games, so it’ll be interesting to see what he comes up with next.
