We weren't previously aware that there was a community interested in sexy Balatro artwork and other assorted erotica, but now we are, and so must you be. A moderator of both the formal Balatro and an unofficial NSFW Balatro subreddit recently changed the flair of the official community, implying that publisher PlayStack condones AI art usage. It most definitely does not.
Localthunk, the mysterious creator of Balatro, doesn't either, and had to step in to settle an AI dispute that recently embroiled both subreddits in one of the stranger internet dramas we've encountered (thanks, Rock Paper Shotgun and Garbage Day). After the mod seemingly went rogue, claiming that AI art was good and its usage was fine in a series of heavily-downvoted posts, the community erupted in anger.
One onlooker lamented: "Is it too much to ask to have a fun subreddit about a fun game that isn't being held hostage by a horny pro-AI weirdo?...that is too much to ask, isn't it." Apparently it is, as the adult in the room, Localthunk, had to put their foot down, banning the moderator, and any and all AI art in the process:
"A mod recently changed the flair in this subreddit for AI generated art making it seem like Playstack condones AI art. Neither Playstack nor I condone AI 'art'. I don't use it in my game, I think it does real harm to artists of all kinds. The actions of this mod do not reflect how Playstack feels or how I feel on the topic. We have removed this moderator from the moderation team."
