SEGA purchased Rovio a little while ago now, so it’s a surprise it’s taken this long for Sonic the Hedgehog and Angry Birds to meet. But as of right now, the two franchises have clashed in five smartphone games, through until 21st March. This includes Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Dream Blast, Angry Birds Friends, Sonic Dash, and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.
Each event is unique and specific to the parent game, but as you’d expect there are rewards for participating and unique unlocks. SEGA is describing this as the “crossover event of the year”, but it’s clearly got its tongue firmly lodged in its cheek. It’ll be interesting to see whether any of Sonic’s console outings add Angry Birds in the future as well.

Sega’s working toward their dream future that their cancelled game Hyenas foreshadowed.
PushSquare really hates Sonic, huh? I think one extra crossover featuring the characters from the games probably couldn't hurt, right?
Finally, I have been patiently waiting for this since never
@BeerIsAwesome I think sega hate sonic too judging by the amount of terrible games the poor little hedgehog has “starred” in!
This headline is funny asf
@BeerIsAwesome
These freaking freaks won't ever be quenched. When will they learn that their actions have consequences!?
I sent at least 3 emails to Sega asking for this.
Headline got me wheezing 😂
We all knew it would happen sooner or later. Can I just get a console port of Sonic Dream Team instead?
Also, I stand by the opinion that the angry bird movies were pretty solid. The first good videogame movies if you ask me👀
A billion dollars well spent, Sega!
angry birds was the ***** when i was in highschool .
@Dodoo Not to be confused with another long-term mascot, who's games are not allowed to be bad, regardless of their quality.
Again with the "no one asked for" stuff. Guys, "demand" and "consent" are pretty different terms.
I thought the crossover was a new "Angry Sonic" game where you shoot Sonic w/ a slingshot and then he bounces around at super speed all over the place, so part Angry Birds, part brick breaker. So this isn't that I'm just going to have to assume it exists already. 🤷♂️
I'll give them credit for doing all 5 games at once, might get people who play a couple of them to try the others. So, no harm done. "Angry Sonic" does need to be a thing though, the cast of Sonic matches up pretty well w/ the different birds I think - Tails, Knuckles, Shadow etc.
SEGA never disappoints when it comes to chasing trends from 10 years ago.
Yeah I agree with the headline, nobody asked for this lol
Didn't SEGA buy the Angry birds IP and developer? This would be why. They are cross advertising their IP.
@BeerIsAwesome @Specky Its not like have any respect for their mascot they dump him in anything.
And i downloaded Angry Birds 2 how to MT in the worst way oh OMG.
@Flaming_Kaiser New to crossover world are ya? Sonic The Hedgehog gets rightfully torn to shreds over this. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go play the critically acclaimed Angry Birds Star Wars game, while eating a bowl of cereal with my lightsaber-shaped spoon. No kidding, I actually used to have one!
@BeerIsAwesome Im just trting to make a point its not like they have much regard for Sonic as mascot nitjing more nothing less.
@Flaming_Kaiser Sorry, that wasn't intended to come off hostile. My point was that if a character's quality was based purely on the number of videogames they have been in, then your record is in fact held by Mario, with over 200 games (19 on the Switch alone, with at least three coming this year). But heaven forbid that any of Mario's bad games ever be considered bad games though.
@BeerIsAwesome If he has a bad game i will be first to say it but the annoying part is he doesnt have that many bad games Mario does he? I think Sonic is a cool character im just disappointed are so easy with what quality games he has. The last 3D game showed that with a lot more Polish the game wouls have been so much better. And no worries we all have things we like and have a special place.
@Flaming_Kaiser
It appears that you're not aware of the freaking freaks kid
@Flaming_Kaiser To be fair, I can't argue that Mario doesn't make too many bad games per se, but that's because Nintendo don't take many risks. My Sonic marathon has been semi-documented in the forums somewhere, and after playing pretty much the entirety of the franchise minus spin-offs, I (admittedly with bias) think that Sonic games get a bad rap more than anything. Time is starting to judge a couple of them in a better light, especially Sonic Unleashed.
With that in mind, it irks me when there's consistent negativity from this site whenever he's mentioned. I remember all the negative articles about Sonic Frontiers, only for the game to turn out actually good, and this site did a 180.
@BeerIsAwesome forces is genuinely bad
Push Square, this is not the first time Sonic has crossed over with Angry Birds. They first meet in Angry Birds Epic and Sonic Run.
@nomither6 Forces is fine. The problem is that Sega tried to insert a war into a kid's game, while still keeping it child friendly...and trying to avoid any comparisons to Ken Penders. That guy completely hamstrung what Sega could do with the character.
It will be interesting to see Sonic in another Castle Crusher rip off...
@BeerIsAwesome I agree that Sonic Frontiers was eventually good bur its a pity Sega didn't push back the release you only get one first impression.
I really dont like patching it eventually approach its a pity that this is the new normal at the release the game shouls be good at the starting point with some small patching polishing it up to be best thing.
And i know that Mario is playing it safe because they know what works and are way more protective od their mascot characters. Again Sonic is not bad they just take way to many risks and cant commit to a formula or better said a path and thats a pity.
If you want a real crime look at the Metal Gear Survive review that got a 8/10 😳
@Specky That can be the case but it does not mean i have to like. Profit as the only thing that big corp looks at is a disaster waiting to happen.
@Flaming_Kaiser "Eventually good" is not necessarily a bad thing, given games like No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk and Rainbow 6 Siege. I think it was probably a more complete game on launch than the above though. But I know what you mean.
Sega's biggest fault is that they listen too much to the wrong aspects of the fanbase regarding Sonic. Though I would argue that most of the recent games had focussed on either speed or platforming, and the franchise is considered to be a little more consistent as of late. They just won't ever get the stink of Sonic 06 and Sonic 4 Ep1 out of their hair.
I will admit the gameplay of Survive is good, but it is basically reusing MGS5, but with zombies. Eh, who am I kidding, it's still not as insane as half of Kojima's ideas!
@BeerIsAwesome I agree with that eventually good isn't always bad but it seems to be the standard now and most of the time its for the wrong reasons and that is a pity.
We all know if thet could have gotten away with how they released Cyberpunk they would have done it. And im going to be real here i will never buy it it was a crime hiw tjet released it. Which they knew upfront and lied about it.
A NMS yeah the game was disappointing to people but it worked and some people really liked it even better they added things and made it so much better over time plus it was a really small studio. With Rainbow 6 i really can't comment on that because i dont know what happened there.
