Three things are inevitable in life: death, taxes, and Geoff Keighley. The Game Awards is the man's big, year-closing video game event, and it of course is coming back to send out 2021 with a glitzy bang.
This year's show will see a full return to a live, in-person event, held as usual at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. Regulations and precautions regarding COVID-19 have yet to be detailed, but we imagine guests and hosts will need to take suitable measures in order to attend. The Game Awards will take place on 9th December, and will be live-streamed so we can all watch along from home.
There aren't any details yet as to the content of Keighley's show, but we do know there will be the usual blend of awards, musical performances, and game trailers and announcements. As you'd expect, the Dorito Pope himself will be slowly unveiling guest appearances, artists, and which games might show up between now and the main event in a couple of months. Nominations for all the awards will also come a little closer to the time.
So, mark your calendars, everyone — The Game Awards is coming. Are you excited to watch? Which game do you think deserves Keighley's Game of the Year trophy? Discuss in the comments section below.

Factions 2? Hogwarts Legacy?
I'm ready to have my heart broken for the billionth time this year
The Muppets are always welcome
"How many Muppets will there be?"
More like "How many ads will there be?"
I’m going to be holding my own game awards on December 9 if anyone is interested, so far my stuffed bear has confirmed he will attend and I’ve contacted my mothers agent and she said she’ll get back to me, so 👍🏻. also Ubisoft will be announcing a new open world game for some reason.
Some of the awards have leaked:
Dorito Flavor of the Year.
Most Anticipated Geoff of 2022.
Best Newcomer into Keighley's Inner Circle.
Favorite Pope Award.
Best Game with Geoff in it Award
The Praising Geoff Keighley's Lifetime Award
Best Clickbait Gaming Website 🤞
@TwomanybuttonS how much are tickets? I can only afford up to $3000. Will there be a backstage pass to the Fight Club room to watch tramps attack each other?
Microsoft theater.😂🤔😳😃.and Microsoft never won a game of the year.wtf.sony and Nintendo won all the time.anyways should be some really good announcements.word up son
@Originut beat me to it 😄
I'd pay top dollar if the Game Awards was hosted by Statler & Waldorf, those two old farts always crack me up.
I wonder if Bluepoint will reveal something at the Game Awards? During the 'Welcome to the Family' video that PlayStation / Bluepoint uploaded, toward the end, they said something along the lines of "We can't wait to reveal more in the coming months", sounds like they could have two projects in the works; something original (New IP OR a Sequel to an existing IP) or a Remake.
i really could care less about this show and all the "rumors" it may bring before it.
I heard they will finally reveal The Tester Season 4!
I generally enjoy watching The Game Awards even though generally speaking most of the stuff I play don't even get nominated it seems like so I'll watch this one too.
It's kind of funny to see this announced as an in-person event a day later after EVO just canceled their event.
Didn't last of us 2 just win game of the year?
Would never waste my time watching Keighley's shill awards but I am glad to see see in person events coming back
@nicc83 No, it won 7 awards:
The only ones it was nominated for but lost were:
@Grumblevolcano just as in recently.
Always good announcements at this event.
There aren’t many games that I would consider GOTY material this year.
Maybe Ratchet and Clank will be GOTY, but my choice is Returnal.
Superb game.
@Korgon Sadly, It's pretty obvious at this point that the evo cancelation was just Sony not wanting to a risk on something they don't really hold that much value in.
@rachetmarvel
Yeah your probably right. It's annoying because I understand Covid is a concern but other sporting events have figured it out. Check for vaccinations, limit attendance, whatever but don't just cancel it outright.
Looking forward to this years show. I have enjoyed the past show and appreciate what Geoff Keighley is doing for Gaming.
I never expect important announcements from The Game Awards so I still enjoy them.
Anyways, thanks for sharing the date!
How many times will you hear…. “Hi Geoff!”
