Following rumours, a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has been announced for PlayStation 5. It is being developed by Aspyr Media, which has been doing work on remasters of various Star Wars titles for the past few years. The extremely quick trailer confirming the news features Darth Revan igniting their lightsaber, and that's pretty much it. No date was attached, but we do know it will be a PS5 console exclusive at launch.
"With Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, our hope is to give both series newcomers and long-term fans an experience that can live alongside the very best modern releases. We’re rebuilding it from the ground up with the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation established by the original, all while staying true to its revered story," said Ryan Treadwell of Aspyr Media on the PlayStation Blog.

Looked like it’s a PS exclusive
This game is probably a really long way off and may be of the minority but the original game is still so good I don't think there is need for a remake, have to wonder if this will still be an actual rpg or more of an action oriented rpg, either way I do love KOTOR so I will keep an eye on it.
Confirmed to be a PS5 console exclusive at launch.
Seems kind of messed up that it’s a PS5 exclusive because it was exclusive to Microsoft back in the day. I think they should have experienced the remake first.
Never played the original and so super excited for this!

First game shown... Remake... 🤦♂️🤣
@SM1FFY01 I have no idea what you are on about. Both Jedi outcast and Jedi Academy were fine ports.
@fR_eeBritney yea bad suss. Bunch of re’s in there
Yes! Yes! Yes! KOTOR Lives!
Never played the original release, but I've always wanted to. Might just wait for this remake now. I've heard great things.
Oooft. Massive news.
@Elodin It never died. It kept going on SWTOR and still is.
@fR_eeBritney start with the light stuff and end big. Why do it the other way around? Not to mention the first game shown is Star Wars.
I am looking forward Knights of the Old Republic.
I still own the original Xbox games.
Definitely excited.
@AhmadSumadi they didn’t show anything though. Some random Sith character opening their lightsaber... ooooo 🙄
Absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. I can't wait.
Crazy considering its a Xbox console exclusive. Very hyped and i may replay KOTOR on Series S to refresh my memory and so i can see how different and how alike the remake is.
This almost guaranteed Microsoft will buy WB. Batman exclusive to Xbox. Wolverine and Spiderman exclusive to PlayStation.
@fR_eeBritney Are you joking? That's no random Sith.
@Jarobusa That's if WB want to sell.
Nice. I will be looking forward to this with orgasmic excitement.
Cannot wait! I put so many hours into the original.
It sounds like it will be on PC at launch. Only console timed exclusive
@Jarobusa Microsoft can’t buy another big game Publisher lol.
@WallyWest never played the original. No idea who that is? 🤷♂️
@fR_eeBritney To SW fans Darth Revan is one of the greatest characters in SW, he's held as high as the likes of Vader, Luke and such. Many people myself included lost are sh*t when he appeared.
@Jarobusa dont think it works like that. If Microsoft did buy WB games, they would get studios like rocksteady and netherealm (and ip like mortal Kombat) as part of the deal - but dont think they would get access to DC properties. They could of course strike a licensing partnership, like Sony has done with Marvel, but thats a different story
@WallyWest Really? I’m quite a big SW fan myself - the movies mostly (well, 1-6 and Rogue One) and the animated stuff, Madalorian etc. - and I’ve honestly never heard of Darth Revan 🤷♂️
I feel like Sony do this a lot though... play on nostalgia. They throw out a short CGI trailer and the fans of the original game go crazy, naturally. But the game is still years away from release (they probably haven’t even started making it - who knows?). They did the same with FF7 Remake. I just imagine the head honchos at Sony HQ a week before the showcase... ‘oh crap, it’s looking a bit light... what beloved classic can we pull out of our ar*e to pad the lineup?’
Hi there fellow gamers.
Now this was a very nice surprise.
My jaw droped when I saw Darth Revan.
KOTOR Remake..... And for the PS5?
Yeah, I know, at launch. But still.... This is HUGE!
Really hope Aspyr Media can deliver.
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming to us all
@fR_eeBritney Well Revan is mostly known for the Expanded Universe side based around The Old Republic, if you don't follow that side of SW you most likely wouldn't know him.
As for the remake well its been wanted for years now especially as the original game really shows its age nowadays. Its been rumoured for ages and i expect Sony's involvement or not it was happening regardless as anything The Old Republic prints money considering how loved that era is in SW. I'm pretty sure Disney are rumoured to be working on something based around that era as well for film or a D+ show.
I can't get excited know the studio behind it. Asypr Media star wars ports haven't been greatest
*is also coming to PC, as confirmed by Lucasfilms
@ArcticSin
"Confirmed to be a PS5 console exclusive at launch."
Key word: Console.
It was nice to actually see a presentation with **GASP** gameplay! Knights and the "Insom" games didn't have any, but the rest did.
Speaking of "Insom"...bargain buy of the century??? One developer that puts out 1/3 of all of Bethesda Studio, yet gets much better reviews.
Hopefully its as good as fallen order
@fR_eeBritney Jezus dude youre really a downer.
@Flaming_Kaiser I am aren’t I haha sorry 🤪
@lacerz "Yet gets better reviews" because the games are way better? 😂😂😂
At first I was thinking of Jedi Fallen Order 2. KOTOR even better!
@fR_eeBritney I guess its my age and im happy quite fast. 😁👍
I'm excited but I temper that with the fact that the Jedi Outcast port was horrible to the point I didn't finish it. They told us KOTOR will be a complete remake so I hold out hope because if they can do it right it could be huge. Such a rich story, great characters and locations.
I loved this game when I was younger, the story was great and the characters were awesome.
Honestly though, I kinda hope we get real-time combat this time around; I tried playing the original not too long ago, and the fights really drag on, especially during the 'bigger' sequences (Sith bases etc.).
I worry they will change too much and it won’t live up to the original. Given the quality of the original it’s almost a certainty.
This game smells of port soon to PC/exclusive for a year. Might need to wait to see the direction.
I've played and finished the originals about 50 times, I play them around 2-3 times per year and I'm super overly excited for this.
I was on the mic with my friends watching the showcase and as soon as I heard Bastilla's voice I screamed "no effing way! KOTOR!" then when I saw Revan I screamed again.
My friends don't get it because they've never played them and don't know how badass Revan is.
@Dpishere they seem to put a focus on modernising it, or so I inferred, so I kinda imagine it being more action rpg like, than the tactical, real time combat of the past games. But could be wrong!
@Akurusu doesn't it make it more fair, if xbox owners can enjoy it still, through backward compatibility, and all the Sony fans who never got to play it finally get a chance?
Well, I know this has been HIGHLY requested by fans and even people like me, who never played the OG rpg games. That's great news.
Love it. I'm basically hoping it's the original game with the following tweaks:
1/ A better economy. The original was horrible when it comes to buying and selling items, and everything was really clunky in a way that was fine at the time but grates when I replay this and its sequel now.
2/ Better combat. It's just another of those areas where there has been much improvement over the past decades since release. I'd like to keep the thing of queuing up different attacks with active pause so you can control the entire squad, but the animations could make the interaction between what people are doing look much nicer, and you could maybe add in combos to add something new to think about tactically.
3/ Movement controls. This is one of the worst things about the original games. It feels like you're driving the characters rather than being them, and they drive like tanks. Really you could take the movement controls of any 3rd person action game from the past decade and it would be a night and day improvement. Swoop racing could be like Wipeout.
4/ Add some new quests, maybe a new planet. Established fans like myself are going to want the story to remain unchanged, but it would be nice for there to be something we haven't experienced before, but preferably optional in case we want a nostalgia run.
@SM1FFY01 didn't they do the HD remaster of Episode 1 Racer? Easiest platinum evarrr. But a faithful port to be sure.
@BuGGy2DaB I'll be honest I was also thinking it had to be Fallen Order 2.
Happy for KOTOR fans...I've never played the original games but willing to give the remake a chance.
