It originally released on the PlayStation 3 and was later ported to the PS4, so given its impressive age you’d probably expect Grand Theft Auto 5 to run at 60 frames-per-second in 4K on the PS5 – but here’s our first hint at the fact. A post about upcoming releases on the German PS Blog – there’s no mention of Horizon Forbidden West, for the record – alludes to the Los Santos skyline “shining in crisp 4K resolution thanks to the bold graphics update” and “extreme smoothness thanks to 60 frames-per-second”.
It’s unclear whether the PS Blog is privy to inside information or is merely making assumptions here, but it’s a reasonable expectation, isn’t it? Assuming it’s accurate, it’ll be the first – to our knowledge – GTA game to run at 60 frames-per-second on console, although GTA 5 can already be played at a higher frame rate on PC, of course. The Expanded & Enhanced re-release is due out on 11th November, and Rockstar has yet to say a single word about it. In the meantime, if you’re looking to get into the title’s multiplayer mode, then check out our GTA Online guide.

Can I have a version of GTA 5 without it being infested with GTA Online?
In order to stay relevant for me and buy it for the 3rd time on PS, I would expect these 3 things:
Breaking news: PS5 is able to run PS3 game at 4K60fps
@TripleKing333 single player only! would save so much storage, gta online is such a bloat for valuable hard drive space!
I have it on PS3 and PS4. I think the only way I'd be interested in it is if it had a VR mode to be completely playable on the PSVR2.
If nothing drastic like that happens - hard pass for me and I guess Rockstar gets the prize on the first game to be crapped out on 3 generations of PS consoles. Bethesda must be jealous.
It's a PS3 game. I would expect nothing less.
@huyi have to assume on the PS5 you can install only the bits you want, or it would be a huge oversight.
Only way i'll get this is (on sale) if - and only if - there is a substantial amount of extra single player story content.
I'd love to get a modern 60 FPS version of San Andreas on consoles it's still my favourite
How much longer can Rockstar milk the heck out of this game? Enough of GTA let's get something new...
@mrtennis1990 they’ll continue to milk it as long as it sells, which is does constantly, and gets in top 10’s every month for sales.
This game won’t die until 2025/26 when we get a new GTA
Wow a ps3 game runs at 4k 60 on ps5. What a shock.
Hmm I played this on the Xbox 360 in 2013.
With additional Singleplayer content, 60 FPS I could image to buy this again… when it’s discounted.
Think I'll hold off until the PS6 version comes out pushing 8K/120fps!
@mrtennis1990 I agree but the problem is despite it being 8 years old it's still sells enough to be in the top ten every week so Rockstar have no incentive to make something new when an old ass game is still selling this much. Gives them an excuse to be lazy
@redd214 exactly
Their fear with GTA 6 would be that it would split their online players between two games probably which increases the chances of either online version having dwindling player populations. Maybe even both. When they have a definite multiplayer version of GTA 6 that will promise to maintain and overtake GTA V online popularity, that is when they will announce GTA 6. Could be wrong, I dunno. They may also be waiting for more people to have next gen consoles so that GTA 6 online has a good playerbase from the get go.
@mrtennis1990 we got RDR2.
Seems like everyone forgets about this game when talking about Rockstar pipeline.
Any word on how extensive a remaster this is? It is a ps3 game after all, 4k 60 on new hardware shouldn't be too crazy
@R1spam
That’s what I’m concerned about. The game needs a serious update to its textures.
To everyone stating it’s a PS3 game, the rumours are that it’s being ported to the updated RAGE engine that was used in RDR2, which is definitely not a PS3 game.
Uhhh YEAH, i would HOPE it can run a ps3 at 4k 60fps lol my lord
It needs a graphical overhaul as well that makes it look like RDR2, because it doesn't matter if it runs at 4K/60fps or 8K/120fps, it's still a PS3/360 game, so it's still ugly no matter how much you increase the resolution.
Unfortunately, a piece of turd at 4K still looks like a piece of turd. I am not saying GTA5 is a piece of turd, but it sures as hell almost look like one graphically now.
Didnt they say quite a while back that it would run at 4k 60fps? I seem to remember some blurb around the time the ps5 was unveiled..i'm pretty sure they also stated it was a free upgrade to those who owned the ps4 copy..i could be wrong but i'm pretty certain this was the case..
If it has nice new textures, 4K 60FPS and an extended campaign then sure, I’ll play it again.
A full remaster like the PS4 version is too much to ask for. But better poly count on entities, better textures, and RDR2 lighting would go a long way. Of course, Rockstar seems to be all about milking GTA Online and it's a miracle they are even porting the single player standalone to PS5. At least 4K 60 FPS will be there with faster loading times, just like on PC...after tost reverse engineered the game to find loading code inefficiencies for security bounty money lol.
Unless it has one of those realism mods that PC players can add then it'll still look last gen, just higher res and smoother.
Don't care all in all, it's old.
Here's hoping that there will be an upgrade or at least a discount for the PS5 and Xbox Series X version.
A free upgrade is much better but if not, I'd be fine with a $15 AUD upgrade.
Big question is .. what will they charge for this overmilked fossil of a game because they have it running at 4K/60 ?
I hope for enhanced campaign map and textures and dual sense support. Yes it’s a PS3 game and then? Go play astrobot or what’s it’s name if you want a new game lol
Have not played that game in like 6 years and have no desire to again ! maybe a gta6 not 5 again ever !
@TripleKing333 What’s wrong with GTA Online?
The PSP had as many standalone GTA games as GTAV has had standalone PS consoles.
People will gladly buy their precious GTA 5 for the 3rd time while giving Control developers hell because they asked for money. People are weird
I hope online gets some more improvements. I’d love to have better parkour maps and maybe a new area
I'm so sick of this game.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy with a patch for this game and call it a day. I feel Rockstar should focus their energy on a new title rather than "remaster" a remaster. I get that shareholders want to milk that GTAO cash cow as much as possible and fully expect Rockstar titles to take years to produce just based on all the detail they pour into their releases, but I don't feel like the studio deserves the level of respect they get with how anti-consumer friendly their developments are.
It's surely got to look a fair bit different (better) and add a decent amount of new content for them to expect people to pay for it again. Be interesting to see what rockstar have done
Lol no thanks. No point buying this when people just leave their character walking around in circles for days on end.
@GigaGaia GTA V still looks stunning, its no Red Dead 2 sure but its aged well and still looks really nice.
@Vincent294 Depends if they ask full price again then it should not be a issue.
Im certain they will ask full price and people wont complain. But if a new IP with risks is released or a totally new game then €70 is a crime without any monetization. 🤣
@Ghostngoblins That one was free so i will gladly do so. Or many many other releases that are something different then a how 2 generation old release.
@nessisonett Are you not the guy who wants everything on gamepass but will buy the same game 3 times.
@Flaming_Kaiser How do I ‘want everything on GamePass’? I subscribe to the service therefore if it’s on there then I’ll play it there. It’s not rocket science.
@Flaming_Kaiser so for you new and free is good. For me good is good.
@Ghostngoblins For me a game not being three times at full is a problem.
I will be waiting for this to be $25 New or cheaper, unless they offer an upgrade path (preferably free).
