Returnal is in a much better spot now than it was at launch, with developer Housemarque pushing out numerous patches to get all the game's issues under control. It's a far more stable experience these days, but one or two problems do persist. Hopefully, patch 1.4.1, released today, will squash these remaining bugs.
Over on the developer's blog, the team has detailed what this new update does, and it looks like it's mainly fixing some straggling issues. The patch fixes a rare issue with save data corruption, some bugs concerning daily challenges, and a visual glitch when scanning items. It also makes it so that certain Trophies will pop after beating Act 3, so if they didn't trigger for you, you can still earn them. Here are the notes in full:
- Platinum: "Atropian Survival", "Welcome Home", and "Sins of the Mother" Trophies can now be unlocked by replaying the Act 3 ending
- Daily Challenge: Fixed a rare issue where players might be unable to complete a Daily Challenge in the Fractured Wastes
- Daily Challenge: Fixed an occasional issue with incorrect loot spawning in the Daily Challenge
- Fixed an issue which could cause save-game corruption in rare circumstances
- Fixed an intermittent visual issue when scanning new items
The patch begins rolling out from 10am BST this morning, so make sure you get it installed before you boot the game up later. Are you still enjoying Returnal on PS5? Have you run into any issues lately? Grapple hook into the comments section below.

Still no exitsave then? Still no buy for me.
Someday in a discount. It won’t make sense for me to buy it full price because it’s absolutely not my genre
I need one more xenocode from the crimson wasteland and one from the scar to get the platinum 👌🏻 My favorite game on ps5 so far
@theheadofabroom Do you think they will implement that knowing if they add it will take away <in a sense> the essence of the game? (serious question)
This game is so hard I can’t even beat the crimson waste lands 😔
@theheadofabroom your loss tbh. Great game
@Qu1n0n3z an exitsave doesn't take anything away. It's the same as putting your console into rest mode, except you don't have to worry about a power cut,a system update, or another person in your house using the console. The point is that it only saves on exit, and deletes that save on resume.
Housemarque have already made a vague promise to look into the issue and that they have 'heard' fans.
@AFCC I look forward to being able to play it, but for now it doesn't fit into my life
@theheadofabroom I guess it would allow players to abuse it by backing up their saves and restoring them on failure - not sure why someone would want to ruin the game for themselves like that but I bet people would (but then again - if they do, it’s on them).
I played this game for 3 hours and finally beat the second boss over the weekend. Then putting my PS5 into rest mode it crashed the system and I lost all progress. Anyone who thinks this game and it’s save situation is adequate needs their head checking or has more time than sense on their hands.
It’s a good game but I have other ***** to do in my life than spend hours on end regularly on one game with no real save feature. If I’d had paid full price for this game I’d be very unhappy as it’s still broken imo.
@Voltan yeah, it strikes me as perverse to say that everyone should get a worse experience so that a tiny handful of people who want to ruin their own single player experience have a harder time doing so.
@theheadofabroom as someone who has played the game, I can tell you that this game doesn't need this mode. I'm a father of 2 young boys and my gaming time is severely reduced compared to yesteryear, yet I've still found time to progress in this game. I think there's been a lot of overreaction to the lack of a save and a lot of misunderstanding on its impact to the quality of the game.
Sometimes there's a lot of frustration, but it's a really fun game.
Superb game. I still hope for a DLC with some more bosses.
@Qu1n0n3z totally agree. Save state should not be added
@imtom2002 It is toughs, but you can do it! It took me 2 and a bit days to get past the Crimson Wastes, but just make sure you run through Biome 1 each time to level up your health / stats / weapons and most importantly, just take your time, play safe.
Im OK with a save-state being added, as long as its a seperate option of the game, where you dont play online, dont earn trophies etc but the game stays at the same difficuilty level. It would def get more people playing and enjoying a pretty cool experience! I've done a complete U turn on my opinion of the game buying it in its more accesible price point this past week,
This is just an awesome game. I would say to anyone on the fence and waiting for a save feature, you can definitely make progress even if you can only play for an hour or two at a time. Yes a save feature would be nice, but it's definitely not necessary.
Save game corruption, eh? Well that’s another kick in the balls after I lost virtually all of my progress yesterday after a crash. Had literally just finished Fractured a wastes and felt so relieved to have done so then an hour or so later everything locked up, the save corrupted and despite trying everything (Yep, even the cloud save) I’m now right back to the Derelict Citadel. Utterly fed up, annoyed and various other things too offensive to post here so I’m putting the game aside, deleting it and playing something else for now. In summary I’m very, very disappointed 😞
To anyone saying save state should not be added, why not? How will it affect you if you can play the game as you have been anyway? How is saving when you quit any different to leaving the console in rest mode anyway? It won’t diminish your time with the game or anyone else’s.
Why be so elitist? Not everyone has the same time available or gaming needs as you.
Love and hate this game in (pretty) equal measure. Still can’t get past the 1st boss. I’m awful with these kind of games, but at least with the likes of Demon’s Souls you can grind to upgrade stats. With Returnal, the random nature means that I struggle to make it through to the boss with anything like a decent setup, so getting past his 3rd wave is too fiddly for my old hands. Shame really as the graphics, sound and atmosphere are awesome. Have bought and loved pretty much all of Housemarque’s games, but this could probably be the last (at least at full price).
@SAMTYLER1974 literally I had the same thing at the weekend, I feel you man 😔
@Fenbops For me I wouldn't be against one being added so more people feel comfortable with the game. Speaking for myself though I didn't really use rest mode to save a run either as usually I needed to "warm up" first before feeling like I was properly in the groove. If I'd have saved and exited and come back to it later I most likely would have died straight away from not being up to speed 😂
@Jayphex You should hop over to the Returnal thread, there's plenty of advice on there and people willing to help give some tips.
Stuck on boss 4, I don't have any energy to (re)play the game again, I think I'm gonna trade this for tales of arise when it launched.
@Steel76 Yup, or at least maybe we get one of those replicator each stages so we only have to replay 1 stage rather than 3 stage.
@render after beating the second boss i would have saved and quit in any other game and had a break but I carried on for another half hour or so until I died, then put the PS5 into rest mode, but like I said it crashed my system and I lost everything I’d just spent 3 hours doing.
If I could have just quit the game and it started me in the 3rd area where Id have left it, like it should have putting it into rest mode what’s the difference? Yeah maybe I’d have died pretty quickly but I’d still have not lost 3 hours progress in one go 😔
@theheadofabroom same, it’s so annoying
@Steel76
You can teleport to the last world you visited.
Once you defeat Phrike the portal to Biome 2 stays open so you can just go straight there.
Biome 3 gets a shortcut from 1 once you get the grapple and Biome 4 becomes the starting point once you get there.
IMHO, putting in a save for potential save scumming would be a mistake as that and a difficultly slider would ruin the edge of your seat risky feeling that each run generates.
Perhaps a compromise like disabled trophies for those who want a lite experience instead?
My PS5 has never crashed in Rest mode btw, and I use it constantly.
@Fenbops
Aren't you supposed to get the grapple once you beat Biome 2 boss, which allows you to shortcut to Biome 3 on the next run?
@theheadofabroom exactly!!! Other Rogue likes have this so why can’t they? It’s ridiculous and they’re just shooting themselves in the foot
@theheadofabroom you’re missing out, dude.
Fair enough - I'm in the middle of a good run in suspend mode though, so I hope that my PS5 doesn't update the app without my say-so. I think I've turned all that off in the settings.
@Fenbops this game and it’s save system is adequate and there’s nothing wrong with my head, thanks. Got the platinum after an awesome 88 hours of fantastic gameplay.
@Fenbops I had a few crashes and lost some progress when my save got corrupted so totally feel your pain on that. The game was just so fun to play for me that I brushed it off and carried on but I understand not everyone might feel that way.
It would be good if it was an option and there if you wanted to use it.
I'll also get it if it gets a save mode. Worked fine for souls series. I get the reasons why people are against save feature but if some people want to ruin premium priced games with save scumming exploits, then that's their loss. Anything can happen while gaming and I know I would hate to lose a few hours progress because of something more important than games. Plenty of great games to play that don't have this save issue so I ain't missing out on anything.
@AgentGuapo Congrats on the plat!! I must have played around 100 hours to get it but find a reason to play even now. I'd be over the moon if they dropped some DLC for this though.
@Futureshark yeah I did get the grapple, but the game crashed my system and I lost all progress I made in that 3 hour playthrough. The only save available started me again without the grapple.
@AgentGuapo Good for you I don’t care.
@Fenbops
Ah I see, that would be a massive bummer.
Well done for getting past Biome 2 anyway though.
@render it’s a good game I enjoy it, is a shame this happened as it’s completely killed any feeling I have of wanting to continue. I only get limited time to game of an evening or weekends so losing that 3 hours was pretty soul destroying.
adding save option = give my money to you
@Fenbops Yeah this is one of the reasons why I won't bother getting this game if no save option. That or if some real life issue forces me to stop playing. If I lose progress from lack of skill, fine. But I ain't interested in losing progress because I need to take a sudden flight for an emergency or something.
@CynicalGamer I tell you how far people will go to ruin a premium priced game... I saw one person say they'd bought the game digitally and then couldn't get past the 1st boss so then went and bought a physical copy as well so that they could run version 1.0 which had the dev cheats enabled.
@Fenbops I can appreciate that. It can be gutting to lose progress, especially if it was hard won like in this game.
@CynicalGamer dying and starting from the beginning over and over I’m fine with, that’s the game. When you die you know why usually and learn. It’s pretty hard but rewarding. I’d wait for a save feature or patches eliminating the crashes before recommending this game to anyone as it stands now.
@Render Heh I feel like that's paying more for less fun but I guess but it's their wallet haha so if that's their idea of fun...oh well.
@Fenbops exactly dying from lack of skill is a learning curve and stimulating. Crashes and real life factors however mean this ain't for me without save option.
@theheadofabroom You know what I missundertood your comment and you are totally right, hopefully they add it in the near future until now I put the game on hold tbh.
People making an issue of the lack of an exit save clearly weren't alive back when being able to save your game didn't even exist at all.
@Jayphex I struggled with the first boss too but I kept at it. Keep going you'll get there eventually.
@Feena Nearly there then 😊, I still need a few more things to drop, but currently taking a break from it, as I was getting frustrated with it. But definitely going to get the platinum for it. Currently playing last of us again then 2 again so after those going back to it or might do a few runs in between. Hope you get the platinum soon. It's probably the best ps5 game so far for me and I'm not massive into these types of games but it looked good and had nothing to play so gave it a go so glad I did.
@Steel76 Don't play Returnal then if you feel this way and let the rest of us enjoy it. Getting tired of people whinging and you do know if you could save the game would lose most of its identity.
Nothing wrong with giving feeeback on why we aren't buying the game. I am smart enough to know I don't have the skill to make progress with this game given the save constraints unlike most games where I can stop whenever I want. People are giving reasons for why they don't want the save feature and that's fine. It's also fine to say why we want save feature. Happy for those who enjoy it.
@Fenbops My comment was not against having a save feature but I was interested that people who hadn't played the game (not you as I see you've played it) were commentating that it was stopping them buying the game. I just think the lack of save is being blown out of proportion and it's not as important as it sounds. I am time poor; I'd say I'm a half decent gamer and I enjoy challenging games. I don't think a save game being implemented is going to improve your chances. As somebody else mentioned, there's a "getting warmed up" feel to this game so any extended breaks would mean you not doing so well. For me it has a similar difficulty level to Sekiro, if you don't like games of that difficulty then I'd say it's fair enough to skip it but the save game feature isn't a "must have" for this game.
There is an absolutely devastating bug I landed on last night that I hope gets patched out at some point. If you die at the abyssal scar mini boss and get reconstructed, the door behind the mini boss can glitch and will not open. It’s really disheartening starting another run after something like that. My complaint about Returnal is that runs are too long IMO, and for 2+ hours of grinding to get wiped by a bug… oof.
@Qu1n0n3z Considering litterally every other roguelike ever released have that feature, no it wouldn't take anything away from the game. It isn't even about difficulty, it's about respecting people's time.
@riccyb0y By the time time I got my last ending for Sekiro, all bosses were easy mode. Yet if Sekiro did not have a save feature, I likely would have taken far longer to finish it. I'm also not a fan of leaving consoles on in rest mode for personal reasons I won't get into. I do get what you mean by warming up though.
I actually played a few hours on my friends machine to test it out and didn't find it that overwhelming other the lack of a save feature that given my schedule (and not liking rest mode) is not feasible if I'm to play all the other games I want to play.
@RubyCarbuncle We're not playing Returnal. We're just explaining that while we would like to experience what everyone else is raving about, this is the reason why we're not paying £70 for a game we know we'll be unable to get the most out of.
I don't resent the opinions of anyone who's enjoying it in the slightest, so why do you resent the opinions of those who cannot?
@AgentGuapo I know, that's why I wish they'd add the damn save feature
@theheadofabroom I don't resent anything I do however resent people coming here complaining about the same thing over and over. We get it you want a means to save we get it. Complain to the Developer not Push Square.
@theheadofabroom to be fair to the game's design, by the time you are familiar with the gameplay, you run through the entire thing in 2-3 hours. I get the hesitation, but if you're interested in the game, the no save feature is not a real issue. Its designed to be an Arcade experience. You have a new weapon, a new layout, new perks etc...every run. You level up through weapons, items, and knowledge of the world/enemies. Perhaps if there were more levels a save feature would be warranted, but it's really just 3 worlds to master, then you're at the midway point which is an automatic "save".
I'm loving the game. I've been stuck on Biome 3 for ages now, but still I'm pulled in for another run, hoping for some good drops. If I don't get good drops I'm building up ether collections and keys at least.
@Daleaf completely agree 👌🏻 Hope you get lucky with the drops too!
@RubyCarbuncle Should the cyberpunk complainers have just stopped complaining here and only complained to dev? Pushsquare is perfect for personal complaints on games and they have reach as a media outlet vs a mere tweet on a Dev Twitter page. They even have polls on whether you think certain factors will affect your purchase of a game.
I know plenty of skilled hardcore gamers that haven't bought this game. You never know, maybe a Returnal sequel with save feature will sell way better? Maybe even Returnal will sell better? Opinions keep the developers informed on their games.
@Fenbops I get where your coming from but if you dont have time then the game isn't for you. Games dont have to adapt to your schedule because it was built in mind for people who can dedicate. Putting a save state may be a simple fix but can also be abused which in turn will make the game lose its challenging nature. Your best bet it to just watch a playthrough if you dont have the time or just forget about it and move onto the next thing.
I have limited play time (1 or 2 hours a day) and I'm not particularly good at this type of game (I bailed on Demon's Souls as it just irritated me), but even I've beaten Returnal a few times now. I still play it regularly. It's fun. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you're missing out if the idea of the difficulty is putting you off playing it. It just takes practice. I regularly play for hours at a time now before a death (often putting the system in rest mode during my runs).
I had one instance of a lost save due to a power outage while collecting the sunface fragments, but it was my fault. I have a battery backup for my entertainment center and I should have just shut the game and system down properly so that it would save, but I forgot to. Battery ran out, and there went the day's progress.
No biggie though as I was able to collect them again the following day.
@TomDobo so what though if people abuse it? If they wanna cheese it who cares like what difference does it make to you and your game?
With a save state I’d play the same but instead of putting the PS5 in rest mode I’d just quit and save then go back to it, it’s the exact same. I could even play a couple of other games without worrying about losing progress quitting the app. I don’t understand why people are against it? Because more people may cheese and finish it maybe and you’ll somehow feel less of an accomplishment? I don’t know but at the end of the day no one cares.
@Fenbops @Fenbops Yeah I mean might as well as have no pc games becanes mods and hacks. I keep hearing things about identity, how lack over save feature is overrated (basically git gud statements), dedication, save scumming, etc. Yet games like the soulsborne games do perfectly fine with an exit save feature.
I love the way people on this website gang up on someone when they don't agree and to the guy asking about the Cyberpunk complainers yes they should have complained to the dev. Fat lot of use repeating the same thing over and over on here did.
I stand by what I said.
@Fenbops Because its against the developers vision. If people start cheesing then the butthurt people stuck on the first biome will start exploiting it. Simply put the game isn't for you and not every game is going to adapt to your lifestyle.
@TomDobo Exactly well said.
@TomDobo the game isn’t for me? I’ve gotten to the 3rd biome with limited gaming time I don’t think you get to say who this game is for.
If it’s the developers vision they should make sure their game works as intended.
Again so what if they do? How does it affect your game and playthrough? Why do you care what other players are doing. Let people enjoy it however they like.
@Fenbops Doesn't effect me in the slightest. I just see people crying about this all the time and its getting old now. The developers made the game the way it is to be challenging and if you haven't got time for it then its not for you. I dont get to say who its for really but people who are moaning for a save feature clearly shouldnt buy this game as their lifestyle dont allow it.
Also i dont care if people cheese it but the developers do hence why the feature hasn't been added. They want to keep it challenging and dont want it being exploited.
@TomDobo you shouldn’t have to leave any game in rest mode to continue it. It’s a stupid idea in the first place even if that’s their ‘vision’.
No save update? This is insane. How are they looking into it? They've had over a month to fix this and they haven't. I've been loving this game, but this is just insane. I think they've been lazy on it. Otherwise they should have explained how they managed to code themselves into a corner like idiots.
@TomDobo and how has this exitsave affected Dark Souls? FromSofware is the king of making hard games and they have had this feature for ages. This isn't a vision. This is called interfering with your life and social gaming life. It doesn't make the game challenging in the slightest. It just makes it very inconvenient to play. If it hasn't been an issue with Souls, it's a non-issue here, plain and simple. This has already been thoroughly disproven against Housemarque here.
@RubyCarbuncle I mentioned Cyberpunk because I remember you posting multiple times on that topic in multiple articles. This is the only article I brought this up. It is not ganging up. Might as well call half the posters on this website gankers with that logic yourself included. I think there is more butt hurt over people wanting the save feature than the other way round.
@Fenbops. The fact that you reached the third biome renders his statement irrelevant regarding challenge been the problem. Honestly I think the Devs did this by design to make this game "harder" and longer. Also why is it when someone's opinion is different they are crying and yet I bet it if it is the others opinion is not crying.
Enjoy the game game and defend it. Fine by me. Or maybe you want your opinion on a preferred change to be heard, then by all means say it. Got a problem with either, you're the butthurt one lol.
@Jaz007 Dark Souls isnt a roguelike game so that is irrelevant. If its getting in the way of your life style dont play it simple as. The developers have made their choice so you're just going to have to deal with it and play something thats suits you.
@CynicalGamer Yeah I posted I didn't complain, big difference there lad. Saying I'm going to wait for the PS5 version is hardly a complaint.
What even is butt hurt? when you hurt your butt? what?
@Feena cheers, just did a run this afternoon and I only now need to more 2 drop for the platinum 😊. Might give it another run tonight or tomorrow and finally get the plat after a LOT of hours into it.
@Omnistalgic Bold assumption that everyone has 2-3 hours free When I was younger and had fewer commitments I likely would have been one of the people arguing against the save feature for similar reasons, but I also had a bunch of free time and wouldn't have understood where they were coming from (even though I could clearly do the math).
Fact is there are many people out there for which the inability to save means that they simply cannot play the game because it is incompatible with their life. I'm one of those people - I get 1-2 hours tops to play games in a day and I'm not the only person who uses the PS5, so even the already unreliable rest mode option wouldn't help (funnily enough something like Quick Resume would help mitigate that but I don't completely trust that feature either, it has the same limitations to rest mode but it can at least store multiple game states).
Also when people say we're missing out - trust me, we know it. I'm very jealous of anyone who has the ability to play this as it looks excellent.
@RubyCarbuncle By that logic I'm not complaining either since I'm waiting for if it gets a save feature hence my encouragement of a save feature. They did mention they were working on something so maybe it will come of enough people demand it on sites like this. Easy to twist definitions of words to suit a narrative I guess.
Besides the comment I recall was you talking about people lying if they said their cyberpunk playthroughs had no issues. So again a case of you having issues with people having different opinions and wanting them to stop making "tiring" comments.
Hopefully myself and others will make some tiny difference even to games lacking exit saves. It takes like 20 seconds to type here. If no save feature, that's fine and I'll be happy for those who prefer no save feature.
Also I'd edit the "confusing" word but you already know what I mean. Glad for those that enjoyed the game. I'll keep to other games while frequently giving my opinions wherever I feel like it. Maybe one day I will play it, but with a save feature. Or perhaps a sequel to Returnal with a save feature. Change can be good or bad depending on perspective. To me any game with exit save is am outdated concept of that worked better with shorter games. You clearly disagree and that's fine. But when you reply to people who have a different opinion, they are going to engage
in a debate/discussion with you because you are challenging their opinion on a public site. If people engage in toxic ways then that's a problem though.
Happy gaming!
Sorry for the long comment above lol. Didn't realise how much I typed until I posted it. Cheers.
Still no save patch ????? This is absolutely rubbish ..its a very very difficult game ..this makes no sense
@Shuks8 The difficulty and lack of save feature are unrelated, for the most part people that want a save feature simply want it so that they can stop and resume the game whenever they want. They don't want it so that they can return to the save point and retry if they die. Adding a save feature should have no impact on the difficulty, although admittedly it would be exploitable to anyone who wants to cheat the system. But for most of us wanting this feature - we still want permadeath, we just don't want it to be caused by factors external to the game itself.
@RubyCarbuncle actually I honestly think my last comically long post is a tad bit condescendingly written. Maybe I let that cyberpunk part get to me too much. My opinion stands but, I could have written that better. I'll keep it there as my wall of shame.
@Reeneman Not my genre either, but the game is amazing, although frustrating as hell, but seriously addictive.
@CynicalGamer No no it's fine. Perhaps I overreacted here and for that I apologise for being rude somewhat. I guess I can understand the frustration of people not being able to save, especially if they've made good progress in a run only for that winning streak to come to an abrupt end forcing the player to start all over again.
Still avoiding this game until they address the exit save situation...hopefully it'll be dirt cheap by then.
@DNASTY I definitely will give it a try!
@TomDobo They’re both based off Death having consequences. You see Souls games have as frustrating or more frustrating deaths than Returnal. You see, the design philosophy has been done already. Also, plenty of Rogulikes that feel harsher have an exit save. You’ve the lost the comparable game argument here.
And what’s my life style? Not someone with no life and with no friends? That’s the life style you lean towards in that argument and I’m not going to insult housemarque by saying that is their audience. There is no reasonable life style this style suits with very possibly causing a problem eventually.
This design decision has nothing to do with difficulty. In fact, if soemethkng spawns after you die, and you went to stop because that’s supposed to be a good point, you lose it. For no reason at all. It’s against the game design at that point that quoting means you don’t see the developers intended consequences.
And how would making this change make the game easier for you? It’s about difficulty, so tell me how it’ll be an easier game for you.
@RubyCarbuncle People here are butthurt that this awful save system doesn’t make them a more hardcore gamer so they project it onto people that don’t want a objectively bad design decision. I think it’s a really weird pride thing how honestly.
@Jaz007 Haven't lost nothing to be honest. I have a great lifestyle which suits me and allows me to make a good amount of money whilst seeing friends and having a social life and enough time for games. Dark Souls and Returnal are nothing alike and this conversation has became pointless now. So either enjoy the game (its great by the way) or move along to the next thing.
I'd love to know what people are doing on these 3 hour runs? I've just looted biome 1 and 2 in an hour. Biome 3 will take 30 mins + boss (unless i get robbed). After 3 it starts again from 4-6, so you only ever have to go through 3 biomes at a time.
What are you p*ssing about at for 3-4 hours?
Edit: it's not a flex (too old for that). I'm just wondering if you've found the sprint button yet?
Pretty sad that they still haven't "figured out" a way to put in a save feature. That's the only way I'll ever consider playing this, so like others have said, no save feature no sale.
@Futureshark I think there's some confusion here about what people are asking for with regards to saving. There likely are some people who want to be able to save the game and reload it if they die, but that isn't what most people are asking for. The feature that people are asking for that the devs are trying to deliver is the ability to save the game and quit immediately after so that they can either update the game or their console, or switch to a different game or turn off their console. Being able to save and reload the save after dying violates the game's premise, but being able to take save the game so you can turn off the console or update it without losing your place is not unreasonable. If and/or when the developers implement it, you will not be able to save scum.
@Reeneman - Can't you use Google?
@marty8370 I’ve heard of it, this is one of this online services isn’t it?
@TomDobo You completely ignored the base design similarity, or let’s push that aside, how most Roguelikes have an exist save. You really don’t have a comparable game to justify this with. You ignored because there is no good answer. There’s a reason all other games, same genre or not, have exit saves now. And yeah, I can play Returnal too, doesn’t mean it doesn’t make me play longer than when I want or have to be way too careful about when I do. It’s not about time for gaming. It’s about it not I helpful for any life style.
You ignored everything but life style and dark souls. Which is half or more of the post. This hasn’t been pointless at all. You just ignored most of my points is all while I addressed all of yours.
@Loftimus Add in boss 2 and first time on biome 3. Got all the way to boss 3 to die when it had less than 10% health left. Trying again won’t take that long, but it can get to that much if you make enough progress in one run like I did. It’s not common, just the possibility.
@Jaz007 thats fair enough, but once you get used to the biomes and know what you are doing, the need for a save disappears, as three biomes can easily be done in under two hours.
@Loftimus 2 hours is still a long time if I feel like another game or if a half hour someone calls me and wants to play a MP game.
@Jaz007 yeah multiplayer is not for me anymore. I just beat the 4th boss on my first try though so, ive still got it.
I really want to play this game but I know I can't until something changes about the saves. My daughter likes playing our PS5 as well, so I can't always leave a game running in the background. Something like Quick Resume on Xbox would alleviate this problem, but PS5 doesn't have that. If this game doesn't create a solution for the problem I just mentioned, I can't play this game, which is a shame.
@Jaz007 Glad to see that you did end up getting the game, despite concerns about the lack of save and all. It really does need to be experienced by all who have a PS5 and appreciate the care that went into the game. The haptics, the triggers, the 3D sound, the smooth visuals… it’s fabulous.
You’ve actually made good progress and are up to the point I’m at currently — that is, trying to beat the third boss. Last night I put in a 4 hour run where I cleared nearly all of biomes 1-3 to get myself ‘leveled up’, so to speak, for the boss, including investing in a reconstructor. Still failed to beat him. But yeah — that was 4 hours in the making and I don’t always have that time. Yet, part of me knows the run wasn’t a complete waste; I learned some moves and boss patterns, i banked a little ether, I made some good progress on weapon traits, and collected some scout logs and ciphers.
But yes — officially I would like a ‘quit and save’ feature for when you’ve got a good run going and life calls your attention away. However, I also see the point that over time the runs do tend to become quicker and less time consuming due to the fast travel / shortcut options the game gives fairly liberally. But I’m not a good enough gamer to skip the biomes and try to beat the bosses with low level weapons and base health, so I have to spend time grinding.
Anyways, so I’d definitely like a save option, but I also still enjoy the game immensely. I just wish I had a less unpredictable schedule. C’est las vie.
Besides the save issue, how are you finding the game?
Amazing game. Slighty challenging and no game saves. Perfect, need more games like this.
@theheadofabroom makes sense
@Voltan there has been tons of games that allows save on exit and destroys saves on resume. This isn’t a hard concept. Rougelike shave had these options for decades, strategy games as well like advanced wars. It only allows you to take a break and do something else with your console. Period. You resume the game, and that save file is obliterated. So you do not have the option of save scumming.
People should have multi ways to play, and adding this feature takes nothing away from all of the “purist” “hardcore players” I would love to get this game but as a Middle aged dad with a family and obligations I have a very limited amount of time I can spend on a screen at one time, despite this game being on my radar. So it’s more a question do they want my money, and we should want this talented studio to get all the money they can get to make more games right?
@Magnus178
There’s no way to prevent this or I can’t think of one. But like I said, I’m sure most wouldn’t do this and those who do only ruin it for themselves, so I’m not against it.
@Voltan I hope I didn’t come off as harsh.
I agree, I don’t think most people would go through the trouble of doing all of that.
This could be handled by:
Developer not supporting cloud saves.
At any rate, hopefully they add in this feature soon as I look forward to playing it and I landed on this article beacuse I searched to see if they implemented it as I am just waiting to purchase it.
I hope they do it so I can enjoy the experience and support the studio.
@render thanks! Have given up on this and gone back to No Man’s Sky for a break. Will try again in few weeks time.
