Following its surprise confirmation for both of Sony's current consoles, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will release on 28th October 2021. The new overview trailer embedded above announces the date and provides a fairly detailed look at what the horror title from Koei Tecmo has to offer. It touches on the spooky story of the 2014 Wii U title and how the experience has been enhanced for the modern era. That includes a Photo Mode, which makes a lot of sense since the main tool in the game is indeed a camera.
Available digitally through the PS Store, the upgraded PS5 and PS4 versions also contain new costumes and accessories inspired by previous entries in the horror series. If you're looking for even more content, a Digital Deluxe Edition will be available. Then if you pre-order ahead of time or buy the game within the first two weeks of launch, you'll get another skin based on Ryza from the Atelier Ryza franchise.
"Players will step into the shoes of Yuri Kozukata, Ren Hojo, and Miu Hinasaki as they venture up the eerie Mt. Hikami in hopes of finding those who have previously disappeared. In order to overcome the malevolent spirits housed in the mountain’s waters, they will have to master the Camera Obscura – a unique camera that can deal damage to ghosts upon taking a photo. Each successful shot will cause a spirit to emit Spirit Fragments and if players are able to capture an image of the ghost and these mysterious fragments in the same frame, they will unleash a high-damage Fatal Frame attack."
We're looking forward to getting our hands on Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water in time for Halloween, but will you be joining us? Work on your photography skills in the comments below.

Real sadboi hours cause there seems to be no physical version. TT_TT
Maybe LRG or something will jump on this, but I doubt it.
So no physical copy? Would buy a Collector's Edition in a heartbeat. Hopefully this does well enough to convince Koei to resurrect the franchise.
No physical on the Wii U in NA was bad enough, but still no physical version now? C'mon!
Well, I'll get it regardless, but I'll be really disappointed if this game is just permanently digital only in NA.
No physical release in NA again? I wanted this game on Wii U years ago but it wasn't released physically here in the states. If it's digital only then that's very disappointing. I was going to double dip and buy a copy for Switch & PS5 but now I'll wait...
I wonder what the price will be.
@DTfeartheBEARD @Ralizah @WCB @Andr0idLife I've read there's a physical copy in Japan, but you'd obviously have to import that. It is indeed just a digital release everywhere else.
@LiamCroft Welp, looks like I'm importing a copy for the collection! Preciate the heads up!
This being released in Europe too right??
@Keyblade-Dan Digitally it is, yes.
@LiamCroft Thank god thanks for informing me I'm literally checking the PS Store every five minutes to see if the pre-order is available. If you couldn't tell I'm quite a big fan of this series 😅
A Ryza outfit is incredible inclusion, however physical please.
I am slightly confused: unless Play Asia are showing these products wrong, there appears to be physical copies of PS4 and Switch on the horizon, for Asia, US and EU regions. The European version even gets our localised name of Project Zero

@LiamCroft Maybe the physical Japanese Switch version will support english text, and I can just get that.
@AndyKazama INTERESTING. Good find.
I hope that turns out to be true. This REALLY needs a normal physical release outside of Japan.
@Ralizah you're welcome I checked because I heard that Japan was getting physical, and that play asia is currently doing free shipping in July (so get it while you can kinda deal.)
Fingers crossed. I won't be surprised to see physical here limited and sold exclusively through the European site (which I hate because the delivery company sucks.)
Do we know what the price will be for this game?
Is this game good?
Cuz I'm not shure about Wii-U stuff etc.
I skipped this on Wii U but now I’m kinda interested in this. Wasn’t there a Zero Suit Samus costume as well? I take it that won’t be on the PS versions.
@Blacksmith1985
It's a decent horror game. Spooked me a bit.
@shonenjump86 they added that a Zelda costume as it took out the swimsuit unlockables, that appear to be back in some form for this ver.
We won't be seeing those Nintendo costumes.
No physical edition means I'll pass on it. Too bad, was looking forward to play a Project Zero again.
@AndyKazama ah, appreciate that.
Glsd to see the Ayane chapter will be included
So i will have to beg at LRG to get a physical copy come on guys ill pay the extra cash for my physical copy.
It's time to get the first 3 games ported!
@AndyKazama PlayAsia removed the US and Euro physical releases so looks like the only way to get a disc now is to import the Asia release.
@Flaming_Kaiser Or just import one from Japan or Asia. I wouldn't hold my breath for this one from LRG. They tried last time for Wii U and it never worked. Hard to see why that would change now.
@doctorwho19 Yeah, saw that Might order today or tomorrow as it's free shipping until end of July.
@LiamCroft I've never played a Fatal Frame game before, is there an overarching story/narrative between games?
Or can I just jump straight into this one and not be confused?
@KidBoruto This will be my first time playing the series too, so I’m afraid I don’t know!
@doctorwho19 Just put down a preorder. 🤪
@Athrum Playasia has one japanese release with english. 😁
@LiamCroft No worries, thanks for the fast & honest answer!
