Ubisoft has confirmed that the next big patch for Assassin's Creed Valhalla will launch next week, on the 27th July (Tuesday). This update has been expected since it was spotted on Sony's servers just a few days ago, but it's still nice to have official confirmation.
So what's going to be included in this patch? Well, the developer has already teased one handed swords as a new weapon type, one of which will supposedly be made available with the game's next title update, which, we assume, is this newly announced patch.
Ubisoft hasn't made the inclusion of one handed swords official just yet, but it has confirmed that a new level scaling option will be added in this update. Level scaling lets you increase the difficulty of Valhalla's combat by beefing up your opponents to varying degrees. It'll offer five settings: Default, Off, Constant, Harder, and Nightmarish. Sounds like it'll be a welcome addition for those who crave a deadlier challenge.
We imagine that Ubisoft will share more details in the very near future, with patch notes probably dropping just before or alongside the update itself.

Level scaling is worse than pointless in RPGs for me. If you can level your character, then enemies scaling to this should not exist. If it does you are not levelling your character (relative to the opposition) and the whole thing is just a massive sleight of hand. Just make it an action game with no enemy scaling or character levelling in this case. Elder Scrolls games after Morrowind were ruined by this.
Still, at least they give an option of turning it off. Choices are always good. Do you want rubber banding in a racer? Yes or no? Do you want enemy scaling in an RPG, yes or no?
THANK GOD level scaling is an option. I am MAX power and levels and I would be in so much trouble. I love being a dual wielding spear GOD. Also, I adore this game so much and after 250+ hours still can't get enough.
Na... one of the best satisfaction in RPGs for me is when I come back to a location after leveling up (upgrading) and wipe the floor with everything that killed me a few days earlier.
One shot me?... F@%rs, I'll be back 😅
I hope that "Off" in level scaling means that opponents in very low areas will be one hit dead... and I also hope for "Off" on opponents respawn in future patch. It is pretty annoying if you kill 1000 enemies and castle is still full of life...
Leveling scaling means they haven't balanced the game properly to keep it engaging and challenging while progressing through the game and allowing the character to become more powerful.
I expect it's a lot more difficult to do proper balance in an open world game compared to a more traditionally linear RPG, since the player can do things "out of order" and thus be too powerful for some content.

What’s the point? If the game makes “Barry” level as I do the whole thing becomes pointless and neither of us need to level. It’s like devs have decided levelling gives us all a dopamine hit, so it has to be included in every game. In the past there were action games without a pointless levelling system, or (J)RPGs where you would grow to become a god if you wished or deliberately gate yourself for more of a challenge. Games these days have gotten themselves in a mess of unnecessary “levelling” and enemy “counter-levelling”, lol.
@Goopyspaff
Was that really necessary? It’s perfectly possible to have a conversation, a debate even, without reverting to the childishness of insults.
I dislike level scaling in rpgs. It ruins "the im getting stronger" storyline. However, having it as an option to adjust is brilliant. So for those that want it is there.

I couldnt agree more with you. The concept is working against most of the main game mechanics, it makes zero sense.
Im not surprised though, theyve taken anything that was once fine about this game series and created a mish mash of worst in class combat with hugely long boring story.
They really didnt need to take this series to persistant online world to lose my interest, I was unlikely to ever bite again anyway after Vallhalla, a game I feel like Ive wasted my 90+hours in. I spent 100s of hours enjoying previous games, but all good things come to an end and this series has become a boring cash grab.
I guess at least offering more challanging modes might extend the experience for hardened players, but for the rest if us it simply demonstrates it diesnt know what kind of game it wants to be.
@Salt_AU
What has any of that got to do with enemy scaling? Difficulty is not depending on enemy scaling. You can have a rock hard difficulty without it. In fact, the way it’s often done these days, with both upscaling and downscaling, it means that games are easier. In the past going to an area with enemies of a much higher level than you to try to rob some high level or valuable loot, knowing you could be one hit killed, was a thrill (such as in Morrowind). These days, devs try to scale enemies so you can explore the maps more freely and easily.
@Salt_AU
Who’s talking about not being able to beat a game or button mashing? These are totally unrelated to enemy scaling and not mentioned by anyone else.
When are new game plus and The Siege of Paris coming, though?
