Update: It would appear as though the next big update for Assassin's Creed Valhalla will launch next week. The patch has been spotted on Sony's servers by the reliable PlayStation Game Size, and that usually means that the update will be available to download the following week.
Ubisoft will also be preparing full patch notes, which will probably be published just before the patch drops. As for what's going to be included, the developer has already teased the arrival of one handed swords as a new weapon type, and we wouldn't be surprised if the update lays the foundations for Siege of Paris — Valhalla's second expansion.
Original Story: Ever since its release, Assassin's Creed Valhalla players have been asking for one handed swords to be added to the game. For whatever reason, the weapon type didn't make the cut, despite being a mainstay Viking weapon throughout Norse history. if you want to wield a sword, you've got no choice but to equip a two-hander in Valhalla.
Fortunately, a few months back, Ubisoft confirmed that one handed swords were going to be added to the game, but ever since the launch of Wrath of the Druids — Valhalla's first expansion — and then the Mastery Challenges update, the developer has been pretty quiet.
It sounds like a new title update is coming soon, however, and it'll likely include one handed swords. Finally!
The official Assassin's Creed Twitter account posted a teasing tweet about the oft-requested armament arriving with the next patch.
So when is this update actually dropping? Well, we know that previous patches have been discovered on Sony's servers about one week in advance, so it could be happening as early as next week. And if the official account is teasing an update, we would assume that it's coming very soon.
What's more, Valhalla's second expansion, Siege of Paris, is supposedly still set to release this summer. We wouldn't be surprised if this next update paves the way for additional information on that upcoming DLC.

As someone who hasn't played an AC game since Origins... this seems really stupid to not have day one.
@MFTWrecks it is stupid
A headline a few weeks from now: "Using a One-Handed Sword from AC Valhalla Corrupts Save Data".
Adore Valhalla and it keeps sucking me back in with each update. Currently have close to 225+ hours logged. My build for Eivor is Dual-Wield Spears and it is fantastic.
Ok I guess... Waiting for Siege of Paris to play everything at once. And get lost in the world again.
@jmac1686 Right?! the bang for the buck in general has been crazy.
Happy to pay for DLC if it is like this. I got my money worth in entertainment value and then some at this point.
@RBMango Please don't joke about this lmao
@MFTWrecks seeing how 2 handed swords weren't invented until 600ish years after the game is supposed to be taking place it's really dumb.
The fact a game that prides itself on having an "authentic" backdrop took a year to add something historically accurate when they had unrealistic items is just silly.
Like having an M16 during WW1and then bragging that they're giving you a Springfield.
Not adding a one handed sword in a viking rpg is like not adding a claymore in a medieval rpg.
Oh thank goodness AC is fixing the historically inaccurate swords in the game and we can get back to our historically accurate holo-projection vaults in Renaissance Italy!
I was really trying to hold out to play the game on the PS5, but since I might not be able to get one for another year at least, I decided to go ahead and play on the PS4.
I was really shocked at the limitations of the weapons compared to the last few games. Especially no one handed swords. The 2-H weapons are all really difficult and I gave up on them pretty quickly.
The lack of high end equipment with special features overall has been a bummer.
I hope the season pass is included in the upcoming sale. I have already played Valhalla for well over 100 hours and yet I am itching for more.
Valhalla still have plenty of bugs to this day. Some of which have been around for the last 6 months, but that's Ubisoft for ya. Guess I am used to it now 'cause I am still coming back to their games dammit!
