First teased just a couple of weeks back, Monark is a turn based Japanese RPG that's coming to both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in early 2022. Here in the West, it's being published by NIS America.
One of the big talking points surrounding Monark is that developers who previously worked on the Shin Megami Tensei series are involved, which perhaps explains the nightmarish, demon-infested world that you'll be fighting through.
The official description gives us a brief overview: "Follow your ego and control the madness in Monark! Your school has been engulfed in a mysterious and deadly Mist, and only you can save everyone inside. Develop your Ego and lead your forces into battle to break the pacts set by the nefarious Pactbearers, but take care not to delve too far, lest you risk losing yourself."
Could be interesting, but is Monark now on your radar? Raise an army of fiends in the comments section below.

Well that song will be in my head all afternoon!
I love JRPGs, but this isn't doing anything for me. I hope it does well though!
Graphics and animations really remind me of SMT3, Persona 3 and Persona 4 which isn't necessarily a bad thing but also not a good thing
It looks great but does look very very derivative and dare I say it, a little generic? It could be brilliant though so I’ll just have to wait and see.
Certainly on my radar! I do want to hear more about how the combat works as from the 1st glance at the trailer it looks sort of like a Fire Emblem game. I like Persona and Fire Emblem and I plan to start SMT Nocturne as soon as I finish Mass Effect. So yeah I'm interested to hear more!
Oof, that looks rough. Really hope that's Switch handheld footage.
The trailer is a bit confusing, too. It says the battle system has "free movement," but it looks like a turn-based system on a grid, like the first two Persona games.
@nessisonett First time I've heard the words "great," "derivative," and "generic" being applied to the same thing in the same sentence. I don't disagree that it looks generic, though. It very much fits the "budget JRPG" mold, and, from this trailer, is indistinguishable from a million bargain bin JRPGs already on the PS4.
Combat looks rough tbh. And the character designs aren't exactly the most interesting, but I'm still a little intrigued. I like that they were inspired by smt if, hopefully the story turns out more interesting
@Ralizah Games can still be ‘good’ while being pretty generic! Just Cause 2 and Watch Dogs 2 definitely fit that brief. JRPGs are harder to find fun in the generic ones though due to the time commitment.
I am not excited about this game at all and I have absolutely no doubt that I'll end up playing it.
This looks terribly bland but hey this team has my total trust
The game looks good but I do wonder will games being made for the Nintendo switch aswell hold back anime games reaching their full potential on playstation due to making it for the Nintendo switch hardware.
I think I saw the name "furyu" so I'm a little be wary (because, you know, Caligula effect (not bad, but disappointing)) so... I'll wait and see!
This could be great, I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. The Ego system with the combat sounds like a fun twist.
I like persona games more than shin megami tensei series, the game looks a bit rough.
It looks interesting but man that was an edgy trailer lol.
Hmm it's giving me Calligula effect vibes, which didn't impress me.
Not interested. But will keep an eye out to see if i missed anything when reviews come out.
@Rob_230 Was just about to say I dig the song morr! How was your Peppa Pig World trip btw? I went yesterday and apparently my son grew 2 cm so I had to buy him a ticket. When we got in he seemed bored on all the Peppa Pig World rides and I thought that since they made me buy him a ticket then I might as well take him on a bigger ride in the rest of the park then (I had to say he is 7 months older than he is, though). Thought he might be alright on the first one if I held his hand and I'd just take him on the one... Turns out he was braver than me and laughed the whole way around Stormchaser, Velociraptor and Flight of the Pterosaur whilst I was yelling. XD I seem to have a little adrenaline junkie. Haha
