In case you've been living under a rock, The Last of Us is being adapted by HBO into a TV series. Co-written by Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann alongside Craig Mazin, the series is still a ways off, but we're slowly getting more info on the cast. We have our Joel and Ellie with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, and Gabriel Luna is set to play Tommy.
These will all be new faces and voices compared to the game, but one performer is being brought back. Merle Dandridge, who played the role of Fireflies leader Marlene in the Naughty Dog title, has been re-cast as the character in the TV adaptation. The actor will reprise her character from the game, this time providing a live action performance.
We have to wonder if any other actors will return to The Last of Us for the adaptation. Either way, the cast is shaping up rather nicely — we're certainly excited to watch this when it's ready. There's still no date attached to the project, but hopefully it's not too far down the road.

This will probably get some people wondering why they didn't do the same for Joel and Ellie, though Ellie wouldn't work due to aging. Troy Baker could've worked, I guess, but they need the star power for the lead.
@Orpheus79V I’m not sure Troy has the right look for Joel - his voice work is amazing though (and this is irrelevant anyway, for reasons you mentioned).
Awesome, can't wait for this show!
@Voltan Agreed, Troy has too much of a California dude look to portray a gruff Texan. Though Pedro Pascal is nowhere near what I would have picked either.
I Wonder If They Will Get Tesses And Bills Voice Actors to Reprise Their Roles?
@mucc @Voltan It would be cool if Troy and Ashley got roles as different characters though. Maybe a cameo in Tommy's settlement, would be a fun little treat for fans.
Now can we get the alternate ending of her singing that we deserve.
@Orpheus79V Troy has repeatedly gone on recording saying he doesn’t want to play Joel in live action, his wish for the character is to see a new interpretation, and I think he’s being genuine and not just excusing the casting. As for Ellie’s actress I would assume she feels the same way.
Hope we get the musical ending that was cut from the original
They need to include her quote that you hear in the intro. "You can still rise with us.When you're lost in the dark look for the light, believe in the Fireflies"
I always get taken back by that.
Can’t believe Marlene isn’t Danny DeVito.
@Voltan Troy definitely doesn't have the right look for Joel. He has some amusing anecdotes about this and how he turned up to the first TLOU casting wearing a loud shirt and electric white hair and seemingly embodied everything that Joel wasn't, initially putting casters on the backfoot. He then had a bigger job to bring them round through his performance.
Great news, hoping others will also return!
@mucc Fun fact: Troy is actually from Texas. I don't believe he moved to California until he was an adult and wanted to pursue acting.
