Retro platformer Alex Kidd is getting the remake treatment, and we now know when to expect his arrival. Announced last year, Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is a reimagining of the SEGA classic, with a complete overhaul to the visuals while keeping the level structure and gameplay much the same.
More than that, it's set to feature brand new stages, a boss rush mode, and the ability to play with the original visuals, if you're into that. So, when can we expect to be playing it? With the above new trailer, Miracle World DX is confirmed for release on 24th June 2021 — on PlayStation 4 and PS5. Yes, it's getting a PS5 version too. Who'd have thought Alex Kidd would be getting a new game on the latest consoles?
Anyway, are you excited for his return? Tell us in the comments section below.

Everyone who had this this game built into their Master System may get nostalgic for this! I think the original is a great game, though Alex is tricky to control on small platforms and the random chance boss encounters annoyed me back in the day. I still have the nice M2 version on PS3 where I finally beat the game after many years. Will pick this one up too I think. Certainly preferable to his Megadrive game.
If your Master System cart wasn't properly inserted for whatever reason, Alex Kidd would boot up with that intro music, which also plays if you select the game icon on the PS3 XMB.
This was my first ever video game. Was built into my master system when I was about 6. I managed to beat it on the PS3 a few years back but I’ll definitely play it again. Day one purchase for me.
Internet: "One of SEGA's mascots is getting a new game!"
Me: "Eeeeeeee!!"
Internet: "It's not Sonic."
Me:
Never played but it looks like a great update, along the lines of Wonderboy: The Dragon's Trap, which was excellent.
Sega when they were good.
Sega genesis alex kidd and the enchanted 🏰 castle was a good game.still got it on my Sega genesis classics collection.this looks fun will definitely try it out.word up son
@RudeAnimat0r I didn't like Dragon's Trap all that much but The Cursed Kingdom was excellent.
This one looks cool
First console game I ever completed if memory serves..
I'd love a collection... Alex kidd in shinobi world was pretty good too..
@playstation1995 I'd say this Master System game is better than Enchanted Castle, even with the smaller sprites. Certainly worth a look if you've not played it before. Shinobi World, as mentioned above, is also a really fun Master System game, if a bit easier than this one!
@Voltan Cursed Kingdom was very good too. I think I preferred Dragon's Trap because the job Lizard Cube did updating the art was just incredible. I think it's one of the best looking 2D games I've ever played. I also liked that it was a reskin - it was really interesting playing a game that old but seeing how ahead of its time a lot of the actual design was. Can't imagine playing that when I was a child screwing around with my Atari.
@Voltan The cursed kingdom was awesome, hope they make a sequel.
The game looks good, I'm interested in this
I remember playing the original as a kidd and I absolutelly loved it. I played it again on the ps3 a few years back and its still incredibly charming.
Loved playing these games on the Sega Master System when I was a kid.
I think this game is my earliest gaming memory, had it preinstalled on our Master System, I remember my big bro calling our cousin to find out how to beat those damn paper scissor stone guys. Can't wait to see how this is
wonder boy - dragon's trap and monster boy - cursed kingdom were amazing re-imaginings. this new alex kidd game will likely be no different. sega has been doing a good job selecting great developers to revive these old franchises. why has capcom not taken a similar approach with its old IP?
@Ristar24. I dont know about master system.sega genesis is where its at.word up son
I have fond memories of playing this on my Master System, so will defo pick this up at some point. Really enjoyed Wonder Boy The Dragons Trap but have yet to play Monster Boy. There is a new game coming out in the series - Wonder Boy – Asha in Monster World. Looking forward to see how that one turns out.
Those games of roshambo, though 😂
Still, vividly remember coming onto this from C64 - good memories.
@playstation1995 honestly, overall I had more fun with my Master System as a kid than my Mega Drive.
@playstation1995 Yeah, I guess the Master System was not well know in the US at the time as the NES seemed to be the popular 8-bit system. There are some great games on there though, I tend to play them on the Megadrive / Genesis these days, as I have a Power Base Converter.
@kyleforrester87. What was your favorite game.but sega genesis was more fun to me.streets of rage was when i was like ok its over.what was your favorite master system games.word up son
@Ristar24. I did had a master system.i like it.but i like Sega genesis more.rambo 3.truxton.super hang on.contra hard corpse.streets of rage is where its at.word up son
@playstation1995 Mega Drive obviously had better games (Sonic 1 & 2 and Streets of Rage 1 & 2 are legendary) but personally games like Terminator, Road Rash, Sensible Soccer, Sonic Chaos, Chase HQ, Chuck Rock 2 and Desert Strike are games I played the hell out of on MS so I just have great memories of the system. I know most (all) of those games were on Mega Drive too, and better on that console, but by the time I got a Mega Drive the PS1 was almost out and I spent a lot of my time with that console looking forward to 3D gaming.
Plus coming from having to load games on C64 to instant loading on cartridges was a real next gen wow moment.
@kyleforrester87. The reason why i love sega genesis more is everything.sounds and graphics.but sega master system was a good machine. I got to give sega respect for that.wonder boy and alex kid was amazing.mickey mose also.shinobi.word up son
@kyleforrester87. Why is sony taking all that time to aquire bluepoint games.come on sony.and i been with PlayStation since day 1 in September 1995 in new york city.i dont know why sony is doing this closing the ps3 and vita psp.theyre wrong for that .but i think sony got a plan they will put it on psn somehow.word up son
@RudeAnimat0r I want Lizard Cube to re-skin every classic game dear to my heart—Turtles in Time, SFIII, etc. to infinity. Dragon’s Trap was beautifully done.
@playstation1995 Streets of Rage is legendary, first time I saw (and heard) that game, I knew I wanted a Megadrive / Genesis!
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle was my first console game on my Japanese Sega Megadrive I bought in December 1989.
I’m definitely interested in this one👍
@Buckychop_Fandom lol let's not get ahead of ourselves! Love me Lizard Cube, with Dragon's Trap and Streets of Rage 4 under their belt, they have a lot of my goodwill. With that said, not sure I ever want SFIII reskinned it is perfection.
@Ristar24. I agree streets of rage is why i respect sony so much.best sega franchise to me.word up son
Why do they use these terrible graphics when making these classic platform games .Ghost and goblins etc .😔
lol my younger bro had this on the master system. i was still slugging it out with rambo to the dizzy games on the c64. i miss the 80s lol il snag this game.
thanks for the info guys. i wonder if the select button will put this back to the eay it looked. yes i still call em start and select i never grasped the change options and share!? never stuck with me ( had to pick up a ps4 joypad to me ake sure that was what they were called) lol
Pre-Ordered for £23 in the UK
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (SMS) was one of my earliest games... I did not have a SMS but I went to my neighbor and we played hell out of that game!
I remember those non-killable monks!
what is the benefit of making a pixel 2D game for the PS5? Oh i get it...it will surely utilize native 4k@60fps, adaptive triggers and 3D audio...
