It's been an age since we first played through Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne on the PlayStation 2, but this new story trailer for the HD Remaster has stirred our nostalgia for the cult classic JRPG. With the revival due out on the 25th May, it's time to start thinking about all of those lovely demons that you'll be bending to your will.
The press release introduces Nocturne's story quite well: "What begins as a normal day in Tokyo turns out to be everything but, when the Conception – an ethereal apocalypse – is invoked. The remains of the world are swallowed by chaos, as a demonic revolution descends into a broken city. Caught between a battle of gods and demons, the choices you make can bring life, rebirth, or death, and determine who triumphs."
As you'd expect of Shin Megami Tensei and the Persona series, a lot of interesting themes and ideas are explored throughout Nocturne's narrative. We're certainly looking forward to seeing how it all holds up in this remaster.

SMT3 I still think is outclassed by Digital Devil Saga, Persona 2 and the first Devil Survivor game but it's still one of my favorite RPGs ever made. Love the atmosphere and sense of dread the game provides
It also has probably one of the best Shoji Meguro soundtracks for any game he's composed if you're a fan of his work on Persona
Probably the second best SMT game I've played after IV: Apocalypse. Really excited to revisit this classic.
And yeah, the horror-tinged atmosphere in this is awesome.
@TheFrenchiestFry Agreed, the classic Meguro guitar is glorious in this game. Digital Devil Saga too!
Very excited for this, as I never got to play it during it's original release. SMT IV: Apocalypse was amazing, and I don't doubt this one either. This will be perfect setup for SMT V coming out later this year (hopefully)
Can't wait to try this. But also does this have a defense stat? I feel like smt4 is super reliant on rng
It's more annoying than difficult when you get randomly one shotted here and there. Still I've been enjoying my time with it a lot
This will be a fine appetizer for the full course meal that will be SMT V.
I was looking forward to this, but it costs a lot more than I was expecting.
@Judal27 A little tip for SMT IV, max out your magic stat and the game becomes laughably easy.
Super pumped!
Also, it might be a stupid question, but is demon days some kind of idiom?
Cause I've heard/seen it here and there multiple times over the internet but I don't understand what it means, and if I look it up I only find Gorillaz-related stuff.
At first I thought it was their thing, but then I found other references in other songs, movies, etc. so I can't really wrap my head around it.
Sensational game. 🥰 I have a veritable mountain of MegaTen games to play but am so getting this. May's a good month!
Good game back in the day.
But sandwiched between RE: Village and R&C: Rift Apart. Hard for me to care about remakes when tons of new games out at the same time.
@HeeHo thanks I'll definitely do that for the other endings since i actually put a lot of my points towards dex already lol
But tbh the game isn't really hard, at least atm
@Judal27 Glad to help!
The only really hard part is the first 10 or so hours but after that its fine pretty much till the end.
@TheFrenchiestFry Having recently played and finished Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 I wholeheartedly agree.
@TheFrenchiestFry Which was the one with Dante in it i loved that one.
@Agramonte This is a fantastic game though and its €40 i think.
@Flaming_Kaiser This is the one with Dante
@TheFrenchiestFry Great i loved this one. 😉👍
Another trailer getting me excited again, even though I still plan to wait for a $20 sale in a year or two.
Hope this performs well enough for them to also remake/remaster SMT 1-2 and 4.
@Flaming_Kaiser yeah, it is a great game. It is $50 here.
But I have it on my GameFly rental list. So more I rather play new stuff. Maybe during the slow summer release I’ll check it out.
But hey, the more options the better. If a good mix of new and remake everyone wins and we all have something to play 👍
@Agramonte There are quite a few old games i never completely finished i would kill for a Dark Cloud combopack with a updated visuals and a some small tweaks too the gameplay.
