For the first time in almost a year, Sony has updated the new releases segment of the PlayStation Store on the PS Vita. For those of you who haven’t touched the forgotten format in a while, you may not know that the ‘Latest’ section has been abandoned for 10 months, meaning although new software has been deploying on the device, it hasn’t displayed in the appropriate tab.
However, fans noticed overnight that in the UK – and some other parts of the world, like Japan, Australia, and New Zealand – the new releases now actually show as they’re supposed to. We’ve been able to corroborate the tidbit on our console, and while there are still issues like broken profile icons, it does appear to be accurate as of the current date. Whether upcoming games like Habroxia 2 will also be added remains to be seen.
While we appreciate that the PS Vita is a legacy system these days, it’s always been bizarre that Sony failed to do the bare minimum for the handful of developers still supporting the system. This, at the very least, helps the hardware’s remaining active users to see what’s new on the unit, which can only be a good thing, right?

Great! Now work on getting sales displayed on PS5.
Now fix the rest of the vita store!
@HollowSpectre No chance. I'm surprised they even did this!
Maintaining the vita store cannot be more work, than what an IT trainee could do in max 2-4 hours a week. I can’t fathom that Sony does not have the inclination and finances to provide this bare minimum to their customers.
I’m not really sure why sections like this wouldn’t be automated? Sony decisions are often baffling.
Thanks Sony I guess!! Too bad they basically never do discounts on the poor old Vita store anymore.
@get2sammyb I can dream! 😉
ps vita? what's that
@MrSensical - You're right, I bought The Nonary Games on Vita 3 months back, and it's still full price (AUS: $70), while I can buy it on PS4 for half that price (Maybe even cheaper), same goes for Persona 3 Portable, but it's (AUS: $50), not as bad, but still a bit much.
ITS STILL ALIVE
Long live the Vita!
The state of the Vita shop and lack of discounts is why I just use my PS1 and PSP backups and have a Vita physical collection!
I hope Sony will release a new PlayStation handheld system.
I will start with 😮.
It’s also a good point regarding the store on PS5. I had a look on there the other day to see the deals currently available on PS4. I soon realised that this was pointless and fired up the Pro.
Are we going to see backwards compatible games sidelined and less updates to the PS4 catalogue on the store, much like the Vita, in the future?
It is a shame that Sony treats its back catalogue in this way. I see all those broken icons on the Vita store and it feels like legacy devices are absolutely neglected, despite still being owned, still being used and still being popular among many players.
Remember the PS vita store actually had sales? Those were the days. I got persona 4 golden for about £6. Also remember getting the likes of Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway for quite cheap.
Someone pressed the wrong 'Update' button by mistake - the Vita got updated and broke the PS5 store... Oh wait the webstore has always been broken!
@Vacuumator The Vita was a victim of the PS4's runaway success, Sony pulling support for the fledgling handheld to support the 4. It deserved better as did its supporters.
As for the PS4 support, I'd say it's still got another 3 years left of actual support. Lets face it, the 4's native store blows the garbage webstore out of the water.
Shame the handheld prices have shot up to what it was priced at when it launched
@MemSec Well, the Vita was discontinued about 2 years ago, and it wasn't successful, so I do kind of understand why they aren't upkeeping it. I understand why people are quite annoyed with it, but nothing I can do.
Introducing the new Playstation Necro Vitae
@Incognito_D yep good times in gaming those. Loved my vita back then!
I've noticed that you can't see new add-ons on the PS4 anymore for some reason
Now if only The House Of Fata Morgana would go on sale......
@ObeseChihuahua2
Although production of it was discontinued, Sony still provides online services and a store where you can purchase software. I think it’s the bare minimum, to at least upload recent games to the appropriate sections of your storefront. I’m not expecting a redesign, or anything, just a proper cataloguing of stuff which you could until now only find by directly searching for it. Interestingly the only attention Sony gave the Vita in recent years was the occasional update solely designed to combat piracy. Can’t imagine why this would be a priority if they have “given up” on the system... 🤦
Brings a nostalgic tear to my eye.
I wish they would still have sales for the Vita
Thank goodness, but maybe a bit late there. There’s been several titles I didn’t know even came out until I heard about them somewhere else and then had to manually search for them on the vita store. Sony really showed how much they cared about the system. I should be getting Punch Line in the mail soon, which I also just found out that it came out and I’ve been a fan of Uchikoshi and Vita for a long time. First time I looked for digital I couldn’t find it, but I got a deal on the physical, so that works out.
@MemSec Oh, okay. That makes sense. Thx.
We in the dark timeline where corona is still rampant and Vita never dies.
I mean check some of those limited physical sellers still showing love to it.
I just got back into my Vita this month, been slowly picking up some games I missed on the storefront. Really great hardware all around, so sad to see that it never really had it's time to shine.
I really want another Sony handheld, it could help them take Japan again assuming nothing of it is proprietary and it can play PS5 or minimum PS4 level games.
Well be really nice to have a new handheld but considering Sony can barely make demand for ps5, I'd say if a new handheld comes it will be almost ps6🤣🤣
Of course it's a good thing, seeing as the PSS overhaul technically made it impossible to buy the games in question elsewhere. If a Vita game doesn't show up on the console Store now, it may be as good as unreleased.🙄
@Juanalf that sounds like the memetic "Switch Pro". PS4 level is one thing due to its broad definition (Switch is capable of running quite a few games also on PS4, and not just indies at that), but the likes of Horizon seem to be a task for a Gen 10 portable console at earliest.
What my wishful thinking paints at times instead is a sort of "PlayStation Legacy" console - a souped-up version of Vita with additional buttons, full support for - and consequently more digital releases for -Vita/PSP/PS1, added first party ports from PS2, PS3 and even PS4 (I'm sure the proportionally higher but realistic specs would be enough to handle Gravity Rush 2, for one), maybe even a TV out or a dock to approach s portion of Switch's trademark appeal... alas, it's a pipe dream for the next couple years at least. Sony is still in the mood to put all their eggs into the home console basket, and despite all their region importance comments, it can feel like they'd rather lose Japan than go portable again right now. And since they won't be losing Japan per se (like I said before, I fully expect PS5 to alternate between trickles and occasional RPG-themed spikes over there just like PS4 did), there's not much incentive to discuss.
Hope for new handheld with ps4 remoteplay.
**EXTRA! EXTRA! SONY BRIEFLY REMEMBERS VITA EXISTS!**
I wish they'd start doing actual sales again too.
@RawnDawn I wish they also would for the PS3 store as well
There is also a PlayStation plus sale (Undertale) on the PS Vita Store now. And I got some more themes to tryout. And I can finally see games I already bought as download only and not marked as buy.
