Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is well into its first season now, but developer Treyarch’s keeping things fresh with a mid-season update on 14th January. Starting next week you’ll be able to enjoy a new Fireteam map named Sanatorium, which is described as a “Soviet experimental health retreat”. The blurb explains: “Low wooded hills provide cover for fireteam squads to gain reconnaissance over the main, roughly circular-shaped main ‘hotel’: a concrete, brutalist architectural behemoth flanked by lakeside structures and a large wooden dock.”
The new map will be flanked by a fresh six-versus-six mode called Drop Kick, which sounds a little like a variant of Hot Potato. “The round begins with each team racing to the location of the nuclear briefcase and attempting to pick it up,” the overview says. “Anyone grabbing the briefcase is automatically equipped with a powerful pistol, but it’s ideally up to the rest of the team to keep the briefcase-carrier safe. The team with the case gains access to launch codes, as well as an ever-increasing score for their team.”
One interesting wrinkle in Drop Kick is that if you’re playing as the briefcase carrier and you’re killed, you won’t respawn until your carrier has been eliminated and the McGuffin has been dropped.
Meanwhile, those of you who play Zombies can look forward to a new mode named Cranked, which will see you self-combust if you go too long without bringing down the undead. And Raid will be added to Onslaught as a PlayStation exclusive extra. The developer stresses that this isn’t the full extent of the update, with more to come, although it’s yet to provide any additional intel on what to expect.

we getting any new campaign missions? of course not -_-
Game needs a new Zombies map, one is unacceptable.
@Papasears well that was not the case in any COD. So why now ? COD is "shortcampaigny" then multiculti.
I'm loving Zombies this time around for the first time since Blackops 3, so it'll be interesting to try out Cranked in this mode for sure
Just got my diamond camo for the assault rifles last night. Now onto the SMG'S.
Game does need freshening up though.
they need to fix the multiplayer on PS5 first, before adding more stuff to it. it's been unplayable since the season 1 update before christmas
@leucocyte What kind of issues are you encountering? It's played fine for me on PS5 for the past month.
@KonkeyDong64 - severe hitching and stuttering issues. its in multiplayer only.. such as running into a building, only to go back about 10 frames and be back outside in the street. i see somebody, go to ADS and they completely disappear in front of me. get killed and the kill cam makes it look as if i've frozen.. i've seen it on other players, who likely are on PS5.. they go to shoot and me and then don't and look frozen for a few frames - long enough to notice and get an easy advantage.

i don't have the cross-gen version to fall back on, i have only the PS5 version on disk. supposedly a fix was released on 26th december, but it's still happening for me. i tried disabling ray-tracing, enabling performance mode, turned off crossplay, etc. didn't make any difference. i haven't tried since before new year, but prior to the season 1 update, the game ran very smoothly.
We seriously need a new Zombies map. Like, come on. It's definitely the best it's ever been, but we need a new one already.
If the new sanitarium map has a 6vs6 mode does that mean it will show up in the normal multiplayer maps as well ?
I hate fireteam and think it'd be cool if they took chunks from those large maps to use in normal multiplayer as it could really use more maps
@ORO_ERICIUS yea sucks, i haven't enjoyed CoD multiplayer since pre Ghost. After that it went to ***** IMO.
