Following the game's most recent delay to the 10th December, speculation over the state of Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles has been rampant. Even CD Projekt Red itself has said that current-gen console polish was the main reason for the aforementioned delay.
And in a bid to help answer some of the questions about how the title runs on console, the developer has released around ten minutes of gameplay footage taken from Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. Essentially, this is what Cyberpunk 2077 will look like running on PS4 and PS5 — or thereabouts.
Honestly, it looks pretty good. Some visual aspects have certainly been toned down compared to what we've seen of the game previously — when it was clearly running on a high end PC — but at first glance, it's still very pretty. It seems to hold up especially well on the Xbox Series X — we barely noticed any pop-in as a car was driven through the streets of Night City. Hopefully it's the same on PS5.
It should be noted that a full PS5 upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch at some point in 2021. Until then, PS5 players will have to make do with playing the PS4 version through backwards compatibility — but they should still see improvements to frame rate and load times.
How do you think Cyberpunk 2077 looks on console? Did you expect better? Worse? Stick it to the man in the comments section below.

Wow, it still looks great.
hmmm... they're still only showing one X and series x though; not willing to show what it's like on the base machines!
This game feels like GTA without people. Looks very pretty though.
Hrm, to wait for ps5 patch or no?
Well, it's XBox One X, not the old XBox One, so I wouldn't count on that it looks like that on the base PS4
Worth noting that this isn't just Xbox One gameplay, it's Xbox One X which is still much more powerful than the base PS4 (about 4 times the power) and a decent bit more powerful than the PS4 Pro, so we still have yet to see how it runs on the base consoles of PS4 and Xbox One (the ones that it had "issues" performing on)
For comparison, for games that were 1080p60 on the One were 4K60 on the One X, and if it was 1080p30 on the One it would be 1080p60 or 4k30 on the One X, so a pretty hefty difference.
Amazing..........just drop on the 10th Dec and I am ok........................meanwhile one ponders to Thursday Night bombshells.
@Mega-Gazz Wait imo. The ambition on display outstrips what can be delivered on 'last gen' (can we say that now?) hardware
One X - stuttering framerate... Series X - very nice even without the nextgen upgrade. Hopefully we will get full #Dualsense support!
The more I see of this game the less I really want to play it. It seems like it’s just overly sexual and gross to be “shocking and edgy.”
@Mega-Gazz I will and would wait.
I was looking forward for base ps4 gameplay because that would have a difference between one x
Looks incredible even on the One X!
I’m playing this DAY 1 on PC full ray tracing yada yada yada
After that I’ll pick it up on sale for PS5
Looks worse than I expected! Far less dense and populated as well. Let's just hope it feels different in game.
Looks the same to me. I literally couldn't tell and when I saw the corner it changed, I was surprised. Might be worth getting it on ps4 if this "next gen" patch is raytracing with 5% better textures
Loving the whole atmosphere and sounds of Night City. My base PS4 is ready for this.
@jmac1686 I got the same impression from your comment.
Umm it looks ok i guess......
This seems far less populated with NPCs than I expected it to be
Don’t know what everyone else is seeing- nothing in that video looks next gen. Driving, the facial animations, gunplay - all seem outdated. The NPC’s just stand in place.
Yeah i can wait for the PS5 upgrade. I'm hoping it adds some extra tidbits
@Cowboyfromhll69 me too
@daveofduncan I should be allowed to have an opinion if I find the game gross
@Cowboyfromhll69 pretty empty
Just to get this straight, the Series X gameplay is just the One X version running on the Series X, right? Because the ''next gen patch'' is still 2021?
Dec 10th! My BIRTHDAY!!
hey so whats the deal with ps5 upgrade???
If i buy the DIGITAL version for ps4 can i upgrade later??
Feel a bit betrayed with Hollie pushing Xbox lol
A lot of objects are popping in even on the series X version. Looks good, waiting for reviews to see how it will play out.
Ok just watched it and am now not sure im even going to bother buying it... Its... A walking sim lol, its just an empty city and empty buildings!!
Omg.. What happened?!
I was INSANELY excited for this but this reeeally puts a huge dent in wanting to explore this "vast living breathing world"...
Im feeling a bit crushed honestly
Looks nice. But this is a PC buy for me.
Glad it is on as many hardware as possible. Every Videogame fan should have access to it in one form or another.
@Medic_Alert So we should expect a similar improvement going from PS4 to PS5.
Night City is pretty derelict aye? Max like 10 people on screen at once lmao
This game looks as sexy as hell 😍
I rather see a lower resolution with way more people its dissapointing and the FPS immersion im not feeling it.
Looked fine to me, I mean there was pop in etc when they showed it running on pc. Sure certain things have been toned down from what he have seen before, but what were people expecting? I'll be there on the 10th playing on my PS5 and I'm still looking forward to it.
Looks like Covid-19 is still a thing in 2077.
Night City is clearly under curfew...
@GamingFiend
The X runs settings in most games very very similarly to the original Xbox One, just at 4k and maybe a slightly higher frame rate. So I can infer that the PS4 base version will look similar to the X, just at 1080 p
@HMazzy111
Have you ever lived in a city? That's about how dense most streets are at night.
@PegasusActual93 Perhaps in our current time. But with how they have portrayed the universe of Cyberpunk and everything they have said about the city, I'm disappointed with how it looks. Playing the game may change my mind though and I hope it does.
@Octane thats what I wanna know....THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST MADE THIS GAME FOR NEXT GEN!!!
Yeah, FP is a mistake. Should have went third person, makes it look really soulless imo.
It just looks to me like a shiny and futuristic but less fun GTA.
I'll still play it at some point on the PS5 but this is far from a day one purchase.
Geez that combat looks absolutely TERRIBLE. No wonder they hardly show any combat.
Feels like a 2021 delay is incoming.
@HMazzy111
I'm talking living in a city in the past tense. I used to live in D.C and now live in south Florida. From that gameplay that's about how D.C's streets would look at night.
@PegasusActual93 I understand that, what I'm saying is this is meant to be based in 2077 in one of the biggest most overcrowded cities in the US, it seems under populated. Perhaps with the next gen upgrade that might change.
No raytracing, barely any pedestrian life in the city, aliasing, the faces look terrible. (I think after playing Miles Morales and Demons Souls my graphic snobbery has hit an all time high)
I will wait for the PS5 version, and expect facial models to be as good as Spiderman Miles Morales, with raytracing and heaps of pedestrians. This is a title they really should of just focused on PS5, Xbox Series X, PC
so the base consoles are completely ignored by cdpr, even though they make up 90% of the install base? this is like the cell phone market where those running on an older os have to put up with horrible performance issues simply because the developer no longer considers that userbase a priority. the half upgrade last generation was the worst thing to happen to the console industry. i just hope that does not happen again on ps5. at any rate, like it or not, most people will be purchasing cyberpunk on a base console so it better run well. if it is anything like control, people are going to be very disappointed and rightfully so.
I'm glad I'll be playing this on PS5. The Series X looks way better than the one.
@Mega-Gazz i don't have high hopes considering they didn't show any base Xbox One gameplay. Worried for what it'll be like
I'll get it when there's a PS5 version, that was a bit underwhelming. Seeing this also makes me pray that Sony Cancels the HZD2 PS4 port.
@GamingVeteran I completely agree. It was my biggest worry. The combat looks awful.
Looks about as lively as Sevastopol Station from Alien Isolation lol.
I'm waiting for ps5 version, to be honest i think it will take at least 6 months for the jank to be sorted. Witcher 3 was pretty buggy at launch and this went gold when it had game breaking bugs! This thing is coming in hot from people undergoing 21st century equivalent of forced labour. Folks who play this at launch, especially if they are thinking about transferring saves to play ps5 version later are going to get burned, hard.
Great, PR face, would rather a dev, but nevermind. If it was Activision or something I'd probably assume they just picked whoever got the most sexual harassment on the dev team.
Having received my PS5, I can safely say this isn't what it looks like on PS5, because Demon Souls and Astro's Playroom are nothing like YouTube's 4k60fps streams, the bitrate is so low and combined with the lack of HDR anything you can watch online feels distinctly last gen regardless of the source.
@Bezbot A hefty difference but it was hardly ever seen....PS4 exclusives looked better than anything on my One X... but I do feel base consoles will be a bit rough....
