Nioh and Nioh 2 will be making their way to PlayStation 5 on 5th February 2021 by way of The Nioh Collection that remasters both titles with 4K support and up to 120 frames-per-second. Each game will be bundled with all of its DLC and owners of the second entry in the series will be able to get a free upgrade. Each remaster will be available for purchase separately or as part of the full Nioh Collection to mark the franchise's fourth anniversary.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, creative director Tom Lee also mentions ultra-fast load times and the ability to transfer your PS4 save as key features for these PS5 versions. Pre-orders for Nioh Remastered, Nioh 2 Remastered, and The Nioh Collection will all go live on the PlayStation Store next week on 20th November 2020. We have to assume there will also be a physical release. The PS5 version will also take advantage of the console's Activities functionality, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, cross-play with PS4 players, and 3D audio.
Lee signs out by thanking the fans for joining Team Ninja on its journey. "On behalf of Team Ninja, I want to express our sincere gratitude for supporting the Nioh series and our team through this long and wonderful ride. As a token of our appreciation, we thought there was no better way to celebrate the Nioh series, one very near and dear to our hearts, than remastering the entire story for both veterans and new players alike to enjoy utilizing the latest hardware."

I have 745 hours and 57 minutes on my Nioh save and 689 hours 14 minutes on my Nioh 2 save. So they mean I have to rebuy the games to get the PS5 versions and start from scratch.... Ye, ,don't think so.
@Zeke68 Nioh 2 is a free upgrade to the PS5 version.
@Zeke68 Both saves are save compatible AND Nioh 2 is a free upgrade, you donut.
@LiamCroft I bought Nioh 2 Digital Deluxe on day one, so I hope I get the "complete edition"
@Darkus00 Thank god. I would have imploded otherwise hehe ;-P
I was just taking a break from Nioh 2 to take a sip of my coffee when I read this, so great news (now that I know my saves are going to work with the new PS5 editions). So I guess I won't start the 3rd DLC when it comes in december but rather play Demon's Souls and Miles Morales/Spiderman from end of next week forward and wait for the PS5 editions of Nioh/Nioh 2 to be released later on.
Man, come on. We have backwards compatible and game "remasters" will be a thing again. To each their own. I won't be spending a dime on games I already own for next Gen features. But, this is great for me for titles I've never played like Devil May Cry 4 and Spiderman
So nioh 1 owners can play it on ps5 through BC but it won't get a free ps5 upgrade? I'm likely spending more time in 2 but just curious
I can't wait, but I guess I'll have to. Team Ninja can take my money if I need to part with it.
Happy to just play Nioh on BC, I don't think a PS5 upgrade is going to make me any better at the game.
find it odd that only nioh 2 gets the free upgrade
@IanAlbarn Someone of maybe a few gamers may not have given either game a go...
@Gilvin Nioh 1 was a PS+ game, so loads of people already got it for free. I suspect that may be a reason why.
And the complete collection, remasters and bundles begins, maybe we can finally have a complete fighting game now
I've never played Nioh so I guess this is a good opportunity to give them a shot.
Like @Gilvin I also find it odd that only Nioh 2 is getting the free upgrade. Any valid reasoning? Seems off.
EDIT: @phil_j I just saw your post. That sounds accurate. I bought it so wasn't aware it was on PS+. Shame they don't upgrade it if you bought it though.
I'm very glad Nioh 2 is an upgrade, I'm definitely looking forward to this! I love Nioh 2! Uggghhh... Not enough time in the day to spend just to sit and play it.
I skipped these games on PS4. I may look into them come February - assuming I am able to get a PS5 by then.
Nice. Very nice
I haven’t got to the DLC for Nioh 2 yet so this is exciting for me. What an awesome game, and visually gorgeous too.
Although I’m sure it’s disappointing for Nioh owners that there is no free upgrade, this is still a step in the right direction for remasters on the PS5.
Able to purchase them separately or together
Free upgrade for the second game
We know off the bat that save transfers will work
Personally though I do hope the game industry phases out “remaster” from its vocabulary, and it’s marketing scheme.
I own the Witcher 3 on XB1 and PC and I’ll be buying it again to play on PS5. Had they made it a remaster I would’ve passed no doubt; but I can get behind a free upgrade that lets me buy the game for cheap at this point and experience the enhancements of next gen.
This remastering sh*t is out of control. Who buys a remaster of a game thats just a few years old? Smh
Ooohh, now this is what I'm talking about. I don't care much about the Nioh 1 remaster, but I was just saying yesterday that all I want is a boost mode patch for 4k/60 on PS5 for Nioh 2, because on PS4 Pro you had a choice of it looking like trash, or running like trash and PS5 could fix that.
Instead it looks like a total remaster is coming rather than just a patch! That's fantastic, and frankly, Demon's Souls can get lost......the king of the genre is arriving in style!
@Ken_Kaniff Free remaster for 2. Tecmo Koei does what Sonydon't.....
Remasters of PS4 games?
That's going to take some time to get used to...
Nioh is my favorite experience from the PlayStation IV era. This was the game that helped me understand the "souls' genre, and I have been addicted to it since.
I also own Nioh II since launch and still have it sealed because I am trying to cut down my backlog, so I have yet to play it.
Great time to experience these games for those who have yet to experience them, I highly recommend them.
The combat system is superior to any of the pioneering Souls games, since it is faster and more intuitive, at least in my honest opinion.
A part of me is happy as I own both games but the other part is like: where are the NEW games? Does anybody know if the upgrade paths expire? I won’t be getting a PS5 for a while at this rate.
@LiamCroft You sure about there being a physical release? They still haven't listed one on any of the retailers' online stores.
