Sony has released a PS5 launch trailer ahead of the next-gen console's release this week (in the US, at least). The video showcases a bunch of PS5 games and it's neatly cut, but the big talking point here is that it gives a number of upcoming exclusives tentative release windows.
The trailer tags Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal all for the "first half of 2021". Meanwhile, Horizon Forbidden West is down for the "second half of 2021".
These release windows don't really come as a surprise, but it's nice to know the outlines of Sony's first year plans for the PS5. If all of these titles do launch in 2021, then it's looking like a very strong 12 months for Sony's system.

Crazy first year for PS5!
Yoo, that's a crazy list of first year launch games π
I am ready to eat my hat if GT7 lands first half of next year.... surely it will be later
Do Leopards change their spots? π
That's very impressive. Microsoft have let Halo slip and look to have a real first year drought. Sony really looks ready to capitalise on this I have to say. Even without Horizon, the others like R&C and GT still make a very good reading.
My body is ready!
No PS5 bought yet for me. But as soon as R&C gets a firm date then I'll be there.
"Horizon Forbidden West second half"
Unless they have GoW Part 2 already scheduled for March 2022 I'm calling delay on HFW. What's Sony last YUGE game during the holidays, they're almost always in the winter. And don't tell me Spiderman:MM, launch titles don't count.
Great list though. Glad I really only care about R&C at launch, everything else I can get on PS4, so I can wait until the PS5 Slim at $199 BF 2022. What can I say, I'm a human planner. π
But RagnarΓΆk said 2021 in the teaser. Surely the new God Of War game most be pushed to early 2022 then? If not. Truly insane !!
@rjejr
A slim will come at 2023 at the earliest. Sony always have AT LEAST 3 years between their hardware revisions I'm afraid.
Historic first year if all these hit. Though I think it definitely bumps GOW to 2022 thankfully. I already feel overwhelmed lol
WAY better launch year lineup than previous PS consoles.
I'm wondering if God of War is progressing quicker than planned and HFW a little slower (maybe due to Guerrilla Games working on 2 titles) and we are heading to another TLOU2 and GoT situation of two titles being ready close together.
@rjejr you seriously think a ps5 slim will be 199 π€
GT7! Horizon! R&C!
Must... resist... getting a... first gen... PS5...
Ratchet, Returnal soon as:)
This is the end result of an entire generation and a half of Sony wisely cultivating and nurturing its first-party studios and second party development processes.
Would be nice if Santa Monica can keep December 21 fixed for GOW2. The last game took them 5 years to finiah, now this one will be 3 years. Either the development on PS5 is just a easy transition from PS4, either we will not see big improvements in graphics and the game will also be available on PS4 same like HFW. Having such a big install base on PS4 my guess is that GOW will be cross gen.
@get2sammyb they are flying out of the blocks with this lineup, I really can't wait for, well all of them really. Crazy to think we could have next gen Spider-Man, Ratchet, Gran Turismo and Horizon all before Microsoft bring anything to the Xbox
I recently became a Playstation player. I've played the hell out of Horizon; Death Stranding; The Order; Gran Turismo Sport etc. and I'm so happy to have changed camp. It's going to be a great year!
My personal prediction
Ratchet and Clank in March
GT7 Delayed (summer 2021)
HORIZON March 22
God of War 22
Incredible line up
I wonder if Horizon and God of War will take the Lost Legacy / Miles Morales approach, or if they will be full sequels.
PLEASE!!! STOP!!! SONY!!!!!!! I have to many games to play already I got 10 games to play once the PS5 comes out in the UK(7 PS4 games and 3 PS5 games) This is ridiculous!!!
I did read recently that Sony were planning on pumping out more exclusives for the PS5 generation so maybe we will see both GOW and HZD next year.
I'm hoping R&C launches by March or so rather than slipping to May or June. That's my "reason for buying the console!"
I still have to finish HzD1 and GOW1 before 2.....so I'm not hyped about those yet, I fel like they're "launching into my backlog" lol.
I love how transparent Sony has been with their release schedule. I'm totally fine if they end up being delayed a few months, but way better than having games disappear for years without any updates.
Can't wait for my PS5 to arrive in just 2 more days!
@vapidwolf "you seriously think a ps5 slim will be 199"
"the PS5 Slim at $199 BF 2022."
In case you read over it quickly, BF stands for Black Friday. Sony always like having a $199 Black Friday sale on it's consoles. This year the PS4 Slim will $199 BF as it was last year, and next year - holiday 2021 - I'd expect the PS4 Pro to be $199 and the PS4 Slim to be discontinued as four consoles is too many. By holiday 2022 either the PS5 Slim will materialize or the PS5 DOE will be $199 BLACK FRIDAY.
Of course with 2 PS5 models one could make the argument that the PS5 DOE IS the PS5 Slim. That wasn't what I meant so I won't pretend it was, but it will almost be $199 BF 2 years from now. And there will almost certainly be PS5 revisions to both models before holiday 2022, the storage size is obviously inadequate on both.

@Zeke68 "Sony always have AT LEAST 3 years between their hardware revisions I'm afraid."
Considering the PS5 has a hardware revision DAY 1 with the PS5 DOE I think you may need to reconsider what "always" means.
And while I'm not going to do all the calendar math right now, the revision time frame has been shrinking all along. PSOne was after 5 years, PS2 Slim after 4 years, PS3 Slim after 3 years, PS3 Super Slim another 3 years. PS4 Slim was just under 3 years, Nov '13 to Sept '16. So, while it's always been 3 years, the trend has been shortening about a year every generation. So 2 years doesn't seem that out of the question to me, especially launching with 2 models. And Sony has never shied away from quick revisions. Go look at the PS3 launch and numerous revisions following launch - 20GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB. Also BC w/ PS2 from having the PS2 basically inside the PS3 to bc via software to no bc. Always changing.
And now it's 2020. The pace is picking up in tech, not slowing down. Xbox has not 1 but 2 "Series", X and S. You think they'll both be selling "as is" 2 years from now?
@rjejr. You not a planner but a hater.haha.ratchet and clank is legendary.word up son
I'd guess the timing is:
January - March: Ratchet & Clank (likely March)
April - June: GT7, Returnal
July - September: Horizon Forbidden West
October - December: God of War 2 (likely November)
This looks great. Even if there is some slippage (GoW) then the future for Sony (first party) looks brilliant. I'll get every single one - apart from maybe Gran Turismo as i struggle to get into sim racers.
And first party will need to be on fire if Microsoft keep snapping up studios. I really hope current announcements around Japan force Sony to review their appoach to their homeland again and start to reinvest in some of these studios
@rjejr I seriously hope you're right ill get another π
I bet Horizon will be rescheduled for q2 2022.
God of war ragnarok to q3 2022
@rjejr Nope, I don't need to reconsider anything. Making one with disc and one without at release isn't the same as a true internal revision like making a Slim or a Pro....
@Blacksmith1985 nope. Horizon FW is the planned summer blockbuster, there's a fall game pencilled in too, and two holiday period games for Sony in 2021. There's been talk of a Sony blitz of games for 2021/22 and I think they are planning on flooding the first two years with games.
Tissues ready for an exciting year of gaming.
I'll get my PS5 the day GT7 is released, seems that I better start saving then!
@rjejr Considering the entire PS5 design feels like a PS3-Phat type "quick, cobble something together with the design we have and the biggest space required to cool it, then figure out how to do it efficiently and cheaply later, yeah, I imagine PS5 Slim will be out sooner than later.
My question is if they'll stick with the bespoke proprietary SSD for the Slim, or just rip it out and replace it with an off the shelf NVMe4 design since the off-the-shelf NVMe4's inherently have to do everything the proprietary drive does. The custom one may have a very limited lifetime of production only partway into PS5's life, as long as off the shelf can be bought cheaper than they can fab their custom silicon.
@NEStalgia Not sure what will happen with PS5 revisions, normal or DOE, just that there will be several, but I do know the rumour mill won't be nearly as crazy as for the Switch Pro. PS5 Slim may be out before the Switch Pro at Nintendo's pace. π€£
Why are some of you here hoping for or predicting delays on some of these Sony exclusive games whatβs wrong with some of you jinxing things π‘.
@rjejr we not getting a slim model ps5 any soon Sony already losing a lot of money off of the ps5 og model.
@4kgk2 "Sony already losing a lot of money off of the ps5 og model"
I think 1 of the reasons they make "slim" models is b/c the parts have shrunk and they've figured out the hardware better so the new models are actually cheaper to produce than the originals, hence they make more money, not lose more. Like when they took the PS2 parts out of the expensive PS3 and it got cheaper.
Not saying it will happen, but that's my plan and I'm sticking to it for now.
@Zeke68 It all depends on Sony and AMD producing a 5 nm process SoC for the same price. Can't make a PS5 slim if the thermals are negatively affected by the smaller chassis.
@bronZfonZ That was never the point here. He said "199 slim at 2022β and I said I don't think that will happen, ie too soon imho. And NEVER ever att that price! π΅π
