Astro’s Playroom is one of the more popular PlayStation 5 launch games, and subsequently there’s strong competition for the top spot on the title’s leaderboards. As you complete levels in the game, you unlock Time Trials, allowing you to compete against the rest of the world for the fastest finishes. And in the video embedded below, you’ll see streamer Bayleef secure the world number one spot in Mountain Run.
It’s interesting how he uses various glitches in the geometry to maximise his time. Presumably, this score will be beaten in the days to come, as the competition to become the world’s best Astro’s Playroom player hots up. Reckon you could top this run? Let us know in the comments section below.

Using glitches takes all the fun out of things like this (guess it’s the devs fault for having the glitches). It’s a shame. I am really liking when I get notifications that people I know have beaten my time and I can go back with the touch of a button to the exact event! Great feature.
Edit: scratch that, just watched the video and the guy didn’t use any glitches, just the legit move set and environment.
@thefourfoldroot hmm there isn't a single glitch in this run I think. He just uses the level smartly
@AFCC
Yes, I just went back and watched and you are correct. Bad wording in the article.
@YurtleTehTurtle
Me too. With the ghosts, lol. Had the advantage of being the oldest brother by a few years, but still proud to have the best rainbow road time, lol.
Some of the time I was just happy to make it to the end of the course regardless of time. Got them low enough for the 7 minute trophy and that will do me.
This is nuts, very well done.
Astro's Playroom brings out the competitive side of me with those speed run stages! Really fun, especially as it's so quick to try again.
I usually never do time trials in games, but Astro is just such a fun game that I needed to experience everything is has to offer.
Uhhh, there’s world records in literally every game ever devised? People run Putt Putt Goes To The Zoo for Christ’s sake. They’re a ‘thing now’ in any game you search on speedrun.com, even the most obscure of obscure games. I get you were trying to highlight Astro’s Playroom but it just comes off a bit silly when there’s strong competition in running Digimon games from the 90s as much as there is in this game.
I haven't played it yet but i have astrobot vr and as soon as i played it i was a huge fan of astrobot.
It's great people are finding out how good astrobot is.
As of last night, I was #68 on Mountain Run, but I imagine I'll have been knocked down a few spaces by the time I get home from work. 😂
I really enjoyed the time trials in Astro and trying then eventually beating my friend's times, this video however just looks like cheating lol. I know it isn't but still...
@thefourfoldroot think so too! They just go through smart paths, they don't go through terrain or something
@thefourfoldroot The thing is, when you really get into speedrunning you realise that simply racing through the game as fast as possible is something that plateaus very quickly as people all reach the same skill ceiling. At first glitchless seems clearly to be the proper way, but when you see how inventive the glitch usage is - and how pulling some of them off is significantly harder than simply running through the level flawlessly - it becomes a kind of artform of its own.
Not to mention, some of them are so mind-blowingly complex in how and why they work, you can barely understand it. If you have a spare ten minutes and want your brain to leak out through your nose, give this a watch.

@Matroska
But this is exactly my point - so mind bendingly complex that people who play the game as intended have no chance to compete. I know it’s difficult, but devs should try to ensure that glitches don’t exist to bifurcate the contenders in to “players” and “glitch hunters”, or at least shiny everyone using said glitches onto a separate leaderboard.
