Here's some news that'll have the Birdman himself kickflipping over the moon. Activision's brilliant remake of the first two games in the skateboarding franchise has been a huge commercial success. It should come as no surprise, as there's been an appetite for skating games of late, and now we finally have a game worthy of the name.
So, what's the sales milestone? The publisher has now confirmed that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 has sold through 1 million copies. More than that, though — it's done so faster than any other game in the franchise.
That's pretty darn impressive for a series that's historically been a big seller. The original games were wildly popular back in the day, and it seems as though this latest entry on PlayStation 4 could become the biggest success yet.

Bought it on Xbox One. Might buy it on ps4 when it goes on sale because I played the originals on ps1 then I think I tried one of the underground games on ps2. If feels weird trying to spin with the small bumpers on the Xbox controller and you can't even remap controls in the game. Plus my A button is effed up which ruins potential trick combos and I can't find a new Xbox controller anywhere.
I hope we get THPS3 and THPS 4 campaign DLC, that would be awesome. THPS4 might be harder because it was different, but they should definitely do THPS3.
@GigaGaia I think they’ll add 3 in a next-gen version. 4 would work better alongside the Underground games.
@GigaGaia i would be all over that. Particularly the third game. There are some classic levels i'd love to play through again!
Edit: 4 had Alcatraz right? All over playing that again!!!
Pardon my ignorance. Will I be able to put my copy of THPS 1&2 into my PS5 and just play it?
Has it been made clear exactly how the PS5 handles Backwards Compatibility?
@LocalPenguin You should be. Every game certified after July 2020 had to be certified to work on PS5 as well.
@Menchi Ahhhh yes, of course! I did know that haha I totally forgot! Thanks man
Finally got this today and am loving it. Feels just like it used to but I'm definitely a bit rusty 😫
I played 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast. Waiting for Sega to release their next gen machine to play this on. I may be waiting a while.
Can I pleeeeaaase get a remake for American Wasteland? That was my favorite out of any Tony Hawk game.
Ever since I’ve received my copy, I have not put it down since. This game is so faithful to the originals. I’m having a blast with it. Here’s hoping they add THPS3 levels as DLC.
One of the few times I'm happy a Activision game is selling well. They did an amazing job, I'm very curious how they will move forward. Do they continue remaking the games? 3 and 4 would have to be separate remakes so I don't know.
I hope we can get a tony hawk pro skater 6 now to make up for how bad tony hawk pro skater 5 was.
I bought it digitally on launch and it's everything I wanted. Took me straight back to being 14, just with better graphics and way more objectives to keep me playing. I've put in nearly 30 hours already and am nowhere near done.
I really hope this means they do 3+4 next!
Ow, my thumbs!
They hurt.
@RatmCky Tony Hawk 1, 2, and 3 were all similar in game play. You select a level, you get a time limit, and you have a series of goals to achieve during that time limit.
In 4 they started down the path of "open world" and that doesn't make for a good inclusion with 3. Even if they bundled 4 with THUG or later TH games, it would likely be in the form of a stand-alone remake/remaster, since each of those had their own open world.
For me, TH died when it went open world. I don't want to play it like that.
@thedevilsjester have to disagreed. 4 was the best! I don’t think they would do a bundle of 2 at a time and then drop it with 3. It would be 3+4 then thug 1+2. I would be fine if they stopped there though.
@RatmCky You may like it best, but Tony Hawk 4 got the worst scores of the first 4 titles, with 2 getting the best.
Tony Hawk 2: Metacritic 98%
Tony Hawk 4: Metacritic 90%
Of course 90% is still a great score; but personally I thought TH4 was garbage. What I mean by that is no matter how great any other aspect of the game is/was. the "open world" ruined it. I could not get past that terrible design to get any enjoyment out of the rest of the game (same goes for other franchises that did this, like SSX, and various racers)
@thedevilsjester haha well this just got pointless.
Not surprised in the least, im 38 and everyone I know has been wanting this for years. It was an amazing game back in the day and its even better now. I'm sure this got people who haven't played in years to buy a console and play again
