The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima Among Top Nominees in Golden Joystick Awards 2020

Playstation GOTY, hmmm tough one.

I really appreciate what Dreams is doing, for it's vision alone that should win it...
TLOUS2 is a tour de force by a studio at the top of it's game...

But for me it's got to be Ghost of Tsushima, went waaaaay beyond it's expectations for me, a real modern classic.

@Futureshark Couldn't agree more about GoT, I think it is partly because it came after the Grim (but excellent) TLOU2. We needed a happier vibe game with what is going on in the world and Got just hit the spot - brilliant.

Animal crossing should be in every category and win them all.

Quite odd how they have all of these bizarre categories but no actual "best game" lol.

Ok here are my picks for these awards. Not that anyone cares...

Best Audio: Idk I guess Alyz since it's a VR game?
Best Family Game: This was a hard one. It was either Animal Crossing, Fall Guys, or Mario 3D All-stars...3D All Stars is basically just a light Remaster collection (a good one, but a collection none the less), so it was Fall Guys or Animal Crossing. I chose Animal Crossing since I played that game for longer, but I did enjoy both, so I'm fine with either of those 2 winning.
Best Gaming Community: None. They all suck, but Dreams does have a more creative community, so I'll choose them.
Best Game Expansion: Wow! I played none of these! I guess I'll Choose No Man's Sky, because now the game is worth something.
Best Indie Game: These all all great games, but Hades is probably the best one. Barely.
Best Multiplayer Game: Fall Guys. The other ones not so much.
Best Studio: Gonna have to make a seperate comment for this lol
Best Visual Design: ITS ORI.
Most Wanted Game: Alot of these games I'm interested in, but it's Ratchet and Clank for me.
Playstation Best Game: Ghost of Tsushima OR Dreams. Those both are fun games

Still Playing: People Still play those? Oh yeah, Minecraft, I like that game.

Playstation game of the year is final fantasy 7 remake followed by ghost of tsushima. Ff7 remake is so good, it's one of the best ps4 games for me. Ghost of tsushima is also great, sucker punch nails the combat in this game.

Best Studio:

• Infinity Ward: They fill up your hard drive like a grandma overfeeding you. And Call of Duty isn't as good as it was before. 6/10
• Media Molecule: They helped people make great games and other people make bad games. 7.5/10
• Mediatonic: Made one of the best games of 2020 and at was free for a limited time 8/10
• Naughty Dog: Hmmmm let's see...made a overhyped sequel that was Alright at best and was a disappointment compared to the First Game, the story was kinda dumb, the gameplay was good but WHO PLAYS THE LAST OF US FOR THE GAMEPLAY!? And it doesn't help that they badly treated Employees...They went from Greats to Alright in under a year, so 5/10
• Paradox: Who?
  Ok, after googling it, it looks like they make some good games, so 7/10
• Respawn: Jedi Fallen Order is good, And Apex exists, so another 7.5/10
• Sucker Punch: Do I even need to say anything? 9/10
• Supergiant: Hades good. 9/10

Should give Last of us 2 an award for their accessibility features.

@Futureshark I agree. I just finished Ghosts of Tsushima last night and got the Platinum trophy for it. The game blew me away. The story was very well done, and that ending ... Wow. I can't wait to see where the story goes from there in the sequel. There are so many possibilities.

The Last Of Us 2 is my game of the year pre- Cyberpunk 2077.

My 'still playing' and 'best community' would both be Red Dead Online. Friendly cowpokes is refreshing.

The Last of Us Part II should win in every single.category it's nominated for. The idea it shouldn't is absurd!

Fall Guys in every category it can win, the little game that could.

Oh and they should give RDR2 the GOTY award from 2018. I really enjoyed God of War but Red Dead was robbed!

Pretty sad to see no Doom Eternal in these categories. I'm torn between that and Ghost of Tsushima for GOTY.

@Col_McCafferty I'd disagree with it winning the story category given how divisive it is. But I'd definitely favour it winning stuff like best audio and technical prowess.

@ThroughTheIris56 The fact that it's so divisive is WHY it should win that category as well imo.

Better they did something bold rather than just pursue a more 'safe' narrative.

@Col_McCafferty I think that the fact it's divisive, shows that while there were good aspects to the game, the narrative had lots of serious problems. It depends who's giving the award/how the vote is decided, but I think it makes more sense to give it to something that is more universally praised.

Taking risks can be admirable, but that doesn't mean the risks will pay off, on the contrary they can backfire heavily. I'd take a "safe" game/narrative that does it's job well.

@Col_McCafferty I always say GoW is fackin beautiful in everything and I love it, but it's just not better than RDRII no matter anybody's opinion. It's just not. I checked the history of the awards and that of Bafta and realized both award schemes have been giving GOTY to a lot of Rockstar games over the years, so maybe this was just to make a change so they don't get called R* fanboys.

Oh and TLOUII deserves GOTY just for campaign length alone if not for anything. ND could've released half of it as priced DLC but they didn't.

I know I’ll get flack for this. But I didn’t care for RDR II at all. As for God of War, I got burned out five hours into it. It didn’t hook me like it did my friends, who were crazy about it.

I will say that both are beautiful games, especially RDR II.

But they just didn’t hook me. God of War never has and while I was addicted to RDR 1, the sequel just wasn’t for me.

@TheArt Nah, I don't think it was that. Reckon all the talk of Crunch put some people off plus It's release date combined with it's length probably didn't help either.

God of War was released back in April and relatively short. Even if people didn't actually get to play it they could still watch a comply playthrough online. I wonder how many voters do this?

@Col_McCafferty it's obvious the voters didn't spend enough time with it, because it's a game like most R* games you're going to miss all spectacular nuances and extra details if you speed through the missions like a linear game.
