Timed exclusivity, who isn't a fan of this new battleground for nonsensical console wars to take place on? Sony has gotten in on the action with PlayStation 5 games Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, and yesterday Microsoft put together its own little army of titles that will be exclusive to Xbox Series X for a limited time. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was one of those games, but due to its position as a Console Launch Exclusive, it will most likely come to PS5 at some point in the distant future.
What's more, as pointed out by Kotaku, a press release reads that the game is "coming first to Xbox Series X as a console launch exclusive." It's by no means confirmed, but we'd be surprised if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 doesn't end up on PS5 eventually. The same can be said of Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. These are all just temporary deals with third-party publishers that will expire at some point.
Will you wait to play this one on PS5, or are you hyped enough about Xbox Series X to pick it up there via Game Pass? Let us know in the comments below.

STALKER and The Medium were the highlights for me. Luckily, both are "console launch exclusive", so I expect to play them at some point.
Game pass though..
I will probably skip it honestly. With the backlog I have, buying only one system makes sense for me (the additional exclusives would just add more games I can’t get to). And PlayStation makes the type, and variety, of games that speak to me. So I’ll be getting PS5 on day one (assuming I can get it pre-ordered).
Any of the games that come later to PS5, especially a year later, I’m not going to pay full price for. So the wait is longer...and most likely would just end up on the aforementioned backlog.
The good news is I’m way more excited for Kena than any of the launch exclusives revealed for the Series X.
But I though they said exclusives is bad? So do exclusives is bad or not
Just dropping this here
Spencer said. “Our device is not the centre of our strategy, our game is not the centre of the strategy. We want to enable you to play the games you want to play, with the friends you want to play with, on any device.
“On TV, the Xbox console is going to be the best way to play console games. Xbox Series X is the most powerful console out there and it will have absolutely the best versions of our console games. But that’s not to exclude other people from being able to play.”
“Sorry, I am a bit soapboxy with this one. Gaming is about entertainment and community and diversion and learning new stories and new perspectives, and I find it completely counter to what gaming is about to say that part of that is to lock people away from being able to experience those games. Or to force someone to buy my specific device on the day that I want them to go buy it, in order to partake in what gaming is about.”
@Rob_230 I think, after yesterday's showcase, people are really starting to pick holes in what Phil Spencer is saying. I like the guy, but his words and actions aren't lining up anymore.
The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is PC only so whether it will come to console without the platform hold of help is debatable.
I was critical of Sony for the timed exclusives, but Microsoft here are just as bad if not worse with the marketing double talk they've used...
The only positive from all this is that both consoles will have some very good games worth playing on them.
@Cornaboyzzz Same here. This and The Medium were the only titles really standing out for me. Doesn't look like The Medium will head over to the ps5 though unfortunately.
Hate time exclusives. From Microsoft and their games/DLC and keeping things off Playstation, to Sony paying to keep FF7R to themselves for a year. Terrible practice no matter who does it.
I still think calling them console launch exclusive was a dumb decision imo. It's like nintendo calling that Pokemon moba game "free-to-start". Why not just call it free to play?
@ShaiHulud I don't know about The Medium, Kotaku says it's still open though.

It doesn't seem like this is even releasing on Steam, which is a bit of a kick in the face for those of us with the whole franchise there. Feels a bit like the bad old days of having to wait months for the console port, except this time around you know there's no technical reason for it, just corporate machinations.
@LiamCroft Deservedly so. I dont consider myself a fan boy, even if my preference has always been playstation. But I expected (and wanted) Microsoft to bring it yesterday. Competition is always good right?
But i wouldn't buy a second hand car from Phil. I dont believe most of what he says. After all his rhetoric that playstation isnt competition but then spending the last two months trying to run down PS5. Claiming he doesnt believe in exclusives, but moneyballing a number of timed exclusives and buying up all those studios. I just dont buy it.
And ultimately, the great unsaid. Microsoft is now ALL about gamepass. The Series X is just a means to an end. Playstation just delivers what i want from a games console and xbox just cannot match it.
Excellent as other state this and The Medium were what peaked my interest the most.
Stalker reminds me of Atomic Heart (in look and tone) does anyone know anything about when AH is coming out?? I haven't heard any news on it for a while.
@theheadofabroom Since it's coming to PC at the same time, I doubt it'll be stuck on the windows 10 store only. Not even Microsoft's games launch only on there now. Almost all the other games for Xbox/PC (except 1, which is still a beta) after the Steam announcement have come to Steam.
@Menchi I guess with the recent spate of EGS exclusives including Borderlands 3, I worry that Microsoft may be taking the opportunity to try and push their own store more along with their Games Pass to pull windows gamers into the ecosystem which makes them the most money.
With the changes to their Windows pricing/license/release model I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I say this as a huge fan of the STALKER series but if anyone has played those games surely you'll know that this can be nothing but a blessing in disguise. I mean let's be honest, they weren't the most stable and bug-free games. An eventual PS5 release will probably be the only day one edition that runs well.
@Cornaboyzzz I find that launch exclusive such a cheap way too market a game. With Tombraider i didnt mind it made the game so cheap with everything included.🤗
@Gatatog I agree with you on that and a lot times the only way too sell it is to release a complete package. 😆 👍
@Rob_230 Very much agreed...Gamer Phil is to XB/Gaming what Stan is to Monkey Island! And I'd still feel like I was getting a better deal on a boat!
Seriously though, even for the big guns like say Obsidian's Avowed, Fable,or Halo,Hellblade 2 etc.,will we see big story campaigns,or smaller bite sized affairs like Sea of Thieves with dripfeed content updates,& other live service/MP/MTX affairs?
On paper a cheap Lockheart S/Gamepass looks like value...but it seems far more geared towards the live-service gaming rather than must buys ala God of War,HZD,Spiderman,Uncharted etc.
Do hope Sony find a 2nd party replacement for Quantic Dream as liked their games & Until Dawn as an alternate.
And not forcing indies to go the live service route to get "engagement" hours too-good games deserve buying/support on their own merits.
Metro always reminded me of Stalker. That campground at 1:08 is a very familiar location from the first Stalker in the beginning of the game. I'm glad this is a timed exclusive.
Hum the cover art is intriguing but the video sure doesn't show much. I love these post apocalypse games so I hope it comes to PS5. I will add it to my maybe list and wait for a sale.
I’ve got Game Pass PC so day 1 baby!
@Cornaboyzzz That made my day, cheers!
The first game was very good. I played it on PC when it first came out years ago. My sons liked it too.
I’ll be playing this Day 1 on Xbox Game Pass for PC!
@JesWood13 happy for yah. Good to see another actual adult pc gamer thats happy about being able to play xbox games on pc, rather than be a salty virgin sony or MS fanboy that either makes fun of MS for doing this or feels "betrayed" by MS doing this.
I am ecstatic about gamepass so far and im happy about MS doing this.
Staker 2 will not be coming to ps5 its a Xbox and pc exclusive
