We've been waiting an eternity for another entry in the Splinter Cell franchise. Indeed, it feels as though we're on the cusp of a new game; Ubisoft has hinted at the return of Sam Fisher, and there have been some hints here and there. It makes sense to bring it back, and it turns out the publisher is doing just that -- only, not in the form we all want.
Ubisoft has partnered with Netflix to produce an original animated Splinter Cell show. As reported by Variety, the TV series will be an anime-style affair, and Derek Kolstad is on board as writer and executive producer. If that name doesn't ring a bell, Kolstad's most famous writing gig is the John Wick movie franchise. Apparently, the series has been picked up for 16 episodes over two seasons.
Other than that, details are scarce. Die-hard fans will no doubt be pleased to hear Splinter Cell is at least getting revived in some capacity, but it still stings that there's no real sign of a game on the horizon. Perhaps this new show will coincide with a PlayStation 5 entry? Who knows.

I've played most all of the splinter cell series, but still can't really say I miss it. It just lacked personality or heart to make me care about anything happening, accept moving quietly from a to b. Wonder if a reboot or a series can fix that.
I'll admit that the title + subheader combo made me laugh quite a bit 😂
The French need to start a riot to get these guys to actually make games in this franchise again.
The French love riots.
Next, Ubisoft is gonna make a Rayman anime instead of a new game
Ubisoft - "Nailed it!"
Maybe a game will follow, though. To be honest, I'd probably give this a watch.
I would be very cautious about any new Splinter Cell game honestly. It would have to be similar to the old games, or at least Blacklist, but I'd fear that Ubisoft would Ubisoft it with a live service/open world.
I will say though, a Splinter Cell anime by the John Wick writer is something I never thought would exist, but sounds cool as hell, so I'm okay with this.
Micheal Ironside or GTFO
I’ll probably check out this show, but I really hope it leads to a new Splinter Cell game. Not betting on it, though.
Really hope they bring back Michael Ironside to voice Sam. Excited for this even if I personally never wanted it, would really like a new game but Ubisoft isn't usually into making "new" games. Let's hope their management shake up can make the company interesting again.
@Constable_What No we don't love riots, so stop saying this or I'll put on my mask to riot in Canterbury
Also "no real sign of a game on the horizon". Did you miss the announcement of Forbidden West?
Splinter Cell fans: "Hey, can we get a new Splinter Cell game?"
Ubisoft: "No, is a Netflix anime okay?"
Not sure what made someone think Splinter Cell of all things is good material for an anime, but I guess it's something?
With Both Metal Gear And Spilnter Cell Down The Only Hope Is If Sony Can Bring Back Syphon Filter To Fill In The Void
@Rhaoulos Well as long as you riot somewhere!
Admit it. You love riots.
At this point I'd happily settle for the sadly abandoned ps2 classics on ps4 ports of Splinter Cell's 1-3 or that HD compilation that way we had Michael Ironside & no open world co-op, or eagle tower grindy mtx nonsense!
I think the series maybe revived on next gen machine, I hope it's a stealth game like the first splinter cell rather than more action oriented like their last game.
I see how this works. So if everybody asks for a Ghost Recon: Wildlands 2 Netflix series then hopefully Ubi will make the game instead.
I’d like to see a remaster collection of the older games. I have the first few on my PS2 and they still Hold up surprisingly good Even today. If the modernised the controls I think these games are still highly playable.
Not really into cartoons so I'll give it a miss.
@tameshiyaku I would love to see a Syphon Filter with Gabe again or Lian Xing.
@Flaming_Kaiser true, I enjoyed the Syphon filter series way more, though I only played the two PSP titles. MGS remains king of the genre though.
Yup, basically as the articles sums up, I'm happy that Ubisoft is at least doing something with the franchise that might be worthwhile, I just wish it was a game. Maybe if the show is a hit it will get somebody at Ubisoft thinking.
@Flaming_Kaiser. Syphon filter and crash is the best ps1 games.word up son
Not only animated, but (in my opinion) the worst kind of animation.
Splinter cell was good , didnt much care about the last game.
I new Splinter Cell game I could get excited for a Aimee Series Afraid NOT ! I would rather they spend their time envesting in making a new game not some dumb cartoon IMO.
I haven't thought of splinter cell since the original xbox days. Are there any other games since that has the player do the spread leg stand above a hallway?
@playstation1995 Lets not talk about the PS2 games. 😬
@tameshiyaku I had way too much fun with tasering enemies untill they caught fire. 😶
I've never been a big fan of the games, but will definitely check out the animated series on Netflix sometime.
