Returnal doesn’t look like your typical Housemarque title, but the Finnish studio has been itching to do something different for quite some time. Billed as a cross between a roguelike and a third-person shooter (with some bullet hell thrown in for good measure), the hook is that the title changes each time you die. Check out the first screenshots below:

Yeah.... I'm not sold yet.
I need to see more, but it just doesn't look up to scratch with what a big new IP should be?
I'm happy to give it a chance though, hopefully Sony give it a good marketing push along its development.
Looks a little rough around the edges. If it’s a full-priced release that’s a hard no, but if it’s priced low enough I might check it out, pending the Push Square review of course.
No thanks, i hate rogue-likes.
And the protagonist looks so weird and ugly. Look like the old lady from Doom games.
Wonder if Sony is thinking of acquiring this talent now they're still small🤔
This looked like one of the more interesting titles, but upon hearing the word roguelike my interest has vanished instantaneously.
I love the Lovecraftian setting, depending on price and release I may check this out. Not too keen on the Rogue-like elements.
I quite like everything about it. Especially the roguelike element.
Sounds ace!
It's Housemarque, so I trust this is going to look amazing and play wonderfully.
Honestly? For me it was one of the more interesting games on show, and it was nice to see Housemarque try something a little less arcadey. As @Octane pointed out, it had some nice Lovecraftian themes going on, so I'm definitely intrigued, and Housemarque haven't disappointed me yet. So I'm willing to let them impress me further, I definitely want to see more of it.
@Makina Yes, she is ugly. Atop of it, face gestures looks like from PS3.
I'll keep it on my radar, but I am still undecided.
In terms of everything shown, this was the only game that actually made me feel it truly needs the PS5’s technical capabilities for its evolving game world mechanics in a full 3D game.
Then again “Rogue Lite” is one of those words that just makes me run for the hills so can’t be too excited.
@Quintumply Hi there. I agree completely. They know how to make good games that are both in terms visuals and gameplay mechanics. And it´s probably gonna be addicting to. Cheers and have a good one
