The physical UK games chart has very nearly come to a complete standstill. The latest sales positions are almost identical to last week's, with only one or two minor changes to the top 10. In terms of PlayStation 4 titles, it's Grand Theft Auto V that's doing the best, maintaining its spot in second place despite its age.
Causing a flutter of excitement are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and FIFA 20, which swap places with each other to become third and fourth respectively. A little further down, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is sixth once again. Then we have Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which spins back into the top 10 in eighth. That leads us to Red Dead Redemption 2 in ninth and Just Dance 2020 bringing up the rear after a slow climb back up the chart.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 16th May 2020
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- FIFA 20
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
- Luigi's Mansion 3
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Just Dance 2020

How does GTA still sell!!! Incredible really.
We can finally answer the question as to whether or not being given away for free by the likes of the epic game store or being part of a subscription service like PlayStation now or Xbox game pass affect a game sales? It doesn’t. GTA5 prove that you can still reach the top of the chart after all those things have happened.
Oh come ON UK. Final Fantasy 7 is sublime. So disapointing to see the same old top 10
If I was Rockstar, i'd port make a GTA 5 Remastered with Single Player DLC on PS5 and keep the cash coming in with GTA Online.
What a cash cow.
I also wonder, why GTA V still sales...
I've played it for about 30 minutes and that was enough for me (actually it was 25 minutes more than any CoD game, so it brought 5x more minutes of fun, but still...).
Gta 5 the g.o.a.t. man what a legendary game.word life .word is bond.word to your mother.word ☝ up son
Given the quality of the game i can't understand how GTA is doing it. I've selled the game after a few played hours.
Ha, the usual ignorant comments about GTA V. It's a great game featuring louder than life characters, great set pieces, a virtual sandbox that is almost unparalleled in gaming and an online section that is just pure fun.
If you didn't like it that's okay but if you can't understand why it is so popular then that is your problem.
Most interesting game n the Top Ten for me is Fallen Order. It's a bit of a sleeper hit if you can say that about a Star Wars game. I think most people thought it would be a flop but goes to show how hungry gamers are for a good SP Star Wars game.
Makes one think about the Uncharted-esque game that was cancelled. Maybe EA will return to this at a later date.
@Netret0120 i'll be amazed if that doesn't happen. Kotaku put up a video today showing a photorealism mod that is currently being worked on by fans of the game on pc and it looks immense. I imagine rockstar will be more than happy to put the game on ps5 if it means they can continue to profit from gta online
The only one in this list that makes me mad is fifa 20. That game is pure trash and people pay hundreds of dollars for fifa points.
Glad to see both GTAV and RDRII in top ten for the past few weeks. Other openworlds just don't get it, that it's not about creating a huge empty world where the player goes from mission to mission, side quest to side quest without even sleeping. Let the protagonist actually have A LIFE, and R* does that so well.
@Col_McCafferty I wouldn't say they're ignorant.
GTA V was indeed a great game.....back in 2013, when it launched on PS3, it's still a great game, but much in the same way any other title from that era was great, you don't still see them in the top 10 charts though.
Most people are just in a state of incredulity at its continued selling power 7 years later. Much like others it still baffles me, you would of thought anyone who wanted it by now would of already had it, seeing as it's been on the market for more than an entire console generation at this point.
Great games come and go, this game just keeps coming it appears.
@Grindagger It's because of the online content. The sp campaign is very good but relatively short by today's standards. It's the online sandbox that keeps players coming back and drawing more in.
Don't forget, but everyone was old enough when it first came out so it's easy to imagine some kids being told they'd have to wait a few more years before being allowed to play it.
Don't underestimate the game's appeal to horny teenage boys. I'm quite convinced that RDR2 would've been better received amongst those of a certain age if the game had allowed you to sleep with prostitutes and have a companion when taking a bath!
@Rob_230
They really should considering GTA 5 came out on the PS3. It would be a whole console generation without a GTA game.
A Remaster with DLC included incoming makes sense.
Sucks for people wanting a GTA 6 but if i was a shareholder, why would i want to release GTA 6 and cannabilise my GTA 5 sales? R* can keep this going for years.
Would be interesting to see the actual figures of games sold because after nearly 7 years I'd have thought everyone who wants it would have it by now!
I played it on both ps3 and ps4 and enjoyed it each time but I never got into the online part of it, not my thing really.
I think it was already established that it was cheaper to buy the game again for in game money?
GTA blows my mind and let’s not forget, this is a re-release of a last gen game!
For those who still ask "Why is GTAV still at the top of the chart, despite being almost a seven year old game'?''. The reason is that most people who buy a PS4/Xboxone right now are also buying GTAV for themselves or for their kid. I also assume those people aren't familiar with gaming, so they buy whatever is the most safe option out there AKA GTA.
@Ryall one case is not proof of anything.
Might as well call GTA V 'Betsy' and hang a bell around it's neck, because it sure keeps giving Rockstar a lot of milk.
Epic Game Store started giving away GTA V for FREE and the demand crash the store 😅
https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/310589-the-epic-game-store-is-collapsing-under-the-weight-of-free-gta
Everyone will own this game (one way or another) at some point.
GTA V is currently free from the Epic store, grab it while you can!
Edit: I wounder if the free copies help its top 10 standing?
@Netret0120 agreed. Ps5 release with Large Single Player DLC would keep GTA 5 Single player & Online fans happy. Ps5 & XBSX really need a big hitter like GTA to shift new consoles early. Early Gen games can be slim pickings with the console games only hitting momentum a few years in.
I'm sure it's not the game that's selling, but the 'Whale' and 'Shark' cards they keep pushing for the multiplayer part.
I may be wrong of course, but after around 5 years, I'm sure just about everyone on the planet has a copy by now.
Sony could put GTA on plus next month and it will still sell like hotcakes....
@naruball All we can do is look at correlations which obviously isn’t proof of causation. Microsoft reports a correlation between people joining game pass and spending more money buying games digitally through Xbox. Appearing on PlayStation plus has no affect on the secondhand prices of PS4 games. Being given away on the epic game store has no affect on the chart position of GTA.
I’ve heard a lot of people say they gut feeling is that subscription services should be bad the game sales. But I yet to see anyone provide any evidence that that is the case.
