Sony has just unveiled PlayStation Studios, the new branding it will affix to all its first party games going forward. Launching alongside PS5 at the end of this year, the new ident is purpose built to mark all the output of SIE's Worldwide Studios as a way of unifying the platform holder's software. You'd best get used to it, as it sounds like it'll be all over Sony's games.
The Marvel-esque animation will play "during the beginning of our titles", says Eric Lempel, SIE's senior vice president and head of global marketing, but that's not the only place you'll see it. The PlayStation Studios icon will also make appearances "a lot of different places". Lempel tells GamesIndustry.biz that "different, shorter animations" will crop up in game trailers, while the PS Studios logo will feature on the "game packaging and the game discs themselves" for Sony's PS5 games. The hope is that when consumers see this new brand, "then the quality games they've come to expect from us are here".
Are you ready to spot the PlayStation Studios logo on PS5 games? Watch that animation again in the comments section below.

Freaking reveal the PS5 already, Sony! LOL
So they're artificially introducing a loading animation for the console that's supposed to have no loading time whatsoever? I want to jump in the game NOW, not watch a silly animation.
@Octane The animation will load up instantly, though.
Very smart.
While most game enthusiasts are aware of a First Party game, the general public is not.
I’m more excited what this will do for 3rd party exclusives (which I assume will bear the logo).
Persona & Nioh could really benefit from this.
@Quintumply Is it 4K though?
@Octane @Quintumply 4K, yes, but only 30fps because of the highres assets...
@Octane Realistically, most people will keep their PS5s in suspend mode when they're not using it most of the time and rarely ever actually see this animation.
@Ralizah Haven't you watched the news lately? Any sense of realism is lost these days.
Looks at logo... .
Yep that’s one more piece of evidence that both the console & game cases will be black & white.
Neat.
It's a very simple but effective logo.
Nice and shiny!
hmm so upgraded it from ratchet & clank movie intro.....
I saw it pop up on YouTube and just thought, ok.
Too long, it will be annoying after the first time you see it.
The "Marvel" part is unnecessary, the last part with the PS logo is cool tho.
@Fight_Teza_Fight Why would third party exclusives bear the logo or animation of another "studio" and entirely different company?
This seems more like a branding and marketing move that will be unique to the games developed by studios Sony owns directly (Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Guerrilla Games, ect.) and that is being done in preparation for Sony launching titles on platforms outside of PlayStation, such as Horizon Zero Dawn coming to PC or MLB The Show coming to Xbox, where players would not see the same kind of PlayStation branding they would see if they were instead playing the game on a PS4 or PS5 and casual gamers may not realize that a studio like Guerrilla Games = Sony and PlayStation.
@MJ Horizon Zero Dawn (PC) will not get this logo, since it won't be ready when it's released.
so every time I launch HZD 2 or GoW 2, I have to sit through 17 seconds of PS studios opening animation!!
@fido Yesss ENJOY!!!! 😂 😂 😂
Why we need cover arts, when we have logos? ☺️ After years of proof that PEGI's marks only block and no one cares of them, we have another meaningless logo to place everywhere. 😀 What a shiny future... 😂 but that's not all!!! For those, who just miss this logo, we have 17 seconds long torture with presentation of our finest characters in really stressed situation!!! So don't buy it, when it's so cheap!!!
@MJ Sony considers any game they publish First Party.
They didn’t own Insomniac at the time with Spider-Man, didn’t own Koji Pro & don’t own the devs behind Iron Man VR, but they’re all this considered first party releases.
This isn’t the case with Persona, but Nioh is published by Sony in the west.
I think any Sony published game will bear the logo.
@Octane oh God, here comes the whining.
@Party_Cannon lol
