If like us, you're still playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege five years after its release, then you probably know that the first content drop for year five was revealed a couple weeks back. Well, the good news is that Operation Void Edge is now live on PlayStation 4.
If you have hopes of jumping in and playing today, though, you might want to check to see if your PS4 is downloading the patch, as it clocks in at a whopping 40GB. In addition to a spate of bug fixes and rebalances --including a huge nerf of Lesion -- Rainbow Six players can look forward to a new attacker and defender, as well as a major redesign to launch map, Oregon. There is also a truly bizarre tie-in, as you can buy an elite skin for Ash that transforms her into Lara Croft.
The new attacker, Iana, offers a controllable hologram to scope out the level, while the new defender, Oryx, can sprint through walls as well as the ability to jump up through hatches. Are you excited for the start of Rainbow's fifth year? Clutch or kick in the comments.

Yeah I'm excited, especially for the new defender operator, Oryx.
@Stevenfins Honestly I think I'm most excited for the Oregon rework, but both new operators seem interesting! Lots of people playing them both yesterday too!
@gbanas92 I don't think Oregon was in need of many changes like say Theme park before, but I agree that it looks pretty cool. I don't know if you've seen the House rework they're planning for the next season. Some big changes are happening there.
@Stevenfins Yeah Oregon in it's original form was honestly one of my favorites, but the rework does seem good so far. I like it more than the Kanal rework anyways. House being back in the unranked rotation this season made it painfully clear that it needs a rework haha. I'm very okay with that one being redesigned. Now if only they go back and rework Skyscraper (I can't stand that map!).
@Stevenfins And bring back Tower! Everyone seems to hate that one though. I kinda love it haha
@gbanas92 Haha I'm the exact opposite of you. I love Skyscraper (it's maybe my favourite map!) and I hate Tower with a passion. Tower is just so dark I sometimes can't see a thing!
@Stevenfins I think part of my problem is just that I'm irked they called Skyscraper by that name when Tower should be called Skyscraper. Plus there's not a single location on Skyscraper I enjoy defending! Or attacking actually haha.
Gotta do my placements. Finally made it to plat last season.
I tried out Iana, and she's incredibly strong for a coordinated push with good entry fraggers like Ash or Zofia (Her hologram can take a single bullet, not counting the penetration of the bullet, and can buy some precious milliseconds of life).
Her guns are amazing as well. I could not stand the ARX on Nomad, but that vertical grip really makes a difference, and the G36C is slept on thanks to Ash's R4C.
The Oregon rework is very cool too. More cover, better layouts for the sites, and a couple new hallways make a lot of difference. It's very cool!
I can't wait to get back on to play Oryx. He overshadows Iana, and I don't think he'll be as good as her, but he looks really fun. I can definitely seeing myself playing him as a roamer if Caviera or Ela are banned, or I'm playing a map with a bunch of cheeky walls and hatches. I love that his gadget can easily deal with a Monty on top of defuser as well.
@gbanas92 Yeah I don't get it either with their names (before I replied to you I googled just to be sure which is which, even after so many months hahaha)
@Stevenfins I get that Skyscraper came out first, but honestly, I'd be okay with them just swapping the names haha
@Constable_What Yeah the G36 was insanely terrible during like year 1 of the game, but they got that to a good place ages ago, but people continued not using it. Honestly, I've preferred it to the R4C for a while now. I'm super excited about Oryx as a Monty counter!
@gbanas92 I came in at Blood Orchid, and the difference from then to Void Edge is night and day. I can't even imagine what it was like before then.
The thought of Jager having an Acog on his gun scares the heck out of me.
@Constable_What I was actually doing all that spawn peeking stuff with Jager prior to it being a real part of the meta. I'm patient 0 for the game's toxicity! I haven't touched Jager in ages though. Honestly, a lot of the early aspects of the game are downright antiquated! You use to have buy attachments per operator per gun using renown!
@gbanas92 I had to as well in Blood Orchid. Then two seasons or so later I found out I wasted all that renown.
Thanks Ubisoft. Haha
Love this game!
@Constable_What Ah okay buying attachments was still around at that point then haha. They refunded some of it I think! Mighta just been for certain attachments though.
Yeah, the game's just sooooo good. I don't think I've ever put so much time into one individual game as this one in my life!
