Horizon: Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer, Head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst has confirmed. Hulst, who co-founded and managed Horizon developer Guerrilla Games before being promoted, casually dropped the confirmation in a new interview that's been posted to the official PlayStation Blog. The title's already listed on Steam.
"Yes, I can confirm that Horizon: Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer. There will be more information coming from Guerrilla, from the new studio directors [Michiel van der Leeuw, JB van Beek, and Angie Smets] pretty soon," says Hulst.
A PC port of Horizon has been rumoured for at least a couple of months now, and it's always been a controversial topic among some PlayStation fans. After all, this is a first-party PS4 exclusive we're talking about.
"I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on," Hulst explains.

Good for them, hope pc gamers enjoy it. Going to be some salt incoming I'm sure
i aint hating, but im not too thrilled tbh lol
Excited, my 2080Ti gonna get a workout!
Well nothing is certain now. None knows now if other exclusives come to pc and having consoles is becoming more and more pointless
That’s very cool. Love using a mouse for bows, it feels great.
I’m not a fan of the idea. I like exclusives because they are typically the highest quality games because they are competing on a different level than what third party companies are.
Granted, if there was just one system that played all games there is no way to know if quality would be effected.
I just know from history Sony and Nintendo exclusives tend to be my favorite games.
Since we all can assume HZD2 will be a launch title for PS5, this is basically a no brainer marketing tactic - kinda frustrating nonetheless but I guess it’s good more gamers can be exposed to it.
Hopefully the work to jazz it up for the PC will be reflected back at the PS5 with a launch day patch for the original title....
🤞
Devaluation of PlayStation brand, just love it. Bravo Sony, bravo!
I've said it before and believe it or not but this is the start of the end for consoles. PC will eventually be the "master race". I honestly will not trust Sony again when they try to sell a game as an "exclusive". Because there all obviously just timed now.
Interested to see how this will look on a top-end PC. The game's already ridiculously pretty on a standard PS4, let alone a Pro.
Do you know what is funny? They announce Horizon for PC but announcing PS5 news is taboo. Bravo.
Worst mistake to make exclusives not exclusives anymore.
@Stragen8 There's very little chance of Horizon 2 being a PS5 launch title.
At least people will now get to play it in real 4k or more locked at 60fps or more with the maximum amount of textures and everything thrown in, the PC version ironically will be the definitive edition of the game now.
Couldn't care less about PS Exclusives going on PC, I prefer Console Gaming so that is what I will continue to do, regardless on whether exclusives stay exclusives.
What I do care about, is the front of Sony to announce this before anything PS5 related that isn't a logo.
They need to announce something soon surely? Xbox have another info announcement planned so you would hope Sony would follow suit within the next month or two at the latest.
At least this means HZD2 is a definite PS5 Launch Window-ish Title (Within 8-12 months of launch).
Also from the Eurogamer article:
Hulst also moved to reassure PlayStation fans that Sony remains committed to the console business.
"And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn't necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC," he said.
"In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don't have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100 per cent committed to dedicated hardware."
Wanted to throw that before people start freaking out that Sony is somehow switching to PC market - since this article failed to mentioned this.
@GamingFan4Lyf They will release that as a separate article knowingly to ensure double the clicks.
This is a publication site after all
i give it a week before someone releases a lewd mod for Aloy
Here we go. You know what annoys me the most? Self righteous people calling out gamers because they believe in exclusives and say it.
I just hope exclusive games keep the same impact on ps5 as they always have.
Sony wants to engage more games into PlayStation hardware by showing them what they miss, like HDZ2.
@BarefootBowser true especially as the game has been out on PS4 for a while already, it's probably not even going to impact PS4 sales either
Thank goodness it's not an "Epic exclusive."
The game will look amazing running at 60fps, and I've been dying to play this with gyro aiming.
@DonJorginho @GamingFan4Lyf Bingo.
No but seriously we do separate articles when we think there's more than one story. The second quote is worth its own headline because then it doesn't get buried in an existing article.
@ShogunRok I am not dissing it mate! It is the best and most efficient way to get news out, especially when something has multiple points of interest to cover.
And it is especially key when both points of interest are such hot topics in the PS community right now
This isn't going to introduce new people to the ecosystem though, it's just going fuel their ego's and they'll demand more games to go to PC, it's a terrible move.
@ShogunRok Riiiiiiiiiiigggggghhhhht.
NOTE: Just bustin' your chops.
@Jester1701one. I agree with you.now pc fans is going to expect god of war.uncharted 4.spiderman on pc etc.when horizon 2 comes.the pc fans will say i will wait for horizon 2 on pc.so its not a good idea at all.word up son
People who try to PRETEND they don't care about an exclusive seizing being an exclusive are laughable. It's about it defeating the whole point of a console. Let's see you NOT care when these games are realeased simultaneously for every system. I mean don't even bother being a fan of any sports team since competition is pointless to you. I know a lot of folk who went out their way to get a Switch for BOTW, that's the power of exclusives. So stop the downplaying.
We've all had months to prepare for this news. And if the former head of Guerilla Games is approving it, that probably means there's a good reason for it.
As for the idea of it devaluing the playstation brand, um not seeing it. If being part of the "PC Master Race" means waiting up to three years to maybe play some playstation games, it's not very appealing.
Sony getting more value out of three year old game isn't a bad thing. And getting PC gamers on board with this game so close to the launch of a new console has bigger implications than just porting a game.
I'm not one for making predictions, but if this turns out to be a more savvy move in hindsight by the end of the year, I won't be surprised.
@GamingFan4Lyf @DonJorginho
It's weird, but I hope it will have cross-save between ps4 and pc.
@GamingFan4Lyf This isn't the first PC game though, the whole QD library will be on PC and Journey is aswell. If Horizon sells as good as I know it will since PC gamers will see this as a potential opening of the flood gates for other games there is no reason Sony won't continue porting over games.
When Microsoft began porting their games to PC it wasn't their whole catalog right away, they tested the waters first (like Sony now) with a game here and there, after they saw all the extra revenue coming in there was no reason to not go all in on PC.
I predict God of war will probably be next along with the infamous games, they will begin with older exclusives that they think people forgot about. Sony is not going to see all that money Horizon makes on PC and be like "oh okay we made more than enough money, let's stop here guys"
I certainly don't like the idea. The master race will finally have some fun with the mascot.
Well, PS5 money straight to PC parts now.
Time to change this site name to: "Push SpaceBar"
This's the stupidest decision ever from Sony to say that some of your games might go to PC before launching the PS5, now people are gonna wait for the inevitable PC port even knowing that it might take forever but it can happen now lowering the PS brand, now for me if the PS5 it's not fully backwards compatible with all previous consoles I don't see why should I get one
@Juanalf Quantic Dream is a private company. thatgamecompany is a private company.
Whatever deals were made between private, third-party, companies and Sony allowed those games to move on to other platforms. Sony didn't suddenly jump ship to PC with those games.
@LiamCroft It’s had 3 years+ of development time and their team is pretty large. I would be really surprised if it didn’t come out at least within the first few months of PS5’s release. Somethings gotta sell the system at launch and it was one of the biggest Sony games this generation.
@Stragen8 I'm expecting it to occupy the same position that InFAMOUS: Second Son did for the PS4. March 2021 or so to give us something to look forward to after launch.
@Ken_Kaniff cool story bro. Way to blow something out of proportion.
@LiamCroft Wow I didn’t even remember that Infamous came out a few months after launch. In my mind that and KZ were launch titles. I just remember the really frustrating drought of games after those two came out haha
What's to complain about ???
About a game that's how a few years old and the sequel is not far away and by the time that sequel is on pc it you'll have played it and moved on. It's just expanding into a market that can bring in those funds to bring new projects for Sony and GG. Studios for consoles are either getting swallowed up and destroyed with the IPs going to the buyer. This will help with funds for them in the future because I would rather have more Devs about then it going to a point where it's the power 3 EA, Activision and Ubisoft because at the moment it is. Indies are about but can't challenge the top 3 yes there's Sony and Microsoft but I'm talking about the big 3 that release a lot of games.
Back in the 90s you had loads of Devs during the PS1 era and it was great I miss those days because the PS1 and PS2 had a ton of genres more than PS3 and 4 did
I'm a PlayStation gamer through and through since picking up my first PSX (that's what we called it back then in NZ) in 1996. To see grown men openly weeping that a 3 year old title they've already played is now going to be made available on PC is pretty darn embarrassing. If your enjoyment of something is impacted even one iota by it being available on another platform then you might want to ask yourself some serious questions about your past time. If you're dedicated to PlayStation, well nothing really changes. If you're platform agnostic, take your pick. And if you're still unhappy, maybe seek out a system where you can be all alone with your exclusives like the Philips CD-i or the Konix Multisystem.
Now expecting @get2sammyb to do whatever it was he said he'd do in a previous article if this happened.
Can't recall what it was though 🤣
@Darth_Stofi
Didn't even think of that. As somebody who has been a console gamer over the years (although I'm starting to reconsider my stance on that lately), this kind of irks me. People can say what they want about MS, at least there's actual news out there about Xbox Series X for those who prefer not to go to the PC. Meanwhile these imbeciles Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst finally decide to communicate with the fans and give us this crap but are still radio silence on PS5. There's also the dipsh*t who replaced Kaz Hirai that I think is a problem. They can put all the PR nonsense out there that they want, I think it's clear these three idiots don't care about the PlayStation brand from the hardware side of things.
Disgusting. Aloy should be one of the faces of PS going into this decade, now she'll become a PC whore modded to high heaven.
Kratos, Spidey, Joel & Ellie will be next, all Sony care about here is money.
How much more money could Nintendo make if they started selling Mario and Zelda games across all platforms?
Quite a lot I would imagine and yet they say no. These characters are important to them, hell they ARE Nintendo in many people's eyes and they're not going to let any old Tom, Dick or Harry have their way with them.
I don't even like Nintendo that much but decision's like the one Sony have made regarding Horizon only make Nintendo look good.
There's no doubt the game will look gorgeous on PC but then again it already does.
This is sad news imo.
@hi_drnick
it is true that some people are unhappy and perhaps going a bit overboard, but that comes from a place of concern and loyalty. this move could really hurt sony's hardware and software sales in the long run and that is the last thing we want to see happen. so, such a negative response to this move is merely an instinctual reaction to have. those without any foresight might be unable to see it, though.
The salt here though haha. Honestly not that bothered as it doesn't impact me, i console game and prefer playing on consoles so if Horizon 2 comes to PC as well i'm still choosing the PS5 version.
@Col_McCafferty
Nintendo shouldn't even be discussed in regards to this stuff. I'm a big fan but this is a company that somehow in 2020 still doesn't have a competent online gaming network. Lets not kid ourselves though, Nintendo is as money-grubbing as Sony and MS, it's also just more stubborn. It has dipped its toe into other waters with mobile games. It's just a matter of time before it tests the PC market.
@Porco
Don't see really see it hurting the software sales, hardware is the concern. From my perspective eventhough I enjoy consoles it's probably way past time I stop worrying about that and just accept this is how the business is going and finally build a gaming PC.
@WallyWest People just giving their honest opinions. Why isn't it possible to do so nowadays without being called triggered or offended or salty?
If people think Sony will stop at Horizon then think again. If that doesn't bother then that's fine but the world is a big place and we don't all think nor feel the same.
😉
@BarefootBowser Maybe but you can't play Mario on a PS4 nor Zelda on an Xbox.
I'm not saying Nintendo are perfect and without fault but none of your given examples equal Sony sending their new poster girl to a completely different platform.
@BarefootBowser Right now you can't but do you really think they will stop with Horizon? Especially if it's a success?!
Ha, how naive!
@BarefootBowser Okay not on console but as you have just pointed out there are a lot of users on PC and if they can get their hands on one PS exclusive why not more?!
@BarefootBowser I think it does harm the PlayStation brand. Definitely. Aloy being on PC as well almost assuredly damages the brand as well as the IP.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter but here on this forum, a gaming forum, it's pretty big news.
😜
Confirmed: PS5 is a PC with a PS sticker.
Totally fine with this.
Nice. Now a whole new audience will be able to play this wonderful game.
@Col_McCafferty You do realize why people are doing this right? Imagine all those new Horizon players on PC reaction when they find out Horizon 2 is a PS5 exclusive with no PC release on the cards, safe to say that's a load of PS5's sold right there. This is marketing for the PS5 and Sony branching out to those who might not normally game on consoles. I highly doubt The Last of Us Part 2 will appear on PC though.
Well this (AGAIN) somewhat makes me feel like an fool after being a 20+ years Playstation user/costumer and viewing SONY-s waving their ''Only on Playstation'' flag in front of everyone. Let me explain how i view things.
First the good news, more people will get to play the game and Sony will get a short boost to the profits.
Now lets take a look at the potential bad news.First i don’t trust this will be the last first-party-studio exclusive coming to PC, despite Mr. Hulst statements. There have been numerous sources already stating that (for example Dreams).
And no this will certainly not make PC folk buy a PS5, especially cuz waiting 2-3 years is nothing when you have hundreds of other games.
I can say with confidence, that they will start losing a certain ammount of Playstation costumers (possibly myself included), and they will start losing trust from Playstation costumers that are sticking to the platform.
Long term, i see this as a negative to the Playstation and console-gaming in general....
More money for Sony and Guerilla which can mean more games. This is a good thing.
@BarefootBowser I can't answer that since i don't have a crystall ball (no one here does), and that is why i stated my opinion that a ''certain'' amount of people will abandon Playstation platform instead of stating X-Y ammount.
But what i can gurantee you, and i don't need a crystall ball for that, is that don't expect Playstation 5 to sell as much as Playstation 4 did year-to-year after this.
Utter stupidity, well it was nice knowing you playstation, time to go full pc now.
PC Fanboys 1 - PS Fanboys 0
Can't wait for my 2080ti to take on this amazing game XD I've already added it to my Steam wishlist haha.
@CmShepard I’m sorry, what happened to the “games should be enjoyed by everyone” mentality that PS users have when a game from another platform comes over?
@Akurusu What games would that be genius? I ain't seeing xbox or Nintendo first party exclusives coming to playstation.
@TheArt the thing is... I bought a ps4 pro for 229 euro. I still have the receipt, bought an extra controller with it. Got Horizon from my then-GF now wife. I could play the game on my 4K OLED screen with like 2 cables from the couch without moving my pc that I do need to upgrade, update the drivers and other stuff.
You can imagine every single game now, the pc masterrace will be asking for it non stop now, all the playstation games will be coming to pc, just have to deal with it.
@CmShepard "You can imagine every single game now, the pc masterrace will be asking for it non stop now,"
Yep. They're all asking for Bloodbourne, Spider-man (which should have never been an exclusive in the first place), God of War They will eventually come... Sony don't want to be missing out on all that money.
hmm.. i suspect this might have been done as a test project for the decima engine, to prepare it for streaming at much higher framerates etc. than PS4 is capable of probably even before PS5 devkits were a twinkle in mark cerny's eye. if they've done the work, might as well monetise it.. at the same time, i don't think this is a particularly judicious move by sony, and wonder which one of the execs is the driving force behind it.
@CmShepard Astral Chain, Bayonetta, Halo, Cuphead, need I say more? When third party games are announced as exclusives there’s always someone going like:
“bring to PlayStation.”
“Exclusives shouldn’t be a thing.”
“Games should be enjoyed everywhere”
But when a PlayStation exclusive goes other places you get the outbreak you see here. Death Stranding & MLB The Show are recent examples. Yeah I know other platforms do it but I’m talking about PlayStation here since that’s what this topic is about.
Personally I think exclusives should stay exclusives because that, combined with good third party support is what sells systems.
@Akurusu The topic is about a first party game going elsewhere, the only one you mentioned is Halo and I certainly haven't seen playstation fans asking for that.
Its funny all those phrases you use I haven't heard any of that from playstation fans, it is mainly from PC, Xbox and to some degree Nintendo fans port begging for Playstation games.
@Gamer83 fair enough. i won't be building a pc as i value the ease of use and "forget about it" mentality of consoles. consoles also play nicer with tv's and look more aesthetically pleasing in the living room. they are better value and provide the "best bang for your buck". 95 times out of 100, console ports run well out of the box with no hiccups to worry about, plus i can purchase the game physically and not concern myself with a 100GB file (going to be the norm next gen) which would take me 15+ hours to download. not knowing if the pc port will run well is still a concern plaguing the pc space. poor optimization and performance rears its ugly head far more often in the pc space than it does in the console space. for me, pc has been mitigated entirely to indi games of which i cannot get on playsation. as such, pc has its place, but it is not my primary way to game.
@kyleforrester87 We can rejoice, at least Horizon Zero Dawn is still a PS4 exclusive! Hurray!
@Octane yes, it’s funny because other websites quote it without the colon and I am pretty sure (lets say 97.5%) that when I read this article earlier the colon was only used the first time the name was written in order to create the link. Every other mention was spelt correctly. So how do you explain THAT @ShogunRok?
Might play again on PC just for better graphics.
@kyleforrester87 Damn, they even edited the quote, because the original article has it without it.
@Octane how deep does this thing go..?
@Octane https://blog.us.playstation.com/2020/03/10/hermen-hulst-qa-interview-with-head-of-playstations-worldwide-studios/
Funnily enough, the blog alternates between using colons and not using colons 🤷♂️
@Juanalf Believe it or not, but the casual gamer doesn't care about what is "definitive" or what isn't. They just simply play the games. Only people who care about that type of nonsense, are tech obsessive gamers.
Looking forward to seeing multiplayer exclusive games coming to pc and watch ps gamers having to pay for multiplayer lol
@DominatorV93 I only see it becoming a negative if they start releasing just about everything to PC, but there's no indication of that happening. Dreams to PC makes sense considering the type of game it is. Many love game creation type of software, so I can see it being huge on PC. Other games like God of War, Uncharted, or the Last of Us, should remain with PlayStation. A few on PC generates interest, and may convince those outside of PlayStation, to buy a PS5.
@InsertUsername Dreams will only be good on pc, if users can then sell their games, if not it will never take off.
There are simply better looking, more in depth, more supported, free game engines out there with an actual pay off when you finish a game.
It would have to be like other engines where Sony will take a percentage if you do sell the game etc
PlayStation is becoming a platform, and gamers will stick with one due to their personal library. Eventually, hardware will be optional, so they're not losing money by doing this, only reaching a wider audience.
However, it feels really wrong.
@Akurusu
The only people I've seen talking about exclusives being 'anti-consumer' are Xbots and PC guys. PlayStation fans will get mad if something like Bayonetta, or especially Tomb Raider, goes exclusive or timed exclusive elsewhere, and they have every right to. Just like Xbox fans had a right to be ticked about Street Fighter going exclusive. It sucks when third parties that don't have to do it, still take a money hat to lock a formerly multiplat series to one console or brand.
@kyleforrester87 You're suggesting @ShogunRok edited the PS Blog as well? The hate is very deep...
I only use my PS4 for party games nowadays, so this woulda been the only way I’d ever play Horizon : Zero Dawn. In my experience, when someone gets a gaming PC, there’s no going back to consoles.
@CmShepard I’ve seen PlayStation fans ask for Halo bro. And saying you haven’t seen those phrases, I don’t know if you truly haven’t seen them even though they’re on Twitter, YouTube, etc. or if you’re just denying the facts. Like I said, all fanbases do it but I’m calling out PlayStation because this is about them this time & they’re going nuts over this despite the “well more people should be able to play this” saying when an exclusive elsewhere comes to PS4. See Wonderful 101 for a recent example.
A Wii U game goes multiplat & Nintendo fans get uppity & it’s “games should be enjoyed by everyone”, then a PS4 game goes to PC and all hell breaks loose. And I’m talking about elitists, not normal PlayStation fans like myself. I’m just calling out the hypocrisy.
@Octane @kyleforrester87 This is going to end up being an example of the Mandela effect. Years down the line, Kyle's going to be told "it always had a colon" and at first he'll dismiss it.
But then he'll double check, and every article he finds will have the colon. It'll even be on the box. They'll take him away soon after.
@ShogunRok I’ve messaged Guerrilla Games and I won’t stop bugging them until I get satisfaction.
@Akurusu it's different when a 1st party console game goes to pc. wonderfull 101 is NOT a 1st party game. big difference. no hypocrisy whatsoever.
As someone who owns a ps4 but plays mainly on Xbox this doesn't bother me😂

Just feeds the hype for the inevitable PS5 remaster by saying "look what we did on PC... now on PS5". HZD is great but I'm tired of seeing the same game multiple times. I'm sure there'll be a PS5 "Last of Us" at some point. Remasters should be separated by a minimum of one console gen. That's to say nothing of the forthcoming "HZD - made in Dreams" edition
@SaikoWaifu2003 You’ve got me interested, I’d really like to know what you are talking about. What did I say specifically?
@keihtg I have a high end gaming PC and I still prefer gaming on ps consoles for a number of reasons. Maybe your experience is due to spending time with people who prefer to game on PC in the first place?
Not surprised by this. Personally, I’m not bothered with Sony’s direction, as all companies, money is their motivator, if Horizon brings in big money, then I expect more sony exclusives to go to pc.There’s huge money in the pc market. For me this is just the beginning, I expect the Uncharted remasters & last of us to slowly release on pc in the next few years. Sony will see it as stepping stones for pc gamers to start with, so that eventually if they want to play uncharted 4 & last of us 2, they’ll have to purchase a PS4/ps5.
Man, i love these kinds of announcements as they bring forth the worst of each community every time something like this happens. Someone simply has to take a look at this comment section to see what i mean. There were people on the Nintendo front that got triggered for the Daemon X Machina Steam release, for crying out loud. A game that hasn't even sold that good on Switch.
@Col_McCafferty Spider-Man is not a "Sony face". It's a Marvel(and now Disney) property lent to Sony for film and video game distribution. It seems your delirium has made you unable to distinguish facts from fiction.
@Syndrome Sony own the rights to Spider-Man though, paid for them at a time when Marvel were desperate for cash. He isn't owned by Disney, not yet anyway and thank for that as they own too much already imo.
Also, when it comes to actual video games Spidey IS one of the faces of PS. 2018's title was only released on PS4 was it not?
And delirium?! Just giving my opinions 'mate'.
@Col_McCafferty Again, Disney owns Spidey 100%. The only thing Sony "owns" is the right to make a movie with him every time Disney/Marvel want to. I don't know how to explain it more simply. Yes ,Spider-man was only on PS4 but he was also on MAU3 which came out on Switch and will most likely be on the Avengers game that's coming out this year.
And i'm sorry but when a reply starts with the word "disgusting" i don't considering it to be "just an opinion". Especially for these kind of matters. Hence why i called it a "delirium" and i'm sorry if i offened you but that's the way i see it.
@Syndrome I think it is disgusting though and also disappointing.
That MAU games looks like sh*te mate, nobody cares a damn about that crap.
You think he'll be in the Avengers game? Hmm, I'll take that bet. Maybe he'll be added at a later date but only if Sony are offered enough money to make it worthwhile.
Does not bother me at all, I will still buy my ps5 to play games on my sofa. Im happy that pc players now can enjoy hzd like we did when it came out. I love playing an exclusive like gow and I love playing multi platformers like assassins creed.
@FreakerZ Most Pc players play on their on couch with their big tvs nowadays anyway (Non competitive games at least) Ps4 controller is one of the best to use with steam as well.
@BarefootBowser tell that to microsofts xbox that released all their exclusives on the pc. the xbox tanked and its just another reason to not buy the new xbox. is that a future we want for sonys playstation??.. i dont think so.
if you are still playing on a pc and not have a playstation. then being exposed to playstation games or any marketing tactic are not gonna help. because what is gonna happen is this, pc gamers will just expect the playstation games to come to their pc. so they will not see the need to get a playstation game console.. and that is the facts, to think otherwise is gullible. what guerrilla is doing is foolish and will only hurt them in the long run.
