It seems the Sonic the Hedgehog movie marketing machine is going into overdrive as the premiere draws near. Not only does Puma have a brand new range featuring the mascot and his buddies, Paramount Pictures has teamed up with Snapchat to make the hedgehog a reality -- augmented reality, that is.
At specific locations around the world, you can boot up the app in your smartphone, point it at a landmark, and play a very quick Sonic-themed AR game. Some examples of where this will work include London's Tower Bridge and Natural History Museum, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Outside of Europe, the AR filter will also recognise New York City's Flatiron Building, LA's Chinese Theatre, Chichen Itza in Mexico, and the Sphinx in Egypt.
You'll be able to collect some coins before Sonic himself will appear and zoom around your local landmark. If you can't get to any of the above locations, Snapchat also has a Dr. Robotnik face filter for you to play with.
The Sonic movie AR filters in Snapchat are either live right now or will be in the coming days, depending on your location. Will you be giving this a look? Put a ring on it in the comments below.
