The original Tomb Raider movie was a faithful if forgettable retelling of Crystal Dynamics’ franchise reboot, and it seems it was successful enough to spawn a sequel. Alicia Vikander will reprise her role as the PSone icon in a brand new big screen adventure scheduled to start filming in April 2020 ahead of a 21st March, 2021 release date.
According to Geek Vibes Nation, shooting will take place in England, Finland, and Beijing, with Ben Wheatley taking the directorial reins from the wonderfully named Roar Uthuag. The plot will apparently be based on both Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with the script incorporating more supernatural elements than its predecessor.
More news on casting will be announced in earnest, so watch this space. In the meantime, let us know if you were a fan of the previous Tomb Raider movie in the comments section below.

I know a lot of people preferred Angelina Jolie’s version but I quite liked Vikander as Lara. The movie was decent, not great, but she was one of the best things about it.
Watched it on a long haul flight a couple year back and really enjoyed it. Little short perhaps. Interesting they're basing it on the 2 game sequels too. Fingers crossed it's good.
@Th3solution
Yeah, she was fine in it.
The story was the biggest problem. They really should've just stuck to the reboot storyline like glue.
@Th3solution I think she was good, too.
@get2sammyb agreed with you about Alicia Vikander is better fit as Lara Croft than Angelina Jolie
The Vikander version was a halfway decent movie but a terrible Tomb Raider movie. The Angelina films made no bones about including mystical and magical elements that needed little to no explanation just like the vast majority of the Tomb Raider franchise. The Vikander film sidestepped this entirely with its inclusion of a random unnecessary plot point that suddenly made the whole mystery about "science" or whatever. Completely destroyed one of the main conceits of Tomb Raider and certainly did the 2013 game no justice. Took Tomb Raider and turned it into a bland uninteresting action movie.
@get2sammyb I didn’t like the reboot but Vikander was great. Isn’t Ben Wheatley directing? That should be interesting 🤔
Looks like Angelina Jolie’s version is gonna remain the best version of Lara
Kitezh!
I only recently finished "Rise" so this has definitely piqued my interest.
I didn't mind the first one, it was watchable fluff but almost instantly forgettable.
I enjoyed the first one enough so I'm definitely interested in seeing another.
My wife and I enjoyed the first one. Nothing spectacular but an enjoyable afternoon popcorn movie.
I do distinctly remember after it ending looking forward to the next one.
Spoilers - she got the guns from that guy, setting up her support network, and the big bad corporate entity with world dominating ambition. Which may have had something to do w/ the occult or Illuminati or something. Ok, a little fuzzy on the details but I definitely remember wanting a sequel. I'm in.
Not a great film but i enjoyed it an i thought she made a fine Lara.
I love anything Tomb Raider. More games please.
I love Alicia Vikander. That's it. Nothing else to add.
First film was absolutely rubbish. So I'll be well up for this.
