Remake masters Bluepoint Games is talking a very, very big game when it comes to its mysterious PlayStation 5 title. Through various comedic Twitter teases and comments published alongside fresh next-gen details in Wired articles, the Austin-based studio suggests that it is cooking up something hot. It's probably Demon's Souls, and with it, the developer is aiming "to define the visual benchmark for the next generation of gaming hardware."
The quote has surfaced by way of a refresh of Bluepoint Games' website, where it makes a tantalizing case to bring budding developers under its wing. From discussing its previous projects, including Shadow of the Colossus to Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, to explaining its culture, it sounds like a lovely place to work. Although, we're here to learn about the team's take on the From Software masterpiece. If this website refresh is anything to go by, Demon's Souls on Sony's next hardware platform is going to be a real looker.
While the project was always assumed to launch alongside the PS5 in late 2020, the quote continues to suggest that Demon's Souls will indeed be a launch title for the system, making it the largest title in the studio's history. Are you excited to learn about the Demon's Souls remake next month? Fiddle with your world tendency in the comments below.

Very exciting if true, would be brilliant to play a remade Demon's Souls as a launch game for PS5. Not too long until we find out I'm guessing.
Something that irks me about Demon's Souls is the use of its apostrophe. Surely one demon doesn't have multiple souls, or am I missing something? I've yet to finish Dark Souls 3 but more souls-like games from the masters themselves is never a bad thing I guess.
@ShaiHulud That is what it's suggesting — multiple souls belong to one demon.
Oh just tell us what the game is already
Do we even know it's Demon's Souls?
@ShaiHulud @LiamCroft I’d personally write it as “Demon:s Souls” but there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to this sort of thing, apparently.
I’m excited for this game but it’s kinda lame that one of the most hyped games to kick off the next gen is a remake.
I'm probably in the minority but I REALLY hope it isant Demon Souls..
@ShaiHulud @LiamCroft @kyleforrester87 Maybe they'll call this Re:mon's Souls
@Gremio108 oh totally. Bring Donald, Mickey and the whole gang over!
@kyleforrester87 Now we're talking. A souls-like horror game, where Disney's most famous characters battle to survive while their universe is sucked dry by evil forces, with Uncle Walt's head as the final boss
@Wazeddie22 I'm firmly in that camp too. A Souls game holds no appeal to me, least of all arguably the worst one.
Very excited for bluepoint ps5 games, although we still didn't know if demon soul remaster/remake is bluepoint ps5 project.
I've accepted that we are most likely not gonna find out what the bleedin game is until they reveal the ps5 at the earliest.
Could it be an original game ? Or do they only do remakes??
No next generation launch title (or first year title, for that matter) will "define the visual benchmark for the next generation of gaming hardware."
Anyone who believes that is being willfully ignorant.
@SirRealDeal Why can't a PS5 exclusive do that?
@SirRealDeal the benchmark just means the level any future games (at least those that are purposefully pushing graphical quality, some games understandably don’t prioritise this aspect) should aim to set itself at as a minimum. I’d say Shadowfall did that for PS4?
It seems your interpretation of the statement is that they are saying no game will ever be better graphically than whatever this game is?
Would rather have a sly cooper remake tbh...
Its not confirmed to be Demons Souls, right?
Is demon's souls a sony ip?
Wait wait.
,' Bluepoint has developed a history of delivering the highest quality remasters and remakes in the industry. But that’s not enough for us. Our latest project is the largest in our history, and aims to define the visual benchmark for the next generation of gaming hardware.'
I read it like:
,' Bluepoint has developed a history of delivering the highest quality remasters and remakes in the industry. But that’s not enough for us....'
Like it's not remaster or remake....
???
I read it as that. I think it's a new ip
OK ladies and gentlemen. Just hear me out. Bloodborne 2...
@Loftimus
Or a new game in a franchise.
@LiamCroft
Is The Order: 1886 the visual benchmark of PS4?
No.
@kyleforrester87
Benchmark means what benchmark means.
I'm not interpreting it any way other than the way it should be interpreted.
Will DOOM Eternal be the new graphical benchmark for PS4? How many years after PS4 launch?
@SirRealDeal you seem a bit confused. They are basically saying they are aiming for a high standard, to which other games will look and attempt to either meet or beat as the generation progresses, as well how technology like ray tracing and fast loading might be utilised. A strong starting point.
What’s the issue here?
@kyleforrester87
I'd say it's ridiculous for any developer to say their game will be the benchmark for graphics on any next gen system.
@SirRealDeal Of course not, it’s 5 years old. Achieving a new graphical benchmark simply means it sets the new standard for visuals going forward, and other games can better it later on. You don’t seem to understand what the term means.
"Touch the Demon inside me ..."
Don't mind if I do ... (wink wink)
@SirRealDeal if Doom Eternal has the best graphics on ps4 then, yes!
@SirRealDeal I disagree. To arms!
@JJ2 as long as its not Ape Escape... I'm too old for that now.
@Gremio108 you pretty much described the Epic Mickey games
@Wazeddie22 No interest eh? I can tell your not going to last long here.
@LaB I completely agree with him and I've been here for years.
"Are you excited to learn about the Demon's Souls remake next month?"
is there any evidence that says we'll learn about it in February besides rumors?
If they are remastering Demon's Souls...
It's a shame that it's a PS5 exclusive.
There's no reason this couldn't have been on PS4 as well (in theory).
I think many fans and PS4 gamers would have appreciated that.
If they push this project so far visually, then it won't be recognizable.
I'm concerned that this will less about DS and more of a Tech Demo.
@Ken_Kaniff Good to know, but it was a quote from the blacksmith from Demon's Souls.
I also wouldn't mind something else than DeSo. Triple platinum for the game (EU, NA, Asia), but I'd rather see something new.
I’m going to laugh so hard if it’s not Demon Souls which everything points that is not.
Remakes of the Witcher 1 and 2 would be way hotter.
couldn't care less for a demon's souls remake as i won't play it. the souls fans have been spoiled enough already with 6 games in the series over the past 10 years (including bloodborne and sekiro). stop ignoring the syphon filter fans and reboot the series already! but i will be happy with literally anything other than demon's souls at the end of the day.
@tameshiyaku 100% agree with you.
@LaB Oh I gotcha, lol. Yea I'm hoping their doing their own IP to. Btw how hard was that Demon Souls plat? I've always wanted to take a stab at it but my backlog is a mile long. I've plated Bloodborne, but I feel DS is a whole nother beast.
@JMills
Hey I'm in the same boat. I think we're all being trolled for Demons Souls. I bet its Bloodborne 2. They probably wanted to really flex their creative muscle on this one and break their remaster streak. Most likely a collab between Bluepoint, Japan Studios and From.
@Ken_Kaniff A minimum of 3,5 playthroughs and a lot of grinding to obtain a specific piece of material (pure bladestone) with a very low droprate.
@Stewy108
How about a new Syphon Filter?
I do think they like trolling everyone
@Loftimus yes, Demon's Souls is a Sony IP.
European and US publishing rights are or were owned by Namco Bandai for Europe and Atlas for the United States. Not sure if the deal has expired or if Sony bought the publishing rights back or if there is a time limit on future developments for publishing rights. Sony didn't think the game was going to be a big seller and made a deal for the publishing rights apparently.
Edit: If they are working on Demon's Souls for the above. However I also love a Syphon Filter remake.
A Demon’s Souls remake at PS5 launch would absolutely be a system seller for me. Imagining this masterpiece of a game with next-gen graphics, new content (potentially), and a revitalization of online play would be the bait I need to bite that PS5 launch hook. This game is still my favorite in the series, stylistically. Waiting patiently, with fingers crossed...
@JJ2
Yeah that's honestly more likely. A little bit of wishful thinking on my part. Although I still feel like it's a From game. Maybe even Armored Core??
Lately i kind of feel that something is missing with BP making just a remaster/remake of Demon's Souls... DeS is not even that old, and it will be not that different. A PS1-era game make more sense for all the hype, like the RE2/3 remake.
Has Sony or BP confirmed that is indeed a remake?
Maybe they are working on a full new sequel of an old Sony IP.
See, all the games that I would have thought would fit the hype and the scale for this project have either been announced and/or released (FF7 remake, RE2/3 remake, Crash, Spyro, Shadow Of The Colossus, Yakuza etc) and I really don't want it to be Demon's Souls. I want it to be Syphon Filter but not remotely convinced it will be. I just don't know what other game can live up to this project 🤷♂️
@nookie_egg Legend of Dragoon
Lots of studios are tight lipped. I'd imagine the Sony reveal show will be brimming with announcements.
But we can never trust them to produce what they show in these demos in the final product anyway.
Games demos already look no better or worse than what they show here and yet somehow we expect this new £500 box to deliver where current tech has not?
I don't doubt there is some measure of improvement but do we need it this early? No! Is the improvement worth the money? Again no! ... We're being wripped off.
I'm moving to Stadia and done with Playstation at this point.
@Stu13 You've cracked it - it's an Epic Mickey remake!
@Wazeddie22 Ditto for me as well. The hardcore launch title for PS5 being ANOTHER Souls game would be disappointing beyond words for me.
I'm gonna throw a completely wild one out there just in case: it's a Legacy Of Kain remake.
@kyleforrester87 I dont want too be a ass but i was a little dissapointed by the last Killzone. Killzone 2 and 3 did maybe i was expecting too much. But Horizon Zero Dawn i was in love feom day one.
People people we all know its Legend of Dragoon. 😃
@Flaming_Kaiser sure, I’m talking more about it from a graphical perspective though. It was a pretty cool “wow, this is an upgrade” game to kick off next gen.
@kyleforrester87 I dont know what it was i bought a PS4 a year late and i was not blown away sometimes i think you have so much expectations it can never become reality. But Horizon Zero Dawn the gameplay Aloy i loved every part of it.
@makina I'm sad to say I never experienced that game, but from what I hear on various boards, it seems that people want it.
The only other one I could think of is Legacy Of Kain (presumably Soul Reaver but they might be able to combine a few entries into one cohesive story or something?). I got nothing else.
@Stu13
As amazing as a Legacy of Kain remake sounds, I believe it's owned by Square Enix. So it seems unlikely.
I really want it to be Demon Souls. Like really, mainly because I don't have my PS3 anymore, and I don't particularly have the inclination to go back to it, especially since the servers have now been shut down, so the experience would be diminished.
I know what there next game is.......... you may want to sit down for this.......... its the PaRappa the Rapper collection
Now imagine if...... it actually was
Some people say Demon Soul, I heard someone say a Metal Gear Solid 1 remaster?
Maybe BOTH?
