Death Stranding arrived on Friday 8th November 2019, and it seems it's been a success at retail in its first weekend on sale. It's the second largest new IP this year, coming in right behind another Sony-published game, Days Gone. While it's clearly selling well, it didn't quite manage to beat the juggernaut that is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is at number one on the UK physical chart for the third week running. Death Stranding debuts in second place.
Another key new release came at the end of last week: Need for Speed Heat. Ghost Games' latest iteration in the franchise crosses the line in fifth, and according to GamesIndustry, hasn't had as big a launch as Need for Speed Payback at retail. Digital figures may tell a different story, of course. Fortnite breaks into the top 10 with a boxed version named the Darkfire Bundle, landing in seventh place. MediEvil, which was 10th last week, is now six feet under at number 27.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 9th November 2019
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

- Luigi's Mansion 3
- Need for Speed Heat

Where's GTA 5?! Fake News!
It always nice to see new ip in the top 10 chart, congrats to sony and kojima 😃
Very happy i gave death stranding a chance.
It looks boring if you watch it on YouTube but when you actually play it yourself the addiction to deliver cargo kicks in.
Am i becoming a Mule?
gta5 is finally off the list, and replaced by mario kart8, LOL
GTA V is 13th, if you're wondering!
Death Stranding is the best game I've played this year and by far the best exclusive since God of War, a game up there with the very best of this generation. Well done Kojima and Sony
30 Hours in and at the beginning of Episode 4. Fantastic game, my first Kojima game but it won't be my last. Can't wait to finish my day job delivering dangerous goods and go home and deliver stuff. Well deserved being in the charts!
@Neolit goose game is just a Meme in game form and the US just loves their memes.
But no problem if they don't like the game. It's for sure a game that's not for everybody and that's okay.
It is however great to see it so high in the top 10 list,again prove that review bombing does not do anything at all exept wasting the time of those trolls.
@m8e3point1415 none I don't think, I believe they're talking about all new IP's whatever the publishers
@m8e3point1415 Em was Concrete Genie ?
Where is days gone the article said it listed as #2 and death stranding is right behind the it at #3
1 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
2 Death Stranding
3 FIFA 20
@potter32 "Days Gone is the only new IP bigger than Death Stranding". Nothing to do with the actual chart itself!
@MightyDemon82 o my bad I miss read it
@jdv95
I asked myself that same question yesterday.
I haven't attacked any porters, so I think maybe possibly no.
I also spent hours collecting materials for roads.
God this game is so good.
Imagine not liking it? Sheesh.
@Neolit I can only echo this sentiment, this game has changed my outlook on the open world genre and how the world itself can become the challenge. The social aspects are great and seeing other people coming together to help those who'll they'll never even speak to is a great system. Whether it's the spare shoes left in a locker or a shelter from the time fall to rest underneath, or even just a friendly cheer to help keep you going and a little stamina boost. These systems never fail to make me smile and it feels good when booting the game to be told how many people you've helped, it makes a refreshing change from killing everything in site.
Then in amongst all of that we have those fabulously directed cutscenes and a story which has me glued to the screen
@Quintumply GTA 6 incoming
Another successful new IP launch for Sony. This one may not be up my alley but credit has to be given where it's due. Nintendo has done great with the Switch but it's mostly the big hitters that you'd expect doing the heavy lifting. MS has been absolutely putrid all gen with new IP launches, eventhough it had a couple that had a chance to be great. Sony's been better about this than any other company the last few years with Horizon, Days Gone and now Death Stranding.
Days Gone, a new IP the games media loved to hate, is bigger than Death Stranding, a new IP some of the media love and some of the media hate. And then there's CoD:MW, which a lot of media tried to claim was controversial because... well, because it contained things which have been in previous CoDs and other games in the past, and they never batted an eyelid.
And they're all selling millions.
Seems like many in the current games media are about as out of touch with the public as the politicians.
Syphon filter from bend studio incoming.my favorite ps1 games ever.word ☝ up son
must say I am loving Death Stranding was not sure until I played it myself! music is so good as well I love Kojima's quirkiness in games he makes them his own way & the graphics wow. 👍
@Paranoimia
There's a reason I stick to this website for most of my gaming news. The people who review games here seem like they actually enjoy games and it still feels very much like old-school game journalism from the 90s. They understand video games are a luxury, not a necessity and deal with things as such. All the mainstream outlets like IGN, Polygon, Kotaku, Gamespot hire these wannabe activists (I call them hacktivists) who think everything has to have some kind of message and it better be one that goes right along with their political views. It's gotten beyond obnoxious.
@playstation1995
I wish. But Days Gone sold so well and the general consensus among the public was that it's a great game (I enjoy it as well, some performance issues it had aside) so we're more likely to see a sequel to that than ever getting another Syphon Filter. Shame but I think Bend has moved on from that series for good.
@Gamer83 Couldn't agree more.
Great showing for Death Standing.
Kojima basically has an Indie director sensibility (both in design and story telling)- that can command a big production and marketing budget.
And that is a great thing... SONY is amazing for helping him make this happen.
"Days Gone is the Only new IP bigger than Death Stranding"
Personally, Days Gone is also better.
@Neolit Hhmm, I don't think you can make the comparison of Untitled Goose Game to Death Stranding. DS is a AAA behemoth compared to Untitled Goose Game which was the little game that could. UGG was super addicting and a joy and delight to play in completely different way to DS. No need to denegrate one really good game to rasie up another really good game. Just sayin'
@Gamer83. It still can happen.bend is already making another game already.so it can be syphon filter.word up son
@Neolit whether or not it was your intention (loved being gaslit too, thanks) , constantly referring to Untitled Goose Game as 'that goose game' or 'goose thing' is belittling it. I don't see you referring to Death Stranding with other than it's full name. Both games are different and new in their own ways and it serves no purpose to pit one against the other. We all want new innovative games, we won't get that if we constantly tear down games that are.
I think Death Stranding is a cool game but Days Gone is my Game of The Year 2019. Even though I'm only on Episode 3 in DS I can already tell that Days Gone remains my most memorable gaming experience this year.
@ShaiHulud
Literally the first thing i thought of when i saw the list.
Only thing that looks like it will knock GTA 5 off is GTA 6
@playstation1995
I wish, but if I was betting man I'd say it's Days Gone 2.
@Neolit ok boomer
I hope this pisses off all the Days Gone haters, my game of the year closely followed by Death Stranding and Control.
@Neolit you 55 Neo? The baby boomer gen was until 1964.
@kiki3400 So you are a big fan of a good goosing right? Neo was complaining about a few mainstream reviewers he wasn't denigrating a crap indie game. I will do that for him. (I don't mean that though untitled goose game is decent)
Alas his comment was fine. But a very good topic you bring up Kiki new IP should be cherished by all. Including IGN.
@themcnoisy tbh I don't care either way about IGN. I don't go to the site, it's just a walkthorough generator.
If anything I think this topic shows that for the most part reviews mean nothing and they don't really have that big an impact on sales in the short term. So there is no need for anyone to get their panties in a twist about them and put down other good games, right?
@kiki3400 'If anything I think this topic shows that for the most part reviews mean nothing and they don't really have that big an impact on sales in the short term'
They do. Of course they do. What Neo was saying was that some reviews about the game are ridiculous. I remember once reading a review on ninja Gaiden xbox (absolute classic) - the reviewer gave it 1 out of 5. Insanity, and tbh outside of Knights of the old Republic, Jet Set Radio future and Halo - Ninja Gaiden was the best game on the system. No ifs or buts its outstanding. 1 out of 5???
This is probably why Neo is disgusted by the likes of a 65% review or someone rating it 40%. It's clearly to generate clicks, rather than to rate the actual product.
@themcnoisy But reviews by their very nature are subjective and while you may love a game and everything in it other people are allowed not to like it, right? I mean on the flip side we could say that Liam's super positive review is also only for clicks and not geniune. That it's only there to get the fanboy clicks, right? I'm sure that's not the case and Liam's review is absolutely heartfelt, so why is it that people who are being negative about aspects of the game are the ones not being true to how they feel about the game and only doing it for traffic?
We are getting sidetracked I think. I didn't mean to get into a philosophical debate about the rights and wrongs of reviewing. I just felt comparing UGG and DS with regards to how reviewers treated them was unfair and that the language being used about the game was dissmissive and derogatory.
I'm off to bed. Love and Respect.
