A Twitter user has stated a supposed release date and price of the PlayStation 5. This rumour is being reported by other outlets as a leak, and the date and price are being touted as fact. The truth is that this isn't fact -- it's one person's best guess.
The account @PSErebus, framing itself as an "insider", is reporting on when Sony will launch PS5 in North America, and what the price tag will be. Here's what it reckons:

According to this tweet, PS5 will launch on 20th November, 2020 for $499. Sounds about right, but there's absolutely no reason to believe this account holds any real information. It's pure speculation -- we'd advise you don't put any stock in this. The months before the arrival of a new console are rife with misinformation, and this tweet doesn't hold any water. That release date and price may turn out to be true, but until Sony utters the words itself next year, we wouldn't pay much attention to unsubstantiated utterings like this. Kotaku news editor Jason Schreier offers a similar warning over on ResetEra: "These are just guesses. Anyone telling you they know the PS5’s price right now is lying."
Still, at the very least, this whole thing invites discussion about the subject. What do you think will be the release date and price for PS5? Do you think this tweet has something, or is it a guess as good as any? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

The thing is most of us can make an educated guess and it would seem plausible anyway.
oh how i wish that europe could also receive the ps5 at the same time as the us for ones.
@AdamNovice Exactly. There's no reason to believe this tweet more than any other suggestion.
So, how exactly is this news?
I actually consulted a Sony executive from 2 years in the future about this using a magic mirror I made from a toilet paper roll, super glue, and a flattened piece of tin foil, and this totally happened.
This is the easiest speculation ever..
Are we going to get a news story for every piece of speculation from a random twitter user from now until we know more?
Im guessing this helps push the news stories per day quota a bit. zzzzzz
Oh look. A account named PSErebus is saying things. Fortunately we have Jason to debunk it. Phew...
Edit
'Anyone telling you they know the PS5’s price right now is lying."
Yea I thought the same thing when Spencer said Scarlet wont be out of place with the ps5 price. Haha
@solocapers More like there debunking the rumour which is more then what most sites will do.
There are loads of sites that are basically rumour mills. Come on guyssssss
Next gen can't come soon enough.
This person actually correctly said The Last Of Us Part 2 Release Date (the initial one) back on June 28th so they seem to have at least some sort of reliable source.
They also claim the Xbox Scarlett will release on November 6th and there will be some sort of Playstation event on December 4th 2019.
@JJ2 well it is possible Spencer knows what the PS5 will cost after all i'm sure big businesses will have that info ready long before they release it to the public
Ok about a year togo weather to break out the thermal paste and better fan or hold off till the Ps5 comes out and pray it plays Ps4 discs.
I believe ps6 will come november 20th 2027...if were going on rumours 😀
eh, i assume that is in usd currency? it won't be that expensive unless there is a pro model. base model will need to be in the $400usd/$500CAD range for it to sell. remember, sony can afford to take a loss on the hardware since it now has ps+ (which it didn't have with the expensive ps3 launch) to make up for it. in addition to this, i believe games will increase by $10, netting sony yet another revenue stream which did not exist prior. so yea, i am banking on the $400usd price point for the base model. i cannot see it any othe way really.
now, if sony decides to release a pro bundle at launch next to the base model and simply double the ssd storage and include a ds5 pro controller with it (yes, sony will come out with its own elite controller with the ps5), sony can EASILY charge $550usd for this ps5 bundle. what is so great about this idea is that it is completely optional and the base users will not feel left out since there is no performance improvements they will lose out on next to the pro bundle. more storage and a fancy elite controller is not really something to worry about, but at the same time, those with more money can shell out for the pro bundle and sony can make up for its hardware loss from the base models and possibly break even. so in theory, ps5 will not have a pro model at launch that affects performance between the two skus, but it will have a pro bundle that could appeal to enthusiasts. well, that is how i would handle this launch. take notes sony!
Its a no lose situation at this point in time. You make an educated guess based on what we know and historical pattern and if it turns out to be true, you claim 'I told you so' and if its not out on the day or priced differently, you claim it was delayed/ready sooner and/or able to be made cheaper or they opted to go with 'better' parts to improve specs, build quality, longevity etc. Either way, its not exactly a lose situation.
Pricing tends to go in intervals of $50 - $400, $450, $500... and just remove 1c ($499.99 for example). $500 maybe at the 'high' end for many when they talk about Console pricing but with inflation etc, they can't keep making a decent console for $400 without some compromise.
In 2013, the worlds economy was struggling so Sony (and MS) opted for a 'weak' CPU so at least games would look 'next gen' with a decent GPU. At a time when analysts were predicting consoles were over too, it seemed a risk to make a $500 console with the economy in a bad way too. The XB1 was more expensive but also included Kinect but when they removed that, the price was less than the equivalent PS4 bundle (console, controller, cables) and if MS had released the XB1 at launch without Kinect, the pricing would certainly have been around the same.
Its not unrealistic to think that a next gen console with a significant leap in the CPU as well as a jump in GPU, coupled with much more RAM and some SSD storage that $500 wouldn't be too much of a stretch. Look at the price of a XB1X for example that has a 7yr old CPU in it as well as a standard 1TB HDD. It looks like the new gen consoles will have more RAM, a much newer and far more capable multi-threaded CPU etc so expecting a next gen console to be cheaper at launch than an XB1X (which still has an RRP of $500 although can be bought upto $100 cheaper) - albeit a year from now doesn't seem realistic to me at all. I would start with a $500 educated guess and go up from there - not down.
As for release date, November is perhaps the most likely based on history and a Friday release makes sense too. That gives you the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th but some maybe somewhat superstitious with releasing on Friday 13th. The 6th would be a reasonable shout but I think the 27th is perhaps a bit too close to Christmas leaving only a month to go - its also Black Friday weekend so 6th or 20th seem the most likely - if I was to make an educated guess...
Point is, with reasoned argument and historical evidence, its very easy to say the PS5 (or Xbox Scarlett too for that matter) will release on Nov 20th for $500.
@Porco The lack of a 'Pro' model at launch is irrelevant to the cost of the next gen hardware. Its about looking at the hardware specs that we know about already, looking at the current cost of existing hardware and realistically contemplating the price. The current 'best' (in terms of hardware at least) is the XB1X and that costs more than $400 now so adding more RAM, much better and newer CPU, better/newer GPU and of course SSD (which is a LOT more expensive than traditional HDD) isn't somehow going to cost less - even a year from now.
Sony won't want to take a massive hit on the price even if they do have PS+ subs. If games go up massively - and $10 is still quite a jump - that could mean that people become more selective and buy fewer - especially new release games - opting to wait for the inevitable drop in prices to at or below current game prices. Its no guarantee they will get their money back.
Launch price is the highest price you will expect to see that specific hardware spec console to be and will drop over time. The PS4 wasn't $400 for years and 3yrs later, introduced the Pro at that price point. There is NO indication that a PS5 'Pro' will be necessary either where as the current gen released without the ability to be ready for 4k era - that would be like releasing the PS3 for CRT TV's and then releasing a PS3 'Pro' for HD TV a few years later. Point is, if the PS5 is capable of seeing out 6yrs (and more) running at an adequate level for the displays in peoples homes, then a Pro is not necessary. Both the Pro and the X really upgraded the GPU purely to push the resolution up for 4k displays and the CPU had a 'small' boost in speed but barely anything compared to GPU boost. Why many games still can't run at 60fps even at 1080p.
@BAMozzy fair points, but i still don't see it releasing at more than $400 usd. sony will be willing to take a loss on the hardware at launch, which was the norm back with the ps2 and ps3. i do beleive ps+ revenue does change the situation considerably and does allow sony to lose $100 per sonsole sold for the first year or two of production. sony would rather increase its market share and sell consoles at a good pace, than alienate people with the high barrier to entry. also, sony really needs to get in on the elite controller idea since there are MASSIVE margins it can gain from selling such a product which again, will offset some of its initial hardware losses. the competition is more fierce now than it has ever been — it would be foolish for sony to make the consumer pay more than expected since it is sony who is fighting for YOU to stay in its ecosystem and not the other way around. we all know microsoft will do whatever it takes to stay relevent and that could also mean a cheaper price point than what sony is offering (if sony does go the $500usd route).
and just to clariffy, i meant to say that sony will offer a ps5 pro bundle of sorts (maybe pro is not the right word to use since it will result in confusion), but that would not include a console that is more poweful. the pro bundle would just include an elite controller and more storage. yea, i think sony is better off saving the real pro model if it deems one necessary for 2023.
Up to 499 they have a Day 1 buy from me. I can get some cash for my PS4 as a trade-in.
If higher - launch titles need to be amazing (and a decent schedule after launch). If not, I'll just survive with my PC till price comes down a bit.
Why even run this story?
@FullbringIchigo
I doubt it. Dont remember how Sony staff high five one another when he announced the xb1 price? Truth is you never know until its officially announced
Besides Sony said themselves they are looking into it right now
@JJ2 i suppose so but given that the 2 systems are running on the same tech i'm sure the people at MS can come up with an educated guess based on how much the XB1 is going to cost
@FullbringIchigo
Well tbh I'm nobody and cant really pretend I kn8w better but it's common knowledge the companies maybe willing to sell the console at a loss so it's not that obvious imo
Fake News until Sony announces it. Why would they even set a price a year before launch!
This just in, the internet is full of BS. Shocking.
Btw I'm guessing it will be $599 at least.
My guess is that he's wrong; which gives me a fairly good chance of being right, right?
Cant wait too hear the outraged people claiming Sony lied in a few months when it turns out more expensive. 😆
PSErebus is a joke!
