EA's approach to the latest Need for Speed game has been slightly unusual. Ahead of E3, developer Ghost Games revealed it's working on the next instalment in the racing series, and that it'll launch in 2019, but that it wouldn't be present at the Los Angeles trade show. We're mere months away from the supposed release of this game, but haven't seen head nor tail of it. However, it seems that's all about to change.
A countdown timer on the official Need for Speed webpage suggests we'll be getting the first information about the new game in a couple of days. To be precise, we should see some kind of reveal on Wednesday 14th August at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST.
We imagine we'll probably get a title and a brief teaser, with more to follow during Gamescom later in the month.

wheres DeadSpace remaster? screw NFS
The police chases used to be great in this game, I hope they manage to get it right this time.
@pimpjuice I know right.i love dead space.im still playing dead space 2.we need a dead space 4 on ps5 launch.word up son
One of my most keenly awaited games of the year.
Can't wait to see what Wednesday brings but mostly hope for being able to be a police officer and chase others.
Awesome, got a reminder set can't wait!!
With EA in charge it'll be a Need For Greed and all your money!
hot pursuit remaster please :>
I liked Payback & Most Wanted U. Not as great at the Underground series but a good shout out. I really hope this new one is good & improves upon Payback. Currently Driver SF is the best driving game I've played in last 10 years & I still play it on Steam. Bold claim? No. Was it fun? Totally.
With Ghost Games still at the helm, I'm not expecting much.
@MaseSco Driver SF was criminally underrated . Had a blast playing that one as well!
well when it comes to EA nothing good they successfully killed all their games and studios. whats left will go down same path in few years.shame though lot of good studios and games all f**** because of EA greed they need more out of everything it never works in long run people will realize one way or other things will go south and i hope someone better will get hold of those studios and games later.
@RogerRoger dont forget about pre order bonus exclusive tire smoke.
Last one I bought was Shift on PS3. Not really interested in the street racing and police chase nonsense.
Need for Speed: The Surprised Mechanic
The thing is, the franchise is so hit and miss. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a great example on PS4, but Hot Pursuit and to a lesser extent Most Wanted on PS3 were great. The Vita port of the latter was a mini miracle, too. It's easy to assume this new game will fail to impress, but we know basically nothing about it.
I'm very curious to see the reveal on Wednesday.
Leave out the speed card system this time EA
Hope this is good.
I'd sure like a new excellent Need For Speed game, but I don't trust EA to deliver that.
@MaseSco I loved that game too, always been a fan of the driver games.
All your first laps in a race are free-to continue you must fuel up at our EA pitstop for $2!
@playstation1995 @pimpjuice I loved Dead space 1 and 2. Wasn't a fan of the 3rd though. Just couldn't get into it.
I do love the NFS series, but it's been struggling for well over a generation. Partly gameplay, mostly EA micro-cr*p. I really hope this new game is back to the days when NFS was up there with the best of the driving games.
I feel the need...
...the need for a good racer this time ffs!
Hey @Robocod you seen James Pond recently?!
I really liked Hot Pursuit and Rivals. Rivals was just plain fun to play, but very game since then has been a disaster. Cops and racers with less of an open world focus is what the series needs. We need those intense races where people play as the cops again.
@redd214 absolute blast. Driver SF needs either a sequel (preferably) or a remaster.
@East76landS I never did play 3 or Parallel Lines, but I will play the latter soon. I thought the first was amazing when that came out. Ah.... Memories.
As a fan of NFS, I would say that I am waiting to see the new game in the series, but, unfortunately, I cannot say that I am looking forward to it.
Well, I have said this somehow before and I repeat it, for my NFS with Underground it was a change, I don't say it's bad, but personally I don't like it, only Most Wanted and Carbon were the ones I enjoyed; but it was not until Hot Pursuit 2010 when I again enjoyed the series with pleasure, unfortunately the damage was done (almost all online, almost nothing for offline), Most Wanted 2012 and Rivals were the last ones to enjoy well; I didn't try 2015 and Payback, even though I am willing, but, since I see how EA has ruined the franchises, not only in its gameplay, but with "everything online" and microtransactions, well, I don't know what to expect from the new NFS, but being optimistic, I hope it is a great thing.
@Dodoo I was aware of there being a robocod game on ps3/ps4(??), but like Superfrog on ps3,read of those versions lacking the charm of the amiga originals. Loved the original James Pond too!
I'm so far beyond ever trusting EA again... This will most likely be another live service, surprise mechanic, hollow excuse of a game. A shallow, uninspired endorphin pumper for the instant-gratification-generation, that loses its luster shortly after the first pre-orders roll in.
