The team of Yooka and Laylee brought classic 3D platforming back to the masses with the suitably named original adventure, Yooka-Laylee, back in 2017, but the twosome is switching things up for their next outing. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a 2.5D side-scroller, and it's coming to PS4 later this year.
Accessed via a 3D overworld, you'll jump into a whole host of colourful levels from a perspective more akin to the platformers of today. "In this new platforming adventure hybrid, Yooka and Laylee must combine their abilities to take on a series of challenging and vibrant 2.5D levels, and explore and solve puzzles in a beautiful 3D overworld. It’s on them to rescue Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettalion Guard from each level, as they size up Capital B’s most dastardly challenge yet – the Impossible Lair."

looking good.kind of donkey Kong tropical freeze gameplay.i like it.word up son
Looks better than the last one.
It looks decent, but I won't lie: I'm incredibly disappointed that this is yet another mostly 2D platformer.
The first game might have had some level design issues, but it did a pretty good job capturing the N64-era 3D collectathon vibe.
Seems like a bit of a back step doesn't it? I thought these guys would be more ambitious.
Sounds like Tropical Freeze. Therefore I like it.
At least the game won't be filled with excessively large, empty worlds so that's a plus.
Anyways, the game looks like fun.
Doesn't look too bad, this.
My first reaction to seeing it be a 2D platformer was meh, but I'm on board again now. This could be good.
Imagine it being similar to the recent Donkey Kong Country games.
Seems alright, but I would have preferred a 3D game. There seems to be a lot more 2D platformers in recent years than 3D ones, so this game is going to have to be really special to stand out. If it's as mediocre as the first Yooka Laylee then it'll quickly get forgotten agout.
Eh..... I would have preferred a spiritual successor to Conker starring a drunk bee or something.
Hopefully better than the first
@Ralizah I think the 2,5D can work. Look at Rayman the 2D are way better then the 3D ones. And i think it looks great. 😁 😃
@kyleforrester87 It better and more fun i think the gameplay looks more solid too. 😁
@Flaming_Kaiser it looks fun enough, but it’s a bit safe I think. The last game they made had its flaws but showed potential, this almost looks a bit like they are ...admitting defeat? That said, they are a small team, I’m sure they enjoy the freedom of making what they want to make and they must be passionate about this so fair play to them.
@kyleforrester87 Maybe this is make some safe money for their next game. Small team and studio small funds maybe next game.
