Update: Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered is indeed coming to PS4. It's currently down for a "Fall 2019" release date.
Original story: Well, someone at Bandai Namco is probably in big trouble. Basically all of the publisher's plans for E3 2019 have leaked over the last hour or so at the time of writing, and they ain't stopping yet. PlayStation 3 role-playing title Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch appears to be getting a current-gen remaster. Platforms haven't been confirmed yet, but we assume it'll be released on PlayStation 4.
The game was well received back on Sony's last-gen console, boasting a stunning art style and a charming story. With a few thoughtful gameplay tweaks, it could be well worth a revisit on PS4.

This is one of the stupidest remasters I've seen so far. The game has brilliant visuals on PS3, don't see the need for a remaster at all
@AFCC I'm guessing it will be multiplatform. Otherwise why remaster it. But I didnt play it on PS3 and all I heard about Ni no kuni 2 was that it's not as good as the 1st game.
Yeah, i feel that games with this kind of art style don't really need remastering. The game was already gorgeous, boyo.
I think someone at Bandai Namco was fired and is leaking everything on his way out.
@3Above The story is way better in the first but I like the gameplay in two more.
@Splat Iv played 2 and enjoyed it. So I might actually get this Remaster. Visually it probably didnt need it but I wont say no.
Why could this possibly need a remaster, they already chose an art style that won't age
You guys realise that the purpose of releasing a remaster isn't just so it looks nicer, right?
@3Above I liked the first one better honestly! But the second is good
Sorry for double post.
@ShogunRok what are they going to do? Completely rework gameplay mechanics that worked perfectly fine?
I only bought a replacement PS3 to play this... and then this happens.
When it rains... lol
@AFCC How about sell it to a potentially new audience...?
Meh... I played both already.
But we got 2 new games from Bandai Namco that look great. Everyone gets something.
Own it played it Beat it And Platinumed it so i don't really need to buy it again but its nice for people who didn't play it the first time around
Oh heck yeah I’m hyped!!! I still have my steelbook for the PS3 version so this disc is def going into it and will look nice next to my ni no kuni 2 steelbook.
Yes! I've wanted to play this one for years now.
@AFCC How about those of us who don't own a PS3? I don't think you're the target demographic for this remaster.
Yeeeeeeessss!!
I heard the first one is better than the sequel so I’m interested in this remaster.
Sold. I love the first. Im playing the second at the moment and it just lacks some of the magic. And my god i miss drippy.
I guess its going multi-platform if its being announced at E3.
Now if we can just get ports of MGS4 and Tokyo Jungle, all my regrets about never getting a PS3 will be gone forever.
meh. this is only for those who never owned a ps3 i guess. i think it is very late to be releasing this now... 5 years too late, guys.
@Ralizah konami would never bother to invest money in mgs ever again. purchasing a used ps3 for $50 is totally worth the investment for mgs iv alone. might be able to stream it on ps now as well.
I played the second, haven’t play the first so this will be a good little addition to the library
This was the best game on PS3 for me and I will definitely be getting the remaster, gameplay wise it was practically perfect so not much work really needs to be done. I've just started playing the second game which is really good but it just makes you wish you were playing the first one instead at times, it just has a much better story and of course Drippy
I'd get it for the switch if it was ported. Loved the original, the sequel had some pretty bad writing though.
Excellent, I missed out on the PS3 and was bummed out about missing this game because of it.
@Porco i think i would disagree now given Ps5 is confirmed to be fully backwards compatible. Even if i don't play now, I'm glad to know I'll have the option in a couple of years. Apparently it's also coming to switch which is where i suspect the main thinking is
@tameshiyaku Apparently it is. PS4/PC & Switch
Can't wait, still need to jump back into 2 and persevere through skirmishes in order to beat the final boss. Never got the chance to play the first one!
Some peeps who will be playing this for this first time are going to absolutely buzz off Mr Drippy.
Yeah, I don't own a PS3, so I'd definitely get this. Bring it on!
@ApostateMage playing the second now. Lofty pales in comparison. Doesnt help that there is hardly any voice acting
Let's be honest: it's getting a remaster to sell it to owners of a certain handheld system, and they're porting it to the PS4 as well because why not. RPG's work incredibly well on the Switch because you can play them on a bus and they aren't graphically intensive or need a lot of fast reactions.
@ApostateMage
Mr Drippy! How do you know my wife's nickname for me??
Oh, it's a character in the game too...
@AFCC not really I’m excited as hell to own this on PS4. I’ve been wanting to play this for the last few years and didn’t feel like getting my PS3 out of storage
@ShogunRok they will charge a hefty price for no changes at all and that's what bothers me most. 20 or so is the only reasonable price...
They won't change much (honestly Ni no Kuni 2 art style and graphics are pretty much similar)...
I think the industry is going crazy with remasters...
@Futureshark is that what she calls you when the kids have gone to bed 😜👌
The ninja theory leak is a let down amongst all the info. Leave it to MS to take that studio to make a 4v4 online melee mp lol. They are so out of touch
@AFCC Can you please buy me a PS3 so I can play the original version?
I don't have a PS3, so this is rather good news for me.
@AFCC I get where you're coming from but if they think there's profit in remastering a game then they're gonna do it. And to be fair, Ni no Kuni's not a terrible choice for a remaster. It was well received but it didn't sell brilliantly. At least it gets a second chance to impress. Plus, it means both Ni no Kuni games are on one platform, which is nice I suppose.
@AFCC Please are you serious this would be awsome i would love too play this classic on the PS4. And there are a lot of people who didnt have a PS3 can now play it i dont see the issue here.
@Nyne11Tyme I cant believe they are doing this that would be so stupid.
@Porco I would love too see a Silent Hill 2/3 by blue point or even better a Legend of Dragoon remake.
Get the eff in!
@Flaming_Kaiser sure, hope more people can find and play this awesome game! But for us players that played it on PS3 this will be a fake remaster!
@ShogunRok but that's not a remaster almost, they will just release the game on a different platform, right? I hope you can understand what I mean.
@andreoni79 get ps now for 15 bucks and play it lol
@dark_knightmare2 happy you can enjoy it.
@Ralizah why slap it as a 'remaster' and not a rerelease? And hey I'm not against more people playing this...but just wait until they start remastering ps4 games on ps5...
@AFCC Because it likely supports higher resolutions and might even run at a higher or more consistent framerate, I'm sure. Same reason all of the last-gen remasters Playstation has gotten have been billed as "remasters."" Why suddenly draw an arbitrary line in the sand with this release?
And I'm sure plenty of people will be happy to play their PS4 games on more capable next-gen hardware. Sort of like how GTA V on PS4, no?
@Ralizah I'm just saying the first game aged very well! There are ps3 games that didn't
@AFCC I can barely finish a game per month because lack of free time so PS Now is not good for me. It could end up with me having to pay € 30 for streaming a game, playing it only once, while with the some money I could buy a retail copy, playing it whenever I want etc...
@Flaming_Kaiser an ip from konami is probably the most unlikely to ever happen... but how about a silent hill 1 remake from the ground up? i have played MANY ps1 jrpg's in my day, but legend of dragoon is one i couldn't get into. not sure what it was — perhaps the battle system didn't agree with me — having to click at precise intervals got a little repetitive after a while. but i would certainly be willing to give it another shot. a legend of dragoon remake might not be so crazy if sony wants to test the waters and one day dive back into the jrpg genre. if you think about it, that is one of the blind spots of its 1st party offerings, so it would be incredible to see a legend of dragoon sequel one day!
@AFCC TLOU on PS3 aged pretty well, though, don't you think? Yet it was also remastered.
It's partially about bringing the game to a wider audience (a LOT of people never owned a PS3), and partially meant to exploit the advantages of newer technology to bring new life to a beloved classic.
So far, it looks like you'll have a mostly straight port of the PS3 version for the Switch (the benefit of that obviously being full portability) and a remaster with increased resolution and performance on PS4/PC.
@MrGawain if this were true in the slightest then they'd all just be ports. But PS4 and PC are getting a remaster which means they're putting in the little extra effort for those.
@BridgeToClarity lol. Waste of money....
@Porco I loved it better gameplay then FF7 turnbased style i loved that you had used to hit the square for extra damage the transformations. I loved the story i just loved it. If you ever have the chance try Koudelka and Legend of Legaia plus Parasite Eve 2. 😃
@Ralizah I know im kinda giddy that the PS5 can play those older games i have so many left too play. And i never finished the game i had too much of a backlog and you know what happens if you get a new console. 😔
Yes im ashamed.
@Flaming_Kaiser funny you mention parasite eve 2 as i just bought a copy yesterday! loved the first one. i have access to every playstation game via my psp or ps classic, so i will try all those games you mentioned at some point.
@AFCC I did not see anything yet did you?
@Porco Koudelka a gothic horror classic turnbased RPG no idea if you like it but i loved it.
Day one purchase for me - this news has absolutely made my week as I love a good turnbased Jrpg and Ni No Kuni is one of my alltime favourites!
