Is Cyberpunk 2077 really a PlayStation 4 title? That's a question that's been asked since the game was first announced years ago, and we've never really been given a concrete answer. It's the kind of thing where only a confirmed release date would clear it up completely.
However, CD Projekt Red has always said that it's aiming for current-gen hardware, and it does indeed look like the game will land on PS4. How do we know this? Well, with E3 just hours away, ads are being plastered around the Los Angeles event, and Cyberpunk 2077 has a particularly eye-catching poster.
Snapped by Geoff Keighley himself, the poster's pretty cool, but it's the fine print at the bottom that's the real meat of this story. If you zoom in on the bottom left, you can clearly see three platforms listed: Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
Does this mean that Cyberpunk 2077 isn't a PS5 game after all? Well, not really. Assuming the open world role-playing title launches next year, we can absolutely see it being a cross-gen release, even if the PS4 version arrives months in advance of the PS5's launch.
Did you always expect Cyberpunk 2077 to come to PS4? Do you think it'll get a release date at E3? Go watch the excellent E3 2018 trailer for the hundredth time in the comments section below.

I'll get it for both PS4 and PS5 because let's face it, I will be playing this game at least 20 times.
@ApostateMage You can play as the male V on one and the female on the other.
@Splat I just can't do that. Given the choice of gender in games, I'll always play as a female. I blame Mark Meer's performance as broShep in Mass Effect.
I wonder if you buy the PS4 version and get a PS5 does the PS4 version upgrade to the PS5 version or does it still play as the PS4 version?
Not sure if anyone gets what I'm trying to say so sorry.
@RawnDawn you mean you wonder if it's a cross buy with PS4 and ps5? I doubt it but that would be cool.
@Genejoke Well I mean, the PS5 is going to let you play your PS4 games right? So will it upgrade it or make you pay like $10 to get the PS5 version.
When the PS4 came out you can pay $10 (I think) to upgrade your PS3 game to PS4 but since the PS5 is backwards compatible will it just upgrade it without a cost or force you to play the PS4 version even on the PS5.
Sorry I just suck at trying to explain things xD
Tbh I thought E3 started next weekend lol. Just shows how uninterested I am without Sony's involvement.
@ApostateMage Yeah, I play as a female 90% of the time when giving a choice.
I always play as a man when given a choice in video games.and that poster of v looks great.i love the name v .remind me of the greatest 📺 tv show ever v the minie series aka v the final battle.1983 playa.word up son
If they're advertising the game on PS4 and Xbox One, I think it means it's coming soon-ish. I still think there'll be a PS5 version, but I don't think they'd advertise the platforms if it wasn't imminent.
@get2sammyb 2019 soon-ish or 2020 soon-ish?
@ApostateMage My reason is a little bit different i rather look at a lady. And lets be honest i will never get a sixpack. 😁
Cool. I'll likely be nabbing this whenever it releases. Never played a CDProjektRed game before, but I'm an absolute sucker for cyberpunk settings.
alot people are complaining about this game is first person and not having option to use 3rd person instead first person like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 4
I'm expecting a PS5 version too or maybe just a patch to take advantage of it assuming that's possible. They have said PS5 will run games better than the Pro does so maybe they'll just have an unlocked framerate option that the PS5 will basically fix. Having said all that I doubt I could wait any longer to play this so I'll likely get it at launch
I have had no doubt that it would come to current gen hardware. There is the fact that scalability of a game can make any new game run on 'weak' hardware - you just have to look at the Switch with games like Doom and Wolfenstein running on hardware that has a GPU that isn't as powerful as the difference between a PS4 and an Xbox One.
Granted they cut the frame rate in half to allow double the time for the GPU to render a frame but the point is that games these days can be scaled down to the available hardware specs. The whole generation has been showing how games scale from the 4k/60fps high end PC version down to 720p/30fps (and lower in the case of the Switch undocked). The PS4 was able to run the Witcher 3 at 1080p/30 and if Cyberpunk 2077 is more demanding, CDPR can use dynamic resolution to cope as other developers do. Can tweak a few settings, reduce the draw distance of certain aspects, reduce the LoD's too. It could still release as a '1080p' game on PS4 with Dynamic resolution that only hits 1080p if you standstill and look at a wall 2" in front of your face and in general game-play, holds around 900/30 (720/30 on XB1) but scale up to 4k high settings with a minimum of 60fps on the highest end PC's. Its all about scalability of games as well as techniques like Chequerboard rendering to make games look like they are running at higher resolutions.
If you are expecting it to run at a native 1080/60 on a base PS4, I think that is unrealistic and will certainly be scaled down/capped to 30fps. We will have to see how they scale the visuals down to run on these ageing machines - at least the PS4 will be better than the XB1...
@ApostateMage tbh given we still not gotten answer officially on if sonys new push for censorship will effect the game ill wait few days after launch to determine if i get ps or xbox version
Hope it has a cheap upgrade to ps5 option for those of us that buy it for ps4 day one
@Cargan Sony won't censor Cyberpunk. It's an adult orientated title. They censor things that will have an appeal to children, ie. with cartoon style art, or contain what can be perceived as children. Hence nearly every act of censorship being aimed at Japanese games with their predilection for bordering on paedophilia.
I willing to wait till next gen release of the game.., dont want to experience it on this gen (possibly fighting with framerate issues and loading times)
Cd project probably knows, some will consider waiting for the next gen version ofc.., so to push sales, better if they didnt acknowledge next gen versions till shortly before the next gen console releases (hopping they can double sales)
its a bit cheap if Cd project red..., but understandable too
unless the ps4 version will take big advantages on the ps5..
but as its going to be one of the last and most advanced ps4 games to date.., dunno how / if it will run on the ps5..
unless they preped it for running on ps5 too (like the 1st ps4 pro games were preped back than)
still want a full ps5 version, fully using the ps5 power atm
