We don't even have official confirmation of this year's Call of Duty entry yet, but the rumour mill is already swirling about what to expect out of the 2020 iteration. According to Kotaku's Jason Schreier, the three studios that hand the franchise over to one another - giving each a three year development time - is to be scrapped next year in favour of Treyarch's Black Ops 5.
The 2020 entry was originally supposed to be developed by Raven Studios and Sledgehammer in tandem, but Schreier's sources have indicated that there is tension between the two teams after numerous arguments lead to fallouts. Now, the two developers will serve as support teams for Treyarch.
Furthermore, the Kotaku report goes on to say that next year's Call of Duty will feature a single player campaign, and it'll take place during the Cold War. Raven and Sledgehammer had been putting a huge amount of time and effort into the single player project, but Treyarch now has creative lead after the shakeup.
It's a drastic change to the franchise, one that has been working since 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - which kicked off the three developer campaign. And while this isn't outright confirmation, Jason Schreier's track record speaks for itself. It looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 will release sooner than we think, across both PS4 and a next-gen version on PS5.
What do you make of all this? Are you excited for another Black Ops title next year? Pray for the return of Blackout in the comments below.

At least it sounds like it will have a single player unlike the last one.
Single player focus would be nice.
I will take this with a grain of salt
Only real reason I like Raven Studios is because they're the only game developers in my state of Wisconsin.
What a waste. Stopped after infinite warfare which the campaign was awesome!
@Choppaz Im guessing it would involve the conflicts that happened as part of the Cold War such as Korea, Cuba, Indochina and Afghanistan.
Make an actual single player campaign. No reason it needs to be one or the other.
I wanted too have a singleplayer campaing so bad and then i started thinking why i dont even want to buy the games anymore. Its just too much seasonpass, seasonalpas, microtransactions, megatransaction (2,50) for a dot. Warner Bros is also sinking its claws into MK. Killing it with microtransactions and a grind they removed after the backlash. Even the towers are online only i heard. The fun thing with Injustice and MK10 was that they where still playable without the connection. And farming for items.... 😑 😔
