Sakura Wars is a bit of a cultural phenomenon in Japan, but you’d be forgiven for not knowing about the old SEGA Saturn series. There were sequels on PlayStation platforms, but the dating-sim-cross-JRPG has been largely absent for the best part of 15 years. Now it’s set to make a return on the PlayStation 4, with Project Sakura Wars due out this Winter in Japan, and Spring 2020 in Europe and North America.

“With its strong emphasis on character-driven storytelling and relationship building, fans will find plenty to love with Project Sakura Wars,” the blurb reads. The full game will feature mech battles and dialogue aplenty, powered by a system named LIPS, which will apparently have a “profound impact” on what happens both in and out of battle. This game’s got Robert Ramsey’s name written all over it, to be honest. Why isn’t he writing this article?
