As you might've been expecting, Devil May Cry 5 has made a strong start in Japan, coming in atop the software chart by some margin. It sold just over 100,000 copies in its first three days, putting it comfortably in the lead, but it's actually a low point for the series in terms of launch week sales. Devil May Cry 4 sold about double when it launched on PS3 in 2008, and the figures only increase as you trace the history of the franchise. Still, these numbers only reflect physical sales, and it's likely the new entry will have sold a fair amount on digital stores.
Elsewhere, Dead or Alive 6 slips all the way down to 11th place, and other PlayStation 4 releases struggle to make much of a dent lower down the top 20.
In terms of hardware, PS4 fares a little better than last week, selling a total of about 32,000 units. Not much to write home about, then, as per usual. Check out the full rundown below.

"Capgod"....100k facepalm. Japan really dont like these genres of games. Not even the one from platinum sells. These numbers is not excellent, just mediocre. Look at KH and RE, easily topped 300 - 500k within similarly on the first 2 - 3 days.
Sheesh what's the taste of jap gamers? Must it be waifus, 2B or Idols, gachas and some weird creature??
@Cpt_Price Not really. Not at all, I'd say, as much I would have liked it to be true.
🇯🇵 Japan may cry 5 and a half 🙊word up son
Amazes me how the switch does so well when it literally has no games bar Zelda worth playing
Im surprised you guys/gals havent posted about judgement being pulled yet. Good for DmC though. I will get this for sure
@Nyne11Tyme because it hasn't. they haven't made a decision yet for the west. still, this site should have posted about the news hours ago.
@Cpt_Price surprised you didn’t trade it in and bought more PS4 games...
@QualityGeezer well, "worth playing" is very subjective.
@3Monthbeef yeah I appreciate the Japanese are very loyal to Nintendo and that a lot of people enjoy various Nintendo franchises Mario etc but for me they have nothing to rival PlayStation and even Xbox exclusives.
@Flaming_Kaiser They take drug charges very seriously over there. The game might actually be straight up pulled... .
I really hope that's not the case. One of the few games I'm looking forward to this year.
It’s always gonna be Nintendo first, Sony second for me, but again, to each their own.
@Flaming_Kaiser boosted the game to #1 on amazon japan haha
@manu0 😃 The game deserves it. 😃
wonder what caused the PS4 hardware sales to increase by so much. Did they have a price drop ?
Great to see DMC 5 get off to a strong start. Hopefully it does big business in North America as well.
very bloody game and very scary, I don't understand how my child plays it (
Hopefully Sony can come up with some nifty technology that will make PS5 gaming somehow portable without sacrificing the horsepower. Seeing the success of Switch, and what Xbox is doing with all the streaming/BC features it's going to be super interesting how Sony intends to respond in the coming generation.
