With Rockstar at the helm, you just know that the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to be worthy of admiration. The developer's promising a roaring return to the Wild West, complete with dangerous wilderness, dust bowl settlements, and sparkling cities. Indeed, if there's one thing these latest screenshots show, it's that larger stretches of civilisation will play a more prominent role this time around.
The original Red Dead Redemption had its towns, but it'd be generous to call them cities or anything close. In the sequel, we've got the likes of Saint Denis, which looks to be a sprawling, built-up location that even has its own tram system.
From snowy mountains to lush heartlands, this is looking like an open world that we can't wait to explore. Here's hoping that Rockstar can recapture the charm and polish of the first game's fantastic setting.

Not long now! Can't wait for this one.
It's getting closer....
Photo Mode or bust.
Hopefully they'll have patched one in by the time I get around to playing this in, ooh... mid-2021.
Nice screens with the old grainy and faded look. Larger towns with more life, detail, and npc's is one of the features i have desired for RDR2.
Hopefully the hype machine that was Spider-Man will die down once this releases
@RogerRoger Waiting for a complete PS5 remaster port collection?
Where's the next gameplay trailer?
@QualityGeezer What Spider-Man has with RDR 2? You haters are hilarious, kinda sad too tbh. Talking about RDR 2 and the article, the game looks great.
@QualityGeezer agreed, Spiderman is the worst!!!
this is creeping up
@Bagshot Yep, pretty much exactly how I'm feeling. This is a lot more tempting than Spider-Man, which has combat out of an early 2000s 3D platformer by the looks of it, but at the end of the day I'm gonna be dashing towards the nearest icon on the minimap and engaging in some decent but unspectacular 3rd person gunplay. All the pretty graphics in the world can't change that.
The main attraction is it being a great icebreaker game to show people when I go back to uni in October.
@KidBoruto No, waiting for when I'll actually be interested in playing this game.
@RogerRoger oh ho ho burn lol. I still need to play the first game, waiting for a PS4/PS5 port.
@KidBoruto I got a cheap PS3 copy and played it earlier in the year, and it didn't blow me away (possibly because it hasn't aged terribly well in some departments). With so few Westerns available, however, I reckon it'd be worth your time if you're looking for some cowboy action, even moreso if there were a remaster for current consoles.
@RogerRoger I already own Red Red Redemption on PS3 and still have my PS3, but the controller is so damn tiny...if only my PS3 could recognize PS4 controllers.
@KidBoruto I often think the same, but after a few minutes it's like slipping on an old pair of shoes. I reckon you'll be fine, and it's probably worth checking out to see what all the fuss is about.
@RogerRoger Sigh you do have a point, and it's not like they'll be remastering/porting over the game anytime soon.
@KidBoruto Chin up; you may end up loving the game!
@RogerRoger I have no doubt I'll love the game, my disappointment is with having to get used to the PS3 controller again.
Not to mention the PS3 graphics will be a downgrade for me after playing so many PS4 games now.
@KidBoruto But then imagine how amazing RDR2 is gonna look after you've gotten used to old PS3 graphics again? That's gonna be a huge leap forward!
Sorry, I'm relentlessly optimistic.
@RogerRoger Darn you, thanks for lifting my spirits !
I'll consider playing RDR on PS3 if we don't get a PS4 port announcement by Christmas.
