Perhaps one of the most exciting announcements of this week is this new multimedia remote control for PS4, known as the Cloud Remote. Seemingly only available in the US, the Cloud Remote is essentially a universal TV remote that is compatible with the console's various media apps, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu.
According to a new post on the PlayStation Blog, you'll be able to quickly and easily program the remote via a downloadable app to keep it up to date with the PS4's multimedia offerings. "The Cloud Remote for PS4 programs your remote for you. Programming the remote is straightforward with the downloadable PDP Cloud Remote App, which uses advanced Cloud technology to auto-detect devices connected to the PS4 for hassle-free remote programming. It’s super easy."
It connects via Bluetooth to your PS4, and boasts controls for powering on your TV and setting the volume as well as for endlessly browsing Netflix for something good to watch. You can pre-order it now, and if you do, you get a 30-day trial of PlayStation Vue's Core plan, which is a nice bonus.
Will you be shelling out for a Cloud Remote, or is the DualShock 4 good enough for your app scrolling needs? Don't change the channel in the comments below.

Definitely going to look into it.
@Kidfried Sony is so strange Europe is a Playstation region and they still leave us in the cold a lot of the time. 😓
Its PDP so I wouldn't expect much out of it.
I would be happy with a remote for my PS4 thats as good as the remote for my PS3. Unfortunately the only officially licensed PS4 remote that is available right now, falls short.
I wish companies other than PDP got into this game.
Yeah definitely going to order this. Already use Vue so getting a remote for $30 and getting a month of Vue that's worth $50 is a no brainer!
Preordered through Amazon. If it's great, great! If not, I'll return it and enjoy my Vue trial. Win/win!
@redd214 Be mindful of the asterisk *. It says "for new users only". I'm assuming, guessing, that means it's only for people who have never tried PS Vue before. Which probably isn't many considering all of the free trial promotions they've offered in the past.
I may order it from Amazon anyway and if I don't get the free month just shipping it back to Amazon. They are pretty good with letting me return the occasional item. And I can't remember if I've ever signed up or not. Thought about it alot, but it's kind of expensive. And they don't, or didn't, have CW, and that's my most watched channel. But I'll take a $0 month along with a remote, we do watch a lot on PS4, streaming and discs.
@rjejr yeah I read that. Will just activate the voucher on a one of kids' accounts and turn the main one off for a month
Pre-order a tv remote. What's next, pre-order a subscription service.... Oh wait.... DC Universe is a thing 🤣😂
That’s late in it’s life, ps3 had one after a year I think. Bought it with my ps3, never opened it. Got €25 for it at CEX last year.
@redd214 I thought about that too, but my kids accounts are set up in the UK and Japan and Vue doesn't exist there. Someday they'll make US accounts, probably when they are older.
FYI to everyone, PDP had a similar looking remote a year ago, $24 on Amazon now, so don't order the wrong one by mistake. ☺ This one releases September 18th.
@rjejr haha I actually did the same exact thing with my kids when they were really little. Setup 2 accounts in different regions to take advantage of deals and such and let them play on those. Now that they're older they have their own accounts and emails so works out
Also for anyone else in the US if you add $30 to your "Amazon Cash" account (1st time only as well) you get an extra $10 credit for free! Makes this even sweeter!!

Why not just create a remote anyone can buy that had an app on the console where you press deadicated buttons. One for netflix, YouTube etc like remotes that come with TVs that's what I would prefer, I'm fed up of going into a folder to select netflix why can't I just move that app to the main menu cause I use it loads
I had the remote for the ps2 and ps3 and loved them. But I don’t use any media on my PS4, I’ve got cable tv on a smart tv and a uhd player all with apps. Bit to late for me to care. Actually everything I own seems to have all the same apps and I think I prefer to not put the extra pressure of use on my PS4 and save it just for gaming. I’ve even got it a hard drive and gone mainly digital so I don’t use the blu ray drive often to save ware and tear.
If it would somehow control my Sky Q box I'd consider it but I can't see that somehow. The Q remote is already hooked up to the tv so don't really need another to do the same thing
I use my PS4 for TV a lot, this looks pretty good for $30 so I'm in.
You can buy a PS4 media remote in Argos for like €15, pretty sure Amazon sell them too!
I tend to just use the apps on my TV anyway, seems a bit of a waste of electricity to power on the PS4 to do what the TV already can
DA4 works fine. I don’t need to spend $30 on a fancy controller that deksnt help that much.
"uses advanced Cloud technology"
Seriously?
It's almost (American) football season, so I'm about to Vue it up! May give this a go.
I could do with a remote for the PS4. I watch a lot of Netflix and Amazon Prime from the console, and am always accidentally doing a fast forward or rewind because of the triggers. I wish they let you reconfigure the buttons, then I’d be happy using the DS4.
On a side note, has anyone noticed how every video app except Netflix have awful user interfaces? I can never find anything on Amazon by browsing, BBC iPlayer is just every kind of terrible, and all of them need about 5 presses of the circle button to pause or exit the video. They should all just copy Netflix and be done with it.
Fools and their money are easily parted
