Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy continues to perform extremely well in the UK retail chart thanks to its multiplatform release last month. This is its fourth consecutive number one since then, despite some fierce competition. LEGO The Incredibles remains in second place, with only a 7% drop in sales week on week.
But the bandicoot has also topped a couple of Xbox exclusives as they re-enter the chart thanks to Amazon Prime Day. According to GamesIndustry.biz, only 2,000 sales separate No 6 from No 1, so it was a close run race at the top end of the chart. In amongst all this is Sonic Mania Plus, which debuts in fifth place.
Here's the latest top 10.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 21st July, 2018
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- LEGO The Incredibles
- Sea of Thieves
- Minecraft: Xbox Edition
- Sonic Mania Plus

Octopath and Captain Toad died a swift death.
Sonic Mania Plus was surprising giving the PS4's dominance.
And for some reason its specifically Minecraft: Xbox Edition? How random.
@Knuckles-Fajita I think it's specifically the Xbox version because of bundles. It seems that Xbox One bundles did pretty well via Amazon Prime Day, hence the re-entries.
@Knuckles-Fajita Don’t think it was that surprising.
Switch owners are used to double dipping .
@Fight_Teza_Fight Not even that. Crash sold more on Xbox, I wouldnt think Sonic would have such a lead on Switch.
The system is certainly a complete uTurn in the UK.
@Quintumply The Xbox One does go cheap.
If only I trusted Amazon with anything eh?
Have we ever had any clarification on whether Xbox Game Pass counts as sales for these? I don't see why it should, but then again I don't see why that many (or any) would buy the game outright, when they could try it out for just a few quid.
@roe This is a physical sales chart. So, it really doesn't tell you a lot anymore about how well games are actually doing, with sales being the majority now.
You often see kiddy games do better in these sales charts, as they are often gifted and bought by non-internet-savvy parents. So... these charts are quite useles nowadays.
@Kidfried Gotcha. That makes sense, cheers
@Knuckles-Fajita I guess that settled "sony should make a traditional rpg"
I probably should buy it since I like traditional rpg like octopath traveler, it's too bad the game is out of stock on my local store. The euro, us and asia version is all gone.
@Kidfried - physical sales still massively dominate in the UK.
@wiiware The game is out of stock the world over.
I'm surprised to see sea of tears in the chart and glad that Crash and God of War are doing great
@leucocyte Physical is bigger in UK than in the rest of the world, that's true, but I don't think they 'dominate' anymore. It's closer to 50%/50%. Which means that these charts are no longer close to being representative of the gaming industry in the UK.
Games like Octopath will sell better digital than physical. Which means it's hard to abstract conclusions about how well a game is doing anymore from these charts.
@Kidfried - a report by gamesindustry.biz a few months back, based on all physical and digital sales (except bethesda and nintendo store) highlighted the reliance of physical sales for console games in the UK. it's around 80%. whilst it does vary from game to game, for example destiny 2 it was only around 63%, for Gran Turismo Sport it was 88%. Most of the games like FIFA, CoD, Battlefield, assassin's creed, etc it's more or less around that 80% mark.
almost without exception it's cheaper to buy a physical copy of a game at launch than it is digitally.. over the course of the year, the % may skew less towards physical as it's much easier to do regular sales on digital platforms (and as physical stock reduces), but the numbers are not nearly suffiicent enough to remove the dominance of disk.
@leucocyte I think that article stated 36% for the year 2017. We're now a year later, so I would expect that to be a bit higher as well. Furthermore, like you said, that's the "console market". Then there's still PC, which is pretty much fully digital. So, games like Sea of Thieves probably perform way better than this chart suggests.
Also, I think you further prove the point that these charts have become obsolete, if there's that big of a difference between the attachment rate of digital per game.
So, like I said... the digital market has reached a number of importance (even if that isn't the majority yet), that it means there's pretty much no value anymore to articles like these.
@Knuckles-Fajita The special edition is available, but I don't want it since it's expensive, I want the asia version because the price is only +- $46.
Crazy that Sea of Thieves and specifically the Xbox edition of Minecraft got such a sales boost. Guessing the UK had them discounted in store.
