The July update for Destiny 2 is out now on PlayStation 4, and it's one of the more important patches that Bungie's shooter has received in quite some time. Ahead of Destiny 2: Forsaken's launch in September, the developer is trying to lay the groundwork for change, and with update 1.2.3, things seem to be heading in the right direction. Finally.
Bounties are back baby, and they're arguably the highlight of this latest patch. Okay, so their inclusion's not that exciting, but again, it's a step forward. Like the original Destiny, daily bounties simply give players a reason to come back -- something that Destiny 2 has, for many, been lacking. Both Crucible and Vanguard bounties will be made available every 24 hours, and completing them nets you faction reputation and rewards.
The update also paves the way for the game's summer event, titled the Solstice of Heroes, which begins at the end of the month, on the 31st July. Meanwhile, a load of other tweaks have been made across the board. Strikes have been adjusted, equipment has been tinkered with, and exotic masterwork catalysts can now be found through various activities like the Prestige Raid lairs. You can find the full patch notes through here.
So all in all, patch 1.2.3 houses some promise for the future of Destiny 2. Now we just have to hope that Bungie continues to push forward, and that the arrival of Forsaken really gets this whole thing back on track.

No matter what they do the game as a franchise is screwed you know why because they don't care about it's fan base, they don't care about the lore of the actually franchise its self. And to top it all off the so called DLC for both games has been medicore at best then it takes one expansion that's charged separately to make it the game it should be eg "The Taken King". I wouldn't be surprised if this September update does the same thing and if that tells you something since it's ironic it's happened for a 2nd time, it tells me to stay away even more so now and watch as with each game down the line it will be the same pattern and that pattern is making profit over substance and Destiny has none. Oh and not to mention the Eververse is just a cash milking machine because all Devs needs one now
@Nakatomi_Uk to be fair you've created a situation where Bungie just can't win. Either it's great and as you say, you lose trust with bungie for making it great. Or it's not so great and you will say Bungie failed making a great expansion. I think these kind of comments don't help games or developers at all. The expectations become unrealistic and unobtainable.
Destiny, like NBA 2k series, and other series have lost sight of what really makes developers money..... and that's consumers having fun with their game. People in mass have no problem supporting a company when they are having fun. People will even buy micro transactions as long as the fun isn't hidden behind those microtransactions. Make the game fun, keep the game fun, and you'll still make money. If you're developing a game, and cutting the fun content to sprinkle across dlc, you're failing as a developer. I rather move on from a fun game and come back, rather than never have fun from the beginning, and destiny 2 wasn't fun from the beginning.
@Cutmastavictory but Destiny 2 was, for the majority, fun from the beggining, hence all the people who got it and played it for 1-3 months, and all the great reviews.
It wasn't until after people had played it for 50,100,whatever hours that the honeymoon period wore off and people got bored.
A.B.C., it's as easy 1.2.3.
As simple as Des-Ti-Ny.
Baby you and me, girl!
It will be interesting to see the sale numbers for Forsaken and compare it to the numbers of Taken King. Put over a 1000 hours into Destiny 1 and put about 90 into Destiny 2 and just fell out of love with it. Just seemed to me Acti and Bungie were trying to get as much money out of people for as little effort as possible.
After giving them $100 day one they want another $40? No thanks. I'll just stick with The Division.
I actually enjoyed the base game of Destiny 2 but feel totally ripped off by the two expansions.
Fool me once and what not...
no update is ever good enough and with the way the article was excited about it, i was honestly expecting a kind of 1080p/60fps patch, or at least an unlocked frame rate.
so, as is with my biggest issue with the game, it can remain uninstalled. it feels absolutely horrible to play and i just cant get into it at all. I'd trade it in or sell it but lets be honest, nobody wants this rubbish game.
@kyleforrester87 if by your own admission the game had a honeymoon period that varied in length from gamer to gamer.... then the game was not fun in the beginning, people were just experiencing the illusion of fun for a while for whatever reason, that honeymoon period.
@Cutmastavictory Errr..nope a honeymoon period is a period of fun, before the fun stops.
The "illusion of fun"? It's perfectly acceptable for stuff to be good, and then get boring, you know?
Otherwise we'd still all be playing with a ball in a cup. Or ourselves. In caves.
@kyleforrester87 we don't play with a ball and cup not because it wasn't fun for that time, things more fun have come about. Its not that new things came about to stop destiny 2 being fun. We just gave bungie another chance to deliver fun and they didn't. In fact bungie went out of its way to decrease fun in the game to make things like leveling more difficult to get people to buy more microtransactions.
In short, honeymoon periods is not a period of fun, but the illusion or false reality of fun, when it wears off then you realize, you're not having the fun you thought you initially were.
@Cutmastavictory We'll have to agree to disagree there bud. New stuff came out because people got dissatisfied with the old stuff. And of course it's an illusion, it's a video game. But the fact is a lot of people enjoyed D2 on release and this is reflected in user and professional reviews. I had fun with it, but this wore off. It happens with every game I play and it is natural.
The issue with D2 and games like D2 is there is no real conclusion, no final pay off. So you can't put it down with a sense of accomplishment. It's just something that feels unfinished on your shelf, and you grow to resent it. Which is fair enough.
@Cutmastavictory
I disagree with you. Bungie had every chance to make the game right at the beginning, but they didnt. You cant just sit here and tell me that Bungie get a pass. They had three years to make Destiny 2 equal or better than Destiny 1. Instead, they tried to pull the wool over on the fans. They even admitted to many of them. They admitted to throttling progression, they admitted to rushing the game out, and they flat out lie about Eververse. I played destiny 1 for three years straight, i gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was their first game since leaving Halo. I expected some great with destiny 2, but noticed the pattern so i called it quits.
i understand its about making money, but its seems that Bungie is focused on making quick money instead of the long term investment that Fan would put into this game if they did the right thing. After Destiny 2, do you really think fans will trust Bungie and buy destiny 3?
@Kayoss I think you're disagreeing with the wrong person lol. I agree with all of this.
@Cutmastavictory
oops my bad...
Mostly irrelevant until random rolls return. Moronic design choices.
@kyleforrester87 problem was the majority that played dedtiny all year round stayed mainly for the pvp and they utterly ruined it and they got rid of inifnite loot by ditching random rolls.
To me it feels like Bungie has no idea what they are doing. Also it feels like they haven’t even had a glimpse at what made other games great. At that time they could have taken a lot of great ideas around loot and end-game content from Diablo 3, WoW and FF14. Instead it felt like they just tried to reinvent the wheel and made a lot of mistakes the other games have already solved.
I started Warframe now which made a lot better choices than Destiny it seems. I just hope Anthem will be great and I have enough to occupy myself until it’s out.
I honestly thought this game died off already lol. Seriously though, people are actually still playing this after everything the devs and Activision pulled?!
Destiny 2 players must really love being tortured if this is true O_O
