I hope that the full game allows players to invite or join friends without having to set up a private session. Also, I kinda want the option of being able to change your character's hairstyle or facepaints even after initial character creation. Other than that, I really enjoyed the beta.
Brilliant beta, brilliant game. I didn't play a massive amount as I'd honestly rather wait until the final product, but much like Resident Evil 7 this year, I expect MH World to be a very early Game of the Year candidate.
Didn't play the beta, but I'm a fan of the series and will likely buy the game as soon as it releases.
@get2sammyb "I expect MH World to be a very early Game of the Year candidate."
I'm interested to see how it'll fair especially in the West both critically and sales wise.
I loved it! I would have played a lot more if it had a save option. I changed too many options that it was too tedious to restart the game over and over. I really wanted to to try and fight Rathalos in the third mission!
Also... not to be THAT GUY but I hope it's much more difficult in the final release. All 3 of those missions were far too easy for a PlayStation Monster Hunter game...
I downloaded it, but never played. I was too busy playing with Prometheus Lens before it gets nerfed. Still, I’ll probably end up getting this based off of early impressions.
@get2sammyb
Fascinating article I ran across at Yahoo! Finance. They do flub the number of COD units sold, replacing units sold with the amount of money raised. Still, the amount of growth over the past 5 years is astounding.

I enjoyed what was there. Time limits were tedious, as was the fact that there was no tutorial whatsoever so it felt kind of overwhelming with all the mechanics.
Overall, although I enjoyed it, I may have to wait before throwing the money down to be sure, as I don’t know whether taking on hunts one after another will still be entertaining 20 hours in.
I know ill be in the minority (story of my life) but i didnt find it all that fun and i played online with 4 other friends. I wont go into too much detail unless someone asks but i prefered the "Monster hunting" in Horizon more than this beta.
Played for a bit. Nothing wrong with it but definitely not my type of game. Hope it does well tho so more can enjoy it!
Didn't play the beta, but will be buying MH World at launch.
I don't really play demos/betas- I can wait for the full game.
I'm glad that the feedback has been positive though.
Will also say, hit reg and clipping during fights really doesn’t help and just makes it more frustrating.
I was blown away by this demo. I killed all 6 monsters, with different weapons, and they felt awesome after a few hunts of getting used to the new moves. Especially ranged weapons are now way better to play.
I would have loved an exploring mode without time limit, but we'll have that in the full version.
I had high hopes that this would be a big step up in regards to my complaints about previous MH games. But nope.
Super clunky, and it somehow manages to be overly simplistic and yet overly complicated at the same time.
It's probably a good game. It's just not to my tastes. I'd much rather take down machines in Horizon.
Tried it and as others here have stated, I found the controls to be clunky. I personally found the gameplay to be rather simplistic. It's not a game for me, but I'm glad that others may like it.
I enjoyed it, not my favourite game ever but I'm going to jump in on day one and give it a good go. I always enjoy teaming up with friends to take down boss enemies so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.
I like the beta, hunting monster is fun although I don't like the time limit.
I really enjoyed it. Day one purchase for me.
That being said if Guerrilla wanted to do a Monster Hunter style DLC for HZD that would be fantastic. Those battles were brilliant.
I wanted to like it, it's the type of game I'd enjoy, but I didn't. The combat was too slow and clunky. It's not that I'm impatient, it's just that I thought it was a bit rubbish. I did like traipsing through those ambient sounding maps, though.
It's admittedly a gross oversimplification of these statistics, but my read is this — the people who previously played MH decided the beta was worth trying, really enjoyed it, and (still) plan on buying MHW.
Played a little bit of it and I liked it. I was getting it regardless if I had time for the beta or not. Day 1
Had way more fun with it than i thought i would , me and somfriends beat the diablos the dragon that burrows under the droind with 1 minute to spare, felt great, felt like one of the most epic boss fights ever
I absolutely loved the beta. I've been playing MH since 3 Ultimate around early 2012. What I loved about the beta, or at least what the beta shows us about world, are the new combos and attacks that they have added to each weapon. I also love the new focus on the environment.
What I hate about the beta is that it's not the full game ;.;
Played the beta and decided it is not for me. Shame cause i really wanted to like it, but it didnt tickle my fancy.
I found everything really cumbersome.
I loved it. It's not for everyone, though. I think it's kind of a shame how the Beta was set up, too, because people who think the game is simple are clearly just not informed on how deep the series is. With the lowered difficulty and the fact that you already have access to a decent amount of items and weapons and such, it does seem rather easy and simple.
Monster Hunter in general has way deeper combat and crafting and everything than probably any game any of you have ever played, though. When you have such a beloved series that's based almost entirely around combat, the last thing it will be is simple. Many people are turned off by the games due to them being too "hardcore" for them.
I've already given my opinion in another related article but I very much enjoyed the beta although I really was expecting some kind of tutorial and found there was a lot to take in and I'm one to get overwhelmed pretty quickly lol
The twenty minute time limit for each hunt is ridiculous and to be honest I wasn't even expecting a time limit never mind such a short one.I really hope the full game isant just twenty minute hunts.
The game looks amazing though and plays well and I'll probably buy it just not day one.
played the beta for a few hours over the weekend and I liked it. I was already planning to get the full game day 1. I know I'm going to keep using my hammer as my main but I can't decide between Long Sword or Switch Axe as my other option to cut off tails.
@Wazeddie22 If this is like the 3DS games, which I'm sure it is, then you usually get 50 minutes to complete quests.
@Wazeddie22 I think the time limit in the full game is like 50 minutes or an hour or something.
@KirbyTheVampire @Fooligan Now that sounds much better!Hope you are right.
@Wazeddie22 I think the limit is mostly there to prevent noobs from slowly chipping away at the monsters health, rather than actually fighting it and using skill.
I enjoyed it but I will wait for reviews. I had fun but some things wont be so simple in the final game, specially supplies. I liked having 10 megapotions in stock, but not the material gathering/combining involved in making them. That micromanagement is what turns me off in MH.
First time playing MH. Seen some trailers and was intrigued. First mission wasn't hard but had to get used to controls which made it more difficult due to the time limit. Still enjoyed it.
Second mission was pretty tough. Basic controls were going ok, but this wasn't enough to topple it. First go by myself and got my ass handed to me ^^. Second go with a friend. He got disconnected during the end stage and I eventually failed to kill it in time. Third go alone and emerged victorious.
Third mission I dunno what happened. I expected not being able to kill it given the hard time I had with the second. Extra challenge was the notification that the beta would end in 1 hour. Had a go and I toppled it in one go. Awesome fight!!
After completing all hunts I'm craving for more. But I'm not sure to join the fun day one. At some point I'll probably buy the game. First I need some games finished (Witcher 3, Shadow Tactics, Bastion & AC Origins).
It will be mine.
@Fight_Teza_Fight Same here, I didn't play the beta but also never played any Monster Hunter games, but I will buy it on the release date. I just hope it's a great experience as a SP game.
Good game but the acting is cringworthy.
BIG Monster hunter fan here. And I have to say, it's freaking awesome that this franchise finally gets to flex on PlayStation hardware.
And in terms of user experience and gameplay it really does feel like a true sequel to the excellent Monster Hunter 4.
@NathanUC I'm a long time Hunter and rest assured, these monsters were significantly weakened for the Beta. Monster Hunter takes a lot of discipline and there are many monsters that will absolutely destroy you and force you to go back and grind other monsters for a stronger weapon/armor set. They had to dumb down the monsters since this game is reaching a much wider user base than it did on the 3DS.
@get2sammyb i was already interested in it before playing but oh man, the beta blew me away. i got so used to the 3DS version (which i absolutely love) i couldn't believe how much detail the beta had. def a day 1 purchase for me now i can't wait!!!
@wiiware Welcome to Monster Hunter luckily there is a Free Hunt in the Full Version and the standard time is 50 Minutes
@Wazeddie22 in the full version there is a Free Hunt Mode
Quests are timed and they tend to be generous w the time
@Derpie1 50 minutes for every hunt? That's enough for me
I'll be getting this for sure.
I loved it! It feels like a genuine improvement over MH4U with elements of Mhgen mixed in. The gunlance and charge blade feel great and the bow guns are greatly improved. I might actually try gunning now. I pre-ordered the physical version and am planning a short vacation just to hunt. HELL YEAH!
@wiiware note Elder Dragons are specific in time and how you fail if they destroy something specific then fail, most times you’ll be struck down to 30 or so and some challenge quests lower the time to 20 or less... but like 90-95% of the quests are 50 mins... expect completing the game to be a nightmare
@wiiware Keep in mind that some of your quests will be spent foraging in the wild, so you won't just be hunting the monster the whole time. Still, 50 minutes is more than enough time in the majority of cases.
@Derpie1 @KirbyTheVampire It seems monhun is a deep game, can't wait to play it
Been playing this series since Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on PSP and it's fascinating to see a new audience's take on the beta. Getting into Monster Hunter early on would have been impossible without my friends explaining everything. This Beta did a much better job than any other entry so far in showing you the basics and letting you get a feel for your weapon of choice. But come on guys, 20 minutes isn't long enough? Pick up the pace! That first monster can be beaten in 3 minutes easy! The second one in 6 or 7!
It was a beautiful looking world in comparison to all those bare-bones looking 3DS games, but the gameplay felt frustratingly clunky to me. It may have been the weapons and how they make the character move that was the problem.. but it was enough of a turn off to not make new characters and try different weapons. I like fast, responsive fighting and this did not feel that way. Also, I hope we eventually stop seeing poor collision detection with the monsters and your character. Why do I still disappear inside the body of the monsters when I am faming them? The OG game on the PS2.. okay, I understand that game having that issue, I guess the PSP, curiously still in the 3DS games..but still on the PS4??
@Party_Cannon they don’t care...
If ya want fast paced combat
Master dem Dual Blades...
@Bobbytheb "They had to dumb down the monsters since this game is reaching a much wider user base than it did on the 3DS."
This is my worry with Worlds. I played each PlayStation title 200+ hours (each) until Monster Hunter 3. It was too easy and lacked too much content. I feel like the lower difficult/risk carried through most of the Nintendo releases as well. I'd hope this one is balanced more along the lines of Freedom Unite or maybe 3rd P. 3rd P was probably one of the more accessible titles without losing the risk/rewards at higher ranks.
I'm not worried about the difficulty at all. They didn't want chase off newcomers in the beta.
@Derpie1 Great!ok so I'm definitely convinced I'll be buying it at some point now.I have not tried the game with others but I'm sure the timed quests should be different depending on whether you are going solo or with a team.
@NathanUC He meant in the Beta, not the full game. I don't think anyone really knows how hard the full game will be, but I'm not concerned about that.
@Wazeddie22 actually it isn’t but the monster has more health tho and it’s slightly harder the more players you have
Really enjoyed it. It's the first time I would be buying a Monster Hunter game. Have tried the demos on 3ds and didn't like it back then mainly because I hate that kind of game on small screens. There are just certain games I need in portable devices and certain games for the big TV and this is the TV game for me. It did make me miss playing Soul Sacrifice though and I loved that on the Vita. Maybe it's just the 3DS I don't enjoy this kind of gameplay on a small screen. :S
I've played MH on my friend's Vita for a few hours before and loved it.
This iteration seems like a excellent addition to the series and I'm stoked to get to sit down with it on my big screen
I'm excited to get into crafting. It seems like the new armor skills and amulet and mantles are a really simple and in depth system to tweak your Hunter just as you want. I remember before you had to hit some kind of threshold to activate skills and limited your viable options a bit.
The depth in the combat system is appreciated, and from what I understand you can swap weapon in camp mid-mission. It'll be hard to put the insect glaive down, but it's a nice feature.
The world is beautiful, the monster interactions are great! (My little cat warrior mounted a lizard to fight the Trex with me )
I'm so excited. Character models and animations are spot on
I didn't play the beta but I did play it at PSX and I thought it was pretty fun
@STLamy There's supposed to be an actual story mode though, right @get2sammyb @ShogunRok?
@Party_Cannon @Ashkorsair @ApostateMage @Hengist @sketchturner @redd214 @3Above Same here sadly, unless there's a deep story mode like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted/Tomb Raider etc, I'll be passing on this game.
@ToddlerNaruto Yeah, it has a full story that runs through it with characters, cutscenes, dialogue, etc.
@ShogunRok Can you co-op in single player story mode?
@WanderingBullet Capcom's said it's "drop in, drop out" co-op so I would assume you'll be able to bring people into story missions with you. I also assume the story is just weaved through various quests — I doubt it's a locked off campaign.
@ShogunRok Sounds good. Thanks.
