An interesting detail in the latest Dynasty Warriors 9 information dump: any of the game's playable characters can equip and use any weapon type. This means you can have Lu Bu running about with a relatively tiny sword if you're so inclined, or you can slap an oversized mace on one of the title's more petite warriors and have them swing that around.

The system sounds similar to the series' previous weapon switching mechanic, although it doesn't seem like you'll be able to actually swap weapons in and out during battle this time around. Still, everyone likes a bit of variety, right?

That said, we're not sure what the point of this is other than to give players a bit more freedom in a game that's supposedly stuffed with "clone" characters. The drawback here is that each warrior has a 'favourite' weapon type that they're more proficient with, allowing them to pull off more powerful combos and various special moves. With that in mind, we don't really know why you'd equip characters with something that they're not familiar with -- it's just going to result in less intricate gameplay.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is due out in February next year on PlayStation 4. It's shifting to an open world formula and by most accounts looks pretty good, but there's been some controversy over "clone" characters -- characters who share the same set of attacks with others.
